The Royal Horseguards in London, England
You might still spot politicians enjoying a reprieve from Parliament at The Royal Horseguards. It began life as The National Liberal Club in 1884 and was commandeered by the Ministry of Defense during both world wars to headquarter the M15 and M16, Britain's secret intelligence organizations. After undergoing a full renovation in 2008, sparkling chandeliers and contemporary accents join the oil paintings and rich red and gold furnishings that still retain the air of Westminster.
Stride across manicured lawns to the banks of the River Thames and follow it south. Veer right to walk along St. James's Park. Stare down the stern guards outside Buckingham Palace and give the Queen a nod. Circle back to The Royal Horseguards for afternoon tea and apricot scones on the sunlit terrace. Raise a glass to Churchill at the bar named after him – he was one of The National Liberal Club’s most prominent members.

Reviews for The Royal Horseguards
We booked for an early week family lunch and had a most enjoyable experience, the ambience in the restaurant was pleasurable and our serving staff gave great attention to detail. Our waitress heard that we were celebrating a birthday and an impromptu cake and candles appeared just before the dessert course, which was a nice touch.

We stayed for a Saturday night. We arrived early Saturday morning and the staff were all very attentive and accommodating and we left our bags in storage whilst we went Xmas shopping. We arrived back in the afternoon, our room was ready, and our bags were promptly brought to us. The room was a reasonable size with a great view of the river. We found the room to be draughty and cold, but the bathroom had underfloor heating which was lovely. That night on the way back to the hotel we stopped at the cocktail bar of a hotel just across the road. The bar was decorated in an Art Deco fashion, with mood lighting, a pianist and jazz singer. We had two cocktails there and after a fab experience we decided to stop at the Horseguards Bar, Equus for one further cocktail. In comparison, this bar had harsh lighting, poor furnishings, and only one member of staff, hence no table service. When the drinks arrived my cocktail was wrong and the presentation of the cocktail, although a similar price to the rival cocktails was appalling Breakfast the next morning was dreadful! As always, the staff are very polite and welcoming! It’s self service, which is fine, but I had to hunt for a piece of bacon which was properly cooked, the fried eggs were so rubbery they really were like joke rubber eggs, and the juice glasses were hot! I expected better! This hotel is a lovely building, in a great location, with, mostly, very helpful and attentive staff. On checkout the receptionist shouted out the total of my bill rather than discreetly offering me an invoice! It was a romantic weekend away, I don’t really want my partner knowing the cost, especially as we considered it poor value! If you want to truly be a 5 star hotel it’s the little things above which help to make the difference, and make a stay special. My partner thought it was more of a standard business hotel, if that’s your main market then that’s fine, but I wouldn’t recommend The Royal Horseguards for a ‘romantic break’ which is a shame, because I wanted our weekend to be special! I know where I’ll go next time!

We so enjoyed our stay, every single member of staff were amazing, in particular everyone who welcomed us and generally looked after us and also amazing service in the restaurant from Alexandra and Innya. Our dinner was delicious. Not only did we have a wonderful view, but were also given late checkout. Thanks to Daniel the engineer who tirelessly walked up to the 6th floor 3 times to help us solve the cold room challenge. Please pass on our thanks We will be back Caroline and Brian Rollings

Beautiful hotel fantastic location , worth the extra for river view room. Located close to Embankment tube station makes easy access to all parts of central London. Magical Christmas decorations and the river view ideal for New Year fireworks

We felt welcome and enjoyed our stay at the beautifully decorated hotel. The view over the Thames is wonderful and the hotel conveniently located in a very safe area. The only negative point were the windows that cant' be closed well enough so the cold wind came through.
