Great Family Trip

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 11 hours ago

We have just come back from a wonderful break at the Park Plaza Riverbank. We were a family group consisting of 3 children (3,8 and 12) and 2 adults. We were in a family suite on floor 17 and the views and room were spectacular. We were very pleased with the amenities on arrival- lovely ESPA toiletries, plenty of fresh towels for our whole group, toiletry accessories and refreshments- which my son particularly liked, especially the chocolate almonds! The room was very modern and clean and had everything we needed for our stay. Compared to other places we enquired about, Park Plaza Riverbank was good value for money for our family of 5. I think I should also comment on the welcome we received at reception- we checked in at the children’s check-in desk where the receptionist was very kind and informative and made the children feel special with the welcome bags provided. All the staff we met during our stay were lovely and I would like to thank them for making our stay memorable. As we stayed during half term there were lots of activities for the children to do which is something that really stood out during our stay- we have stayed in lots of hotels but very few have been so well catered for children. The play/games area was a bit hit with lots of variety to keep the children entertained despite their big age gap- our 3 year old loved the dolls house, our 8 year old loved the Xbox and VR and our 12 year old loved the 360 stage and interactive game table. Although the pool is quite small, the booking system was a good idea so it didn’t get too crowded- and we were advised to book early to avoid disappointment, which was welcomed advice. One issue is the size of the changing rooms, which are quite small especially when the pool session is busy. We are at the Chino Latino restaurant for dinner and the food was delicious! However this was the only time we had an issue during our stay- the service at the restaurant was a little slow and our food came out way before the children’s and our side dishes, so by the time my rice arrived, my beef rib was cold and the children were grumpy because they were hungry and had an extra long wait! But apart from that it was a lovely meal, with great atmosphere and lovely views of the river. The location of the hotel is perfect, especially as there is a great walkway all the way down to the London Eye and nearby attractions. The hotel was also really helpful in booking us a cab into Drury Lane to watch a musical in the evening. There was nothing we had to worry about during our stay an we all had a wonderful time! We cannot wait to go back.

Very good hotel and would recommend - good for food allergy sufferers

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 13 hours ago

We booked a room with a kitchenette, separate bedroom and sofa bed in the living/kitchen area for our family (2 adults and 13 year old). The kitchenette was great - it had a 2 ring hob, microwave, fridge, washing machine and dryer, coffee machine with pods and kettle and all the necessary plates/cups/cutlery etc. I struggled to find this level of detail (what the kitchenette contained) when booking the room online and think the website should be more informative as it was superb for us as our son had a food allergy and we could prep sandwiches for him. We used the swimming pool which was very small and bookable only and it was clean and pleasant. It was half term so very busy and we had to queue both days for breakfast which was annoying and a bit hectic but all the staff we came across were excellent and customer focussed. My son was able to eat at breakfast despite his severe food allergy (always find these reviews that mention these things helpful when searching!) and they prepared fresh food from the kitchen quickly. It was a very cold week in London and our room was exceptionally cold. The air con was too noisy to sleep when switched on so this was a shame. Excellent location for walking to London Eye/Dungeons/Big Ben and the Shard even (we enjoyed this longer walk). Would definitely recommend this hotel. Clean and confortable with excellent and consistent customer service.

Not a great experience, awful room

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 18 hours ago

We booked two Executive double Room-river view rooms for 2 nights and paid over £200 for the rooms for each day. One was for our son so they put both together. One of the rooms was nice and big and what I expected, but there was no bathroom door which I thought was strange! The other room was smaller and smelt damp and was very run down with marks and stains all over, including the bathroom floor, it was dusty and not very clean. It felt like a room that wasn’t used. There was a run down chair by the window and view was ok but nothing great. Please see photos. The only good thing was this room did have a bathroom door. I decided not to say anything because it would have been a hassle to move us both, so just left it. When we got back from a lovely family meal myself and my partner went to the bar as it was still only 10:30ish. There were some lovely tables by the window but I was asked to move straight away not in a very nice manner, the lady said it was something to do with the cleaning chemicals that they used to clean down the tables with. I haven’t heard anything like that in my life! The next day we went out for the day and when I came back our son’s room was cleaned but ours wasn’t which I thought was odd as they were together. I really wanted fresh towels so I could have a shower as we were going out again. I went down to reception and asked if someone could clean our room and we will sit in the bar and have a coffee. I explained I really needed fresh towels as we were heading out in a couple of hours. We sat and had a coffee for around an hour and half, went back upstairs and room still had not been cleaned. I just used the towels from the morning and we went out. When we got back the room had finally been cleaned. My partner and I don’t tend to get away a lot and I was really looking forward to staying in what I thought was a 4 star hotel and I stayed at Park plaza’s before and they have been lovely hotels. It just spoilt my experience of staying in a hotel.
