About the Hotel

You might still spot politicians enjoying a reprieve from Parliament at The Royal Horseguards. It began life as The National Liberal Club in 1884 and was commandeered by the Ministry of Defense during both world wars to headquarter the M15 and M16, Britain's secret intelligence organizations. After undergoing a full renovation in 2008, sparkling chandeliers and contemporary accents join the oil paintings and rich red and gold furnishings that still retain the air of Westminster.

Reviews for The Royal Horseguards

Fantastic location and service, but the hotel urgently needs refurbishment

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 hours ago

The Royal Horseguards has always been a lovely hotel with a fantastic location and truly excellent service from the staff. The atmosphere and location make it a place you genuinely want to return to. Unfortunately, it must also be said that the hotel appears very worn in several areas and lacks proper maintenance. It is clear that the facilities have not been properly cared for over a longer period of time. The restaurant in particular felt rather depressing, with large stains on the ceiling that certainly do not contribute to a pleasant dining experience. I was also promised a king size bed, but the room only had a queen size bed. In addition, the TV in the room was unstable and repeatedly turned itself on and off during my stay, which was frustrating. That is a shame, because the hotel still has plenty of charm and potential. If you improve the maintenance and bring the standard back to the level the hotel’s history and location deserve, I would be very happy to return. Until then, however, I will unfortunately choose another hotel on my next visit to London.

The Royal Horse Guards Hotel

What a fantastic hotel, well placed to move around London. An excellent room with a view over the embankment and the London eye. The breakfast spread was well presented with plenty of choice. The bed was a king size and very comfortable so an excellent sleep was had. I can't wait to visit this hotel again for our next wedding anniversary.

Excellent location with friendly professional staff

Stayed here for our wedding anniversary and received a bottle of bubbly in our room. Booked a room on 7th floor with river views, worth doing the £80 upgrade if you get the chance. Thought breakfast too expensive for what it was. Reception staff well trained and professional. Bar area good for a cocktail. Bedroom a bit dated and needed an update. Bathroom clean and modern with good towels. Would go back.

A Hotel With History!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

I have always wanted to stay at The Royal Horseguards so for a very special occasion, we booked our trip. It is expensive but we were treating ourselves! Fabulous welcome from the team on the door and reception and the hotel lobby has a real wow factor with incredible flowers and comfortable seating. We were given a room which had a wall just a couple of feet from the window so there was absolutely no natural light in the room at all! A broom cupboard! Luckily when I went to reception, it was possible to change and we were given 218 overlooking the park. There is absolutely no wow factor to this room at all sadly! It was tired with marks from drinking glasses on the furniture and a bed with a mind of it’s own that moves away from the headboard when you sit in bed to read, or sit on it to put on your shoes. The vent for the air con was very dusty too and needs a jolly good clean, and marks on the walls which could all be cleaned off with a bit of attention. I am in the business and it’s always the detail that matters! So overall, our stay was not quite as we expected. London prices should mean top quality with the guest feeling that was amazing when they leave! Sorry to be a bit negative but that’s how we felt!

Great stay in a great hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

I had stayed for 2 nights on 29th and 30th in room no 604. The room was spacious and comfortable with good amenities. This is a nice hotel next to major tourist attractions, embankment station is 2 minutes walk from the hotel. The breakfast had a good spread with a lot of vegetarian food. The concierge was efficient with Mr Pervez being helpful, smiling and always greeting.
