The Capital Hotel in Little Rock, Arkansas

With palatial accommodations steeped in Southern tradition, the Capital Hotel has earned its renown as "the front porch of Little Rock." Its grand opening in 1870 was indeed grand, with the first electric light fixture installed in a hotel in the South and an elevator massive enough to carry a horse. Since then, this Arkansas institution, a Preferred Boutique property, part of the Preferred Hotel Group, has served as both a welcome respite with luxurious rooms and delectable cuisine and a doorway to the illustrious historic monuments and dynamic contemporary culture of the region for business and leisure travelers alike. Ninety-four lavish rooms, including 15 semi-suites and four suites, envelope guests with designer linens, free Wi-Fi and, from most windows, expansive views of downtown Little Rock. Dine on-site in the elegant Ashley's restaurant or socialize with the city's movers and shakers at the Capital Bar and Grill. Both feature Chef Lee Richardson's "New Americana Cuisine," menus handcrafted from local and seasonal ingredients with cutting-edge techniques.

Just steps from key business venues, including the Statehouse Convention Center, and vital local landmarks, such as the Clinton Library, the Arkansas Arts Center and the Historic Arkansas Museum, The Capital is a hub for visitors seeking the ultimate Little Rock experience. Posh boutiques and eclectic eateries can be found just outside the door, and River Market, the city's vibrant entertainment destination, is a pleasant walk down Markham Street. Visit the Downtown Fitness Center right across the street from The Capital for a rejuvenating workout—admission is complimentary to hotel patrons. Active guests will also find plenty of adventure in the outdoors, from golf and tennis to hiking, fishing, hunting and kayaking - the concierge at The Capital will be happy to arrange half- to full-day excursions. Whether business or pleasure brings you to the city, the "Grand Dame" of downtown Little Rock is a "capital" headquarters for your stay.

You cannot go wrong staying at The Capital Hotel. Conveniently located walking distance to many Little Rock restaurants and attractions. The staff is superb from the moment you pull up to the curb until your final departure.

Service is great, friendly and helpful. Small touches add to the experience from the homemade toffee on the pillow to the lemonade on hot days, not to mention the car service! Most of the rooms are the same although they do have large and I mean large suites.

This place is fancy in every corner! Very nice quick stay on our spring break road trip. Two very nice resturants in the lobby area. There are a lot of really nice touches that make the stay well worth it. Local spring water in the room, sparkling and still. House spiced pecan in the room for a nice snack. Turn down service with bottled water and chocolate covered toffee with pecans. Coffee bar with locally roasted coffee. Full breakfast included. Make sure to get the very good morning to you package and enjoy all of these amenities!

We just returned from three days at the Capital Hotel. What an absolute treat! Having never been to Little Rock, I did not know what to expect. This hotel exceeded my expectations at every level. I would return to Little Rock just to stay here! We had a Junior Suite Room, with high ceilings, heavenly beds, and a deep soaking tub. Everyone at the hotel (concierge, drivers, front desk, restaurant staff) was so incredibly friendly. Since we were in town for a wedding, we did not have the opportunity to dine in either of the restaurants (only drinks and appetizers), but both places had excellent menus and comfortable decor. It is also a perfect location for walking with lots of nearby attractions, restaurants, and bars. Stay here and you will not be disappointed! One of the top five hotels in my book now!

This is a hotel in Line with The Hay Adams in DC or the Sherry Netherland in NYC. It is not as large, but it is truly grand. From the pre-arrival (the concierge booked us an excellent in room massage therapist a day before we came) to the arrival to the rooms, the staircase but mostly The People. It is them who make this an exceptional hotel. Attentive to every detail, especially on a very busy Marathon weekend. We did not expect this level of service in LR (shame on us!) and will be back, for sure.
