About the Hotel

The Rubens at the Palace is the closest you'll get to a sleepover with the Queen without a state visit invitation. The hotel is directly across from the royal residence on property that enjoys a colorful past – the Duke of Buckingham lived here in the 1600s, followed by an apothecary and a Court dressmaker. The Rubens, which was built in 1912, housed the Polish army during WWII and gave respite to exiled Charles de Gaulle. The hotel's decadent – and often equally colorful – rooms and suites are a comfortable home base in the epicenter of London.

On a positive note a fantastic location close to all of London’s attractions service was good enough but that’s where it ends. No gym, tiny rooms, even smaller bathroom & rough around the edges. Missing the little extras you’d expect. In my view not a 5 star hotel.

Fabulous Stay (Again)!

The Rubens at the Palace Hotel building has a long history. Previous uses included “dressmaker’s boutique, a pharmacy, an artificial flower shop, and…the home of the Aerated Bread Company…” Last restored in 2018, the historical charm of the building is blended with modern luxury. I last stayed here in September 2012.The luxury and excellent service at the hotel have not changed. I only stayed 2 nights. Night one I heard a knock “Do you wish turndown service?” Night two: Knock at the door “Is everything in the room to your satisfaction?” And all I could think of was “Excellent!” Returning to the hotel after some time walking around Westminster I was greeted: “Welcome back. How was your day?” Answer: “I was mugged at St. James Park (by a squirrel).

My third time staying at this hotel and they continue to impress. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and the location is absolutely perfect for your home base while visiting London. Lots of sites to see within a short walk, public transit nearby if you need to get a little further away, and loads of restaurant options nearby. The rooms are small compared to North American standards of course, but that's not surprising at all. Clean, well maintained. I literally can't fault this hotel on anything, it was a great stay. Highly recommend!

This was one of the best hotels that I have stayed at. This hotel was centrally located and the staff were very kind. It's two blocks from Buckingham Palace, two block from Victoria Station (buses, train and underground train, there is a difference). We needed separate and that was done promptly; spacious.

This is our 2nd visit to this lovely hotel a few steps away from Buckingham Palace. Exceptional check in meeting all our requests. Lovely room very well looked after by housekeeping. Breakfast was excellent and served to perfection. Afternoon tea was a very nice treat.

I just returned from an amazing 6 nights at The Rubens. My trip was for business and at the last minute, I had to bring my baby along. This worried me greatly, but thanks to the wonderful staff of the hotel, my week went off without a hitch. The staff couldn't have been any kinder, more helpful, or professional. From the moment we arrived, special attention was paid to the baby and any assistance I needed. There is no doubt that I will be returning to this hotel. It has won a special place in my heart.

Our package at the Rubens at the Palace let my mother and me live like a queen. From the flowers in the room, the beautiful suite, the daily high tea, the staff - everything was a deluxe vacation opportunity. My previous vacations to London pale in comparison to this experience.

I stayed at the hotel and found it to be delightful. It was a good, central location with comfortable, well-appointed rooms. The staff was outstanding, and the food was quite good. I would definitely stay there again!

I can't say enough about the amazing service at the hotel. Everyone was so friendly and helpful whenever we had questions or needed help. The concierge was wonderful and went out of his way to come check on us and see how our day our was turning out. It made us feel very welcome and almost like family! The room was very comfortable, the food in the bar was great, service was amazing. We'll stay here again!
