Dukes Hotel in London, England

Tucked into a tiny alleyway off St. James' Place, Dukes Hotel is quintessential Britain – it dates from 1908, but the interior is modern and the atmosphere is convivial. Impressive oil paintings and dark antique furniture preside alongside brightly upholstered settees, and beds are renowned for being incredibly comfortable. You’ll want to down one of the martinis at Dukes Bar, said to be the inspiration behind James Bond's request for "shaken, not stirred."

Ask the doorman to direct you to the secret entrance of Green Park. Wander amid magical greenery and unpack a picnic basket of quiche and summery greens. Return for Gin and Tonic Afternoon Tea in the parlour, an affair that deliciously fuses two British traditions. Top off the evening meal with a Cuban cigar and glass of cognac in the secluded garden lounge.

After visiting Buckingham Palace we went to Dukes for afternoon tea. A torrential downpour left us arriving drenched at the hotel, so it was lovely to sit and relax and enjoy our champagne afternoon tea. Very friendly polite staff and a very pleasant way to round off a lovely day in London

I stayed here recently and the location is absolutely fantastic. The hotel itself has that lovely traditional British feel, yet is fully up to date with modern hotel facilities. We did have a problem with the room booking, but it was sorted out in minutes. Mistakes happen, but it how they are dealt with is what matters, so 10/10 for the hotel here. If you are looking for an excellent hotel in a perfect location, the Dukes is right up there.

Impeccable service - professional, knowledgeable, courteous and above all friendly. A cosy, classy bar. And above all the definitive dry martini. Simple, but as good as it gets, delivered with a nice bit of theatre. Yes, they're Ā£19, but there's a good reason why they only serve a maximum of two per person. Should be on everyone's bucket list.

Hotel has been recently renovated, with the latest amenities yet keeping its old world feel. Highly trained staff, redecorated bistro, and a wonderful bar where people congregate after hours. Location AAA.

Unfortunately my experience with Dukes Hotel was extremely disappointing. I expected the hotel to be above and beyond in terms of service but unfortunately experienced the opposite. It started with the Hotel organized airport pick up. Nobody was waiting despite written confirmation from the hotel. After waiting for 20 min the driver finally called to say he was on his way. In the meantime I tried to contact the Hotel Concierge to sort things out but nobody picked up. Arrival at the hotel is fine. Unfortunately the popularity of the hotels martini bar (well deserved) means the place is overflowing with bon guests. The physically small hotel lobby becomes very packed with outside visitors waiting on a table. The rooms are very comfortable and elegant. The bed is comfortable and the bed linen fine. Room service quality is also good. However again, it takes the phone ringing for ages until somebody picks up to take your order. All in all, the property has all the potential to be a great English hotel. However, above all, perfect service is the hallmark of great English hotels and that is lacking here.
