Honestly I'm a little sad to write this review. Stayed at the hotel for a night. Great hotel staff (actually brilliant) but restaurant staff were far less helpful. We had a big celebratory supper where while the service was a 3 out of 5, the food itself was a strong 4 or even a 5. We went to the bar afterwards and the service was again a 3, but the product a strong 4. The room was nice but had some drain smells from the bathroom, the bed was very hard and the curtains didn't keep out the light. Given the price we expected better but still a 4 for quality and a 3 for value. The real disaster was the breakfast. It was straight out of faulty towers. Staff were over worked, under trained, rude and inefficient. The guy next to me had 3 omelettes before they got his ingredients right. We had to ask 3 times for our table to be laid, 4 times for tap water, twice for the menu and had a 20 minute wait until we were offered a drink. Unbelievably when I gently called out to the waitress after a 20 minute wait I was accused of shouting. I immediately asked for the manager to calmly complain. He got our drinks and 20 mins later took my order, which to my astonishment was an omelette which given the joke of our neighbouring tables 3 failed attempts they managed to leave one of the 3 ingredients out of mine too. Ordered a English breakfast too which was super disappointing as largely microwaved/or dry. Genuinely I've had better food in a student cafeteria. To be fair others at the table had cold options which were very nice and the croissant I finally settled for was actually first class. The truth is the breakfast manager was very nice but totally incompetent and the whole place was a shambles. A real shame as the reception staff were first class. A nice night, but I will always remember this place for the worst service I've had in over a decade.

Returned to the Blakes after 1 year. It was very good in 2016, it was even better this trip. Fantastic service, always anticipate guest needs and the team has excellent knowledge of theatre, restaurants, etc. It is an excellent sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of London. Highly recommended.

As a long time client of Blakes I can say without reservation that this is the perfect home away from home. The staff is wonderfully attentive, friendly and professional. Blakes is a rare gem and as a frequent traveler all over the world I am the happiest to return to the hotel and to our "London Family".

5th stay at Blakes. Great service from the team. Beautifully designed boutique hotel and a great location tucked away from the main touristy areas in London. Some of the rooms don't have full length mirrors but I requested for one to be placed in the room. If you prefer a lot of natural light in your room, request for one facing Roland Gardens.

We finally chose Blakes after looking at plenty of other boutique hotels in Kensington and Chelsea. It was our choice because of its unique décor and we got a great deal for a signature suite which we just loved more and more each day - even climbing up onto the super high bed became a source of fun for my petite wife! However I can think of plenty of acquaintances who would not have felt the same way - not for the boringly perfectionist looking for cookie cutter predictability. There was some "deferred" maintenance and maybe a refresh could be on the cards but these were small things. Stayed in The Cardinal Suite August 2017 The bathroom had everything we needed with luxurious towels - even more lux than those in the Basel institution we stayed at for a few days - and a shower that had the splashing cave quality that I just love. The breakfasts were the only meals we had and were excellent for quality, service and the ambience of the dining room. Check in/out was seamless and the door staff helpful and discrete. Would love to stay again and try a different suite.
