Dukes Hotel in London, England

Tucked into a tiny alleyway off St. James' Place, Dukes Hotel is quintessential Britain – it dates from 1908, but the interior is modern and the atmosphere is convivial. Impressive oil paintings and dark antique furniture preside alongside brightly upholstered settees, and beds are renowned for being incredibly comfortable. You’ll want to down one of the martinis at Dukes Bar, said to be the inspiration behind James Bond's request for "shaken, not stirred."

Ask the doorman to direct you to the secret entrance of Green Park. Wander amid magical greenery and unpack a picnic basket of quiche and summery greens. Return for Gin and Tonic Afternoon Tea in the parlour, an affair that deliciously fuses two British traditions. Top off the evening meal with a Cuban cigar and glass of cognac in the secluded garden lounge.

I travel to London once a year, and had always wanted to stay at Dukes. Our recent stay was wonderful. The location is perfect! My bestie and I took advantage of beautiful weather and had the picnic in Green Park, with a Dukes butler. It was a very special treat! Breakfast at GBR was terrific, as was afternoon tea. We enjoyed a drink in the bar, and experienced as much as possible in a short stop-over. The staff were extremely friendly and cared about making sure our experience was top-notch. Cheers to Robert and all the team at Dukes!

I tried out the new GBR restaurant in Dukes hotel on Friday with 3 other friends. The new refurb of the restaurant is SO much better than it used to look and has a fresh, classic old school feel so it. I had the prawn cocktail for my starter and for my main I had the halibut. Both courses were really nice although I would have liked a few more prawns for the starter as I think I only had about 6. The staff were attentive, helpful and friendly. We went to GBR for my friends birthday and I had emailed the restaurant to let them know it was her birthday. They did a lovely little birthday gesture of little chocolates on a plate for her, wrote her name on the plate and sang Happy Birthday which ended our meal very nicely. Thank you to the team at GBR for a lovely evening. We will definitely be coming back back.

We were in London enroute to Canada and recently engaged, wanted to continue to celebrate our engagement. I've been to the hotel several times and have even stayed at the venue. Unfortunately, my fiance was wearing dress shorts which aren't acceptable in the bar therefore we were turned away. I appreciate the standards at this establishment but when it's 31 degrees and you've been trekking the streets all day, it was a bit of a surprise. It is to be expected of Mayfair so be warned that if you're in shorts, you won't be let in. It was disappointing and the martinis in the GBR restaurant were not up to scratch and are severely overpriced.

We were excited to stay at Duke's Hotel because we had always heard how charming it was. Our stay was a disappointment. When we checked in, the front desk seemed understaffed and disorganized. We were told that the room would be ready at 2:00 pm, and we waited in the lobby until almost 3:oo pm. No one ever showed us around or even told us where the restaurant, bar, or drawing room were. When we got to our room, it was adequate but could have used some refurbishment. We had paid extra to upgrade and were surprised at how plain and basic the room was compared to other London hotels in this price range.

My husband and I purchased a voucher to have High Tea at the Dukes Hotel and went on our recent trip to London. The room was lovely and quiet. DĂ©cor was very restful (loved the paint colour). Best of all was the beautiful presentation of the sandwiches and baked items on the 3 tier tray. The scones were the nicest I have ever eaten, sweet, melt in your mouth. So good, I had 2! We both thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I would definitely recommend this hotel for the High Tea.
