The Capital Hotel in London, England

The Capital Hotel, with its elegant appointments and reputation for hosting the Royal Family, is a delightful place to find yourself while in London. With a long list of accolades, including being touted among the "Best Hotels in the World" by Travel + Leisure, The Capital Hotel's envious Knightsbridge location cannot be beat. Beneath its lavish roof are just 49 rooms including a handful of suites adorned in fabrics created at the hands of Ralph Lauren and Nina Campbell, with antique furnishings thoughtfully placed. The marble baths are magnificent with invigorating showers and ample-sized tubs.

The Michelin-starred Capital Restaurant offers a selection of contemporary French cuisine coupled with a sumptuous wine list. Sign up for the hotel's occasional master class, - an enrichment lesson that includes lunch, wine tasting and a culinary lesson with the chef. And what would a trip to London be without taking tea? The hotel's lovely Sitting Room offers a proper afternoon tea with all the accouterments. Step across the hotel threshold and into the center of Knightsbridge, home to Harrods and Harvey Nichols, whose food halls are filled with people and delights. Take a stroll along the River Thames or go around aboard the London Eye, the fabulous ferris wheel right on the river's edge. For our most recent visit to London, we decided to "push the boat out" and stay at the luxury level "Capital Hotel", and we were delighted we did so : it's a wonderful Hotel, with truly lovely people who looked-after us very well. "The Capital" is well-located on Basil Street, just around the corner from Knightsbridge Tube Station (and, of course, that stunning emporium, "Harrods"). It's quite a small Hotel, but we found it to be more than comfortable. We were extremely well-received by a friendly, personable young Receptionist (Becky), who set an encouragingly positive tone for our stay - we were booked for a week, taking-in TWO Football matches at "Emirates", visiting some major "Attractions", doing some Shopping, and just relaxing a bit. Our Bedroom (on the third Floor) was, as we expected, very comfortable, with most of the facilities we would expect in an establishment at this level - perhaps it would have been better if Tea/Coffee-making equipment was provided, as standard. If this Hotel has a weakness (and, it must be said, they are few), it's the Breakfast "offering" : the food range (both cold & cooked) is reasonable on most mornings (the content of the Fruit Salad disappoints, at times, & eggs may get over-cooked), but the "event" is frequently very disorganised, and, at times, verges on being chaotic, for a series of reasons. Fair enough, seating is limited, but Tables are not cleared promptly, attention by staff members to individual guests is unacceptably intermittent (eye-contact is generally avoided), Orders for particular items can appear to have been "forgotten", and, however polite you wish to be (and we always try to be patient), our experience was that you do need to be a little bit "pushy" at Breakfast-time - let's just say, that if we had come here for just one "Bed & Breakfast", we would have gone away pretty dissatisfied! But overall, we actually went away from "The Capital Hotel" with a warm glow : aside from the aforementioned Becky (+ her colleagues on Reception), we would particularly commend the attentive Concierge & Porter staff, Natalia (Dining-Room) who did her absolute best, in difficult circumstances, at Breakfast-time, Cesar, the attentive Manager with responsibility for the Bar & other areas, and, our absolute "Star", Lorena S (Executive Manager, with responsibility for "Guest Welcome"), who was not just attentive, responsive to even half-expressed needs, totally effective + absolutely charming - muchisimas gracias, Lorena! During our enjoyable stay, we dined at "Outlaw's" restaurant, and will review this experience separately. We hope to return to "The Capital Hotel" in the not too distant future : in the meantime, we say a sincere "Thank-you" to the many staff who looked after us so well.

My second visit. This hotel cannot be beaten for location and proximity to public transport. Breakfast is excellent. The intimate bar also serves great food. My room was warm, clean and comfortable with the addition of coffee making facilities and an extra blanket. Checking in is smooth and efficient and I found all staff to be very helpful.

Great location in Knightsbridge, but disappointing amenities. Also, while staff were generally attentive, some of the advice offered by staff was incorrect. Frankly, did not meet expectations and thus hard to recommend to others, unless one is determined to stay in close proximity to Harrod's.

Not only is this hotel centrally located, walking distance to all the major sites, and, the customer service is excellent. The staff aims to please! The rooms are well appointed, clean and the beds are comfy. One of the highlights is there is FREE use of a mobile phone that can be used for navigating around town and placing phone calls to several specified countries, the USA being one. Great for personal and business travel. I highly recommend The Capital on Basil St.

This hotel is a small luxury hotel therefore enables staff to remember your room number so front of house have your key ready. The room was the cleanest room we have stayed in London housekeeping was excellent a fresh rose in our room was a very nice touch nothing was to much trouble. Concierge brought our case to our room and explained the air conditioning showing us everything in the room and what numbers to dial for reception, concierge ect . We have stayed in many 4 and 5 star hotels in London and this is by far the best the other hotels I would not put on tripadvisor
