Dukes Hotel in London, England

Tucked into a tiny alleyway off St. James' Place, Dukes Hotel is quintessential Britain – it dates from 1908, but the interior is modern and the atmosphere is convivial. Impressive oil paintings and dark antique furniture preside alongside brightly upholstered settees, and beds are renowned for being incredibly comfortable. You’ll want to down one of the martinis at Dukes Bar, said to be the inspiration behind James Bond's request for "shaken, not stirred."

Ask the doorman to direct you to the secret entrance of Green Park. Wander amid magical greenery and unpack a picnic basket of quiche and summery greens. Return for Gin and Tonic Afternoon Tea in the parlour, an affair that deliciously fuses two British traditions. Top off the evening meal with a Cuban cigar and glass of cognac in the secluded garden lounge.

Dukes Hotel, Mayfair sits in a superb location and is impressive as you arrive. The rooms are adequate- nicely presented but rather small (there was insufficient room to put up the luggage rack). The bathroom was a little tired. There was good attention to detail with bath robes etc. We only stayed one night and didn't eat there. The breakfast however was a disappointment in terms of service. Obviously the 4 us ordered breakfast together. My husband ordered the muesli which was delivered at the same time as his cooked breakfast which meant that the cooked breakfast was cold when he got to eat it. The other 3 of us had juices etc delivered before cooked breakfast 0 they clearly forgot about the muesli and made no apology. A nice break in lovely surroundings but overall disappointing.

We are currently staying at the Dukes Hotel and we are rather disappointed. We are avid travelers and we are pretty lenient when it comes to the places we stay especially in a city like London. However, we booked this hotel based on the reviews and ratings. This place doesn't add up. It's a small boutique hotel in a great part of London, but it's definitely not a 5 star hotel. The hotel is due for a major overhaul. The rooms are small even considering it is in the heart of London. The elevator is not functional and the linens were stained. The furnishings, finishes have the feel of a 3 star hotel. The mattress is awful... just uncomfortable. The fact that we booked the hotel far in advance only to find out there is no cancellation immediately after it was booked feels more like a trap.

This was the first time my colleague and I have had afternoon tea as a late lunch break. We have eaten and attended events at Dukes a number of times and never been disappointed in fact, we love this hotel. It has friendly, inviting staff and a feeling of home the second you walk through the door. We started with a glass of champagne and the classic 3 tiers of sandwiches, scones and cakes arrived at the table. The food was excellent! The scones were warm with ample cream and jam. The cakes were amazing too! We couldn't manage it all but they were kind enough to let us take the leftovers back to the office - not all hotels allow this. Super service, as usual. Thank you Dukes, we will be back soon.

This was the first time in a few years that we had stayed here although the cocktail bar remains a favourite haunt. The hotel has undergone a discreet refurbishment over the last few years and has a slightly more modern feel without in any way detracting from its' charm and history. Our room, which was on the 5th floor, was a great deal more spacious than some I have stayed in previously and the bed was very comfortable. The information in the room said that water, crisps and chocolate were complimentary which is always a nice touch. It would have been even nicer if the fridge had not been empty! However a call to reception remedied this promptly. We met friends in the bar for a drink before going out for dinner and my only complaint would be that despite the fact that the bar was not overly busy when we arrived I waited 25 minutes for a Bellini. Continental breakfast in our room the next morning was good. Orange juice freshly squeezed and the croissants warm and tasty. The location sets this hotel apart from many others in central London and I look forward to trying the dining room when it re opens.

I have stayed at this hotel 3 nights with my partner. It was my treat from him. When we arrived check in was very fast and reception staff superb specially Yolanta with take all the way to my room and explain all details about my stay. I was very pleased for all tips about my stay and things to do. Room was very clean and spacious I stayed at superior room with have outstanding balcony , huge bath and all I need. I really like bar and selection of martinis plus all cocktails. Location was very convenient and close to the tube station. Hotel is centrally located and with easy access to city centre specially Picadilly Circus is just 2 stops away. I really enjoy my stay and definiently will be back soon and reccomend to my friends.
