About the Hotel

Tucked into a tiny alleyway off St. James' Place, Dukes Hotel is quintessential Britain – it dates from 1908, but the interior is modern and the atmosphere is convivial. Impressive oil paintings and dark antique furniture preside alongside brightly upholstered settees, and beds are renowned for being incredibly comfortable. You’ll want to down one of the martinis at Dukes Bar, said to be the inspiration behind James Bond's request for "shaken, not stirred."

Reviews for Dukes Hotel

A germ in London

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

Friendly staff, with great customer service, as you would expect on this side of London. The hotel decor is fit for the area of Westminster The room was a good size, the bathroom was spacious and the bed so comfortable. The hotel is tucked away from the busy noisy Mayfair so you should have a good night sleep

Disappointing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I want to give a score of 3.5 but that’s not possible. A warm and friendly welcome from reception which was avery good start and I was allocated a luxury room, 218 , if I recall correctly. A very pleasant room with a good sized bathroom. Hotels should be all about sleep quality and this was not the case given the room was not double glazed and close to St James Street with traffic noise all night. I had to switch off the air con as that was so noisy it almost drowned out the traffic ! Unfortunately I had no ear plugs so stuffed toilet paper in my ears! The mattress was too hard for my liking, not a real complaint because that’s a personal matter of opinion . However was disappointing ,my omelette was so pale it was almost white , rubbery and tasteless. Staff were very apologetic on leaving . Oh and yes it’s frustrating being a guest not to be able to drink in the bar at 6pm - you have to book. I did manage to get in and have a glass before bedtime at 10.30pm !

100% British feeling

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Why not 5? The rooms are a little small, but that should take nothing away from the quality of the staff, service and ambiance. We ate breakfast and evening dinner in the restaurant. The bar was shut when we were there but the staff were happy to guide to external bars or the restaurant bar. I had one small issue which the hotel dealt with quickly and without fuss. This is all you can ask . My guess is things do not go wrong often here given the overall quality you can feel

007 or bust hotel-quintessential upper crust British hotel experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

What can I say, quintessential upper crust British hotel experience. Secluded quiet location, you feel like your entering a secluded hide away. Real special, I have been a patron for over 30 years. And while I sometimes choke on the nightly price, once there it seems worth it. Book the bar in advance and immerse your self in a place Ian Fleming consumed Martinis.

A fabulous stay at Dukes Hotel!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We stayed at Dukes to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary; what a great choice! The staff were wonderfully attentive, warm and professional. We had complimentary treats in our room - a generous touch. The hotel is beautifully clean, has lovely traditional decor and elegant bedrooms. It has a friendly atmosphere and is conveniently located in the heart of Mayfair. The Dukes Bar is a must with its famous martinis! A heartfelt thank you to all the hotel staff who made our stay so memorable and enjoyable!
