The Royal Horseguards in London, England

You might still spot politicians enjoying a reprieve from Parliament at The Royal Horseguards. It began life as The National Liberal Club in 1884 and was commandeered by the Ministry of Defense during both world wars to headquarter the M15 and M16, Britain's secret intelligence organizations. After undergoing a full renovation in 2008, sparkling chandeliers and contemporary accents join the oil paintings and rich red and gold furnishings that still retain the air of Westminster.

Stride across manicured lawns to the banks of the River Thames and follow it south. Veer right to walk along St. James's Park. Stare down the stern guards outside Buckingham Palace and give the Queen a nod. Circle back to The Royal Horseguards for afternoon tea and apricot scones on the sunlit terrace. Raise a glass to Churchill at the bar named after him – he was one of The National Liberal Club’s most prominent members.

Very nice hotel in a great location. Rooms on the small side but nicely presented. Efficient staff, especially concierge who were helpful. Brilliant base for exploring London as it is opposite London Eye and 10 minute walk to Trafalgar Square.

This was my third visit to this lovely hotel. I wrote ahead saying that it was our anniversary and asking if we could have an informal tour of the historical side to the hotel as I have a real interest in this. On arrival in our lovely Garden view room there was a welcome surprise from staff with good wishes and lovely chocolates! Thanks to all as ever for the wonderful cocktails, cream teas and breakfasts. A special thank you to the Concierge team for going the extra mile and showing us round - you were great Rissi. Looking forward to coming back

When you combine a great location, large spotless room, terrific shower, unbeatable breakfast and attentive staff, the hotel is five-star. We were there for 10 nights and made easy excursions into the countryside.

Stayed here for one night whilst in London for a wedding. Our room was very big with a great shower and a very comfy bed. I would definitely stay at the Royal Horseguards again. It's great value for money compared with other hotels in the area.
