I had stayed here in late December, which was very nice due to the festive decorations and again in January. Both times I had an Executive Room, but on the second occasion the room had been updated in terms of decor. Gone were the excellent bedside drawers, which are great for storing clothes, etc. Instead somebody has decided to 'modernise' them with solid items which you can't put anything into, save for a few items in the open beside the bed. Why would they do that? It reminded me of the inferior Claridges whose room was a triumph of style over practicality. I looked all over for somewhere to store my clothes and all I could see was the shelf on top of the Coat Closet in the lobby. Unless I have overlooked the obvious this is a bit hopeless if you are staying more than one night. I suppose some 'genius' is behind it, but it didn't really need changed. The carpets in and around the lift could do with a spruce up, but it remains my favourite hotel in London.
