A wonderful afternoon tea

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

A wonderful afternoon tea experience at The Ritz! My wife and I visited to celebrate her birthday, and it was a lovely way to mark the occasion. The elegant surroundings and beautiful atmosphere made it feel truly special. A memorable afternoon together and a place we would be delighted to visit again. Highly recommended!

What a disappointment, the hotel is beautiful, staff amazing but the quality of sandwiches were very basic. The variety of cakes was lacking in imagination, scones were tasteless, all in all for money we spent was not the experience I was expecting.

Minimum spend

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

A friend and I were at an exhibition in London and walked back to the tube via Green Park. Spontaneously I asked whether she fancied a cocktail in the Ritz. Unsurprisingly she said yes so off we went. We were directed to the newly opened Secret Garden and relocated Rivoli Bar. We decided to sit inside - where incidentally there was plenty of room - and ordered our cocktails. They were delivered along with some much reduced nibbles since our last visit. We sat and enjoyed them and had a very nice and relaxing time. I then requested the bill as we were returning home to meet our husbands for dinner and was told that our bill didn’t meet the minimum spend requirement of £100. It was £57. I explained that nobody had told us that there was a minimum spend only to be informed that we definitely had been told!! My friend backed me up but the lady who was talking to us refused to accept it. I considered having another two drinks to reach the minimum spend but time was marching and I resented being treated so badly so I asked to see a manager. On that I was presented by the waiter with my bill without the minimum spend charge. I paid and we left. I was very disappointed with the whole experience and it almost spoiled our afternoon. I was so angry that I couldn’t bring myself to write a review. However in the time since this happened I have thought about it again and being treated in such a way by a hotel with such a good reputation has really rankled so I am now writing this review. I have never come across a minimum spend being enforced elsewhere so The Ritz should make sure that this policy is made obvious in as many ways as possible including on the tables and in the cocktail and food menus. I was very upset and disappointed and will be going elsewhere for my cocktails in future.

Terrible service - not a 5 star establishment

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

My brothers and I had planned to take my parents for their 70th and 80th birthday celebrations to the Ritz London on 3rd October 2026. A special celebration birthday cake was arranged along with purchasing a wonderful Ritz teddy bear to give to them as an ever lasting memory of the occasion. This should have been a day to celebrate with the people who matter the most in the most talked about London hotel, however this was not to be the case. Just last week I had a call from the Ritzs expressing their condolences as they where now unable to accommodate our booking, and due to other commitments planned for the day, they where unable to accommodate another time for that day. As anyone would know when booking up such establishments the minimum time is 3 months, so to find a suitable alternative to accommodate in under one month would just be impossible, which has proven to be the case. The Ritz could and would not see the extent of the detriment this has caused to my family and the occasion, the only thing they would do to acknowledge the double booking their end was “4 glasses of champagne, the next time we booked with them”. Given the date and reason for the occasion this doesn’t help the situation that the day has now been ruined, and it’s a day that wouldn’t return. The Ritz have basically washed their hands with the fact they have made the mistake due to now having a “private function” on, and have left me and my family high and dry, not even refunding me for the Teddy bear or even issuing a birthday cake as any form of compensation. This is my second attempt to enjoy the Ritz and restore the faith in it being the most famous hotel in the world, however for me it’s only famous for 1 reason now, being the “worst hotel in the world” and if anyone is planning on going there I would urge you to not, Claridges is far superior then this hotel in every way!
