Hotel was excellent

The Park Plaza Riverbank was an excellant hotel. The room was quite lnice and very comfortable. The staff was great and the location was very convenient to some nice tourist attractions. The breakfast buffet was another benefit at staying at this hotel. The food was both plentiful and delicious.

Very disappointing customer service on our honeymoon

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

We visited this hotel in April 2022 and we had a fantastic time, so we thought this would be the ideal hotel to start our honeymoon……………our view has changed we won’t be returning. We arrived on Monday morning and left our bags so we could go straight out and begin our honeymoon, when we checked in we noticed the room was quite warm so we put the Aircon on expecting the room to cool, it didn’t!!! Next morning I thought I’d ask them if it could be looked at as we headed out for the day, we returned quite late around 10pm and noticed it was no better so I called guest services and asked if it had been looked at, the lady said she didn’t know but would send someone straight up. After 45mins still no one showed so I went down to reception to ask again, the concierge went onto the system to look again and said he could see it was reported at 10, he was then joined by a colleague that wanted to ask a question so he decided he’d leave me standing while sorting his questions and leave me standing twiddling my thumbs. Once he’d had his conversation he returned his attention to me and said that an engineer should be up in five minutes. I returned to my wife, now laying down tired and hot, I said someone would be up shortly………15 minutes later when nobody arrived I decided I’d go back to reception and ask to talk to the manager, he made a call and got the engineer to the room, stating if it could not be sorted he would move us. Upon returning to the room the engineer had a temperature probe stuck in the vent measuring the temperature, he then informed me that it was ok in quite a rude fashion, he said leave it ten minutes and it should start to cool the room, at which point I said well it’s now been on over an hour and still there is no difference. I then returned to reception to talk again with the manager, he spoke to the engineer and was informed that the Aircon was working, I then asked the manager if he would accompany me up to the room to get his opinion. He replied that he didn’t need to come with me as it was working, then in quite a rude fashion said he would move me if I wished but the other rooms would be the same, realising I was flogging a dead horse I decided I’d had enough and went to bed. I stay in hotels regularly as I work away, I know what Aircon should feel like on its coldest setting and having stayed at this very hotel the year before I know that the room wasn’t as it should have been. I believe the mark of a good hotel is its ability to deal with customer complaints in a polite and efficient manner, neither of which were they capable of on this occasion. We wouldn’t let this experience ruin our honeymoon but rather than the hotel adding to our honeymoon memories it was just a place to stay and I’ll be booking elsewhere that values good customer service in future!!!!!
