The Rubens at the Palace in London, England
The Rubens at the Palace is the closest you'll get to a sleepover with the Queen without a state visit invitation. The hotel is directly across from the royal residence on property that enjoys a colorful past – the Duke of Buckingham lived here in the 1600s, followed by an apothecary and a Court dressmaker. The Rubens, which was built in 1912, housed the Polish army during WWII and gave respite to exiled Charles de Gaulle. The hotel's decadent – and often equally colorful – rooms and suites are a comfortable home base in the epicenter of London.
Greet the day with a morning stroll across the gardens. Stop by the Queen's Gallery, which displays many of the best works from the Royal Family's personal collection. Roam Westminster, but be back in time for high tea – from the lounge you’ll see the Queen's stables and maybe even catch a glimpse of passing pageantry. As evening progresses, settle into an armchair by a crackling fire and savor a plate of grilled Dover sole with chive and butter sauce.

Reviews for The Rubens at the Palace
Dear Rubens staff We stayed at The Rubens 30th Aug-3rd Sept. It was our 25th wedding anniversary! The front desk was exceptional, arranged special treats for our room. Room was perfect with a view directly overlooking the the Mews. Air and heat worked well. Bed and bath were small but of a high quality. The bar was very traditional in the hotel with great ambiance and a superb wine list. The evenings had live music from a 3 piece band. The staff were the key. Tom, the concierge steered us every evening for dinner and all were a perfect match for our desires. (He really knows the area) Victor the doorman done an excellent job with information and certainly parking my car. All the staff in the BBar were super friendly and good food as well. We stayed at top hotels for two weeks and the Rubens really stood out. Great job.

Spent a night here on a business trip and enjoyed it having stayed here some years ago. The staff are friendly and efficient. The hotel is quite spectacular in its design and furnishings. The room was clean and well equipped, including air con, though very small. Breakfast was nice too. It's quite pricey though that's not surprising I suppose for central London.

Upon a recommendation from my stepmom, who is a travel agent, we stayed here for a week and I must say they exceeded all expectations. Lovely hotel, fantastic location - 3-4 min walk to Victoria Station and Buckingham Palace, 15-20 min walk to Westminster Abbey and Parliament. Can easily walk to Belgravia and Trafalgar Square. Staff was wonderful and the service was really, really good. Very nice restaurant with super breakfast. Next door is a really nice restaurant/bar called BBar which we thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommended from this reviewer.

Plusses - comfortable quiet rooms, live music one can still talk through and food. Minuses - service. No shortage of staff in the bar and restaurant but almost entirely devoid of organisation and any sense of priority. Pouring the wine 'properly' took priority over getting all the food ordered, to the table. Stayed here many times, this was the unhappiest by far.

We stayed at this hotel recently for several days on a trip to England. The location is excellent. It is 5 Min. to Buckingham Palace and Victoria Station. Their is an outdoor mall behind the hotel with a drugstore and restaurants as well as a Marks & Spencer. The Buckingham Palace store is just down the street. The public rooms of the hotel are well decorated and the restaurant is excellent. Our room was one of the better rooms we have had. The outstanding aspect of this hotel is the staff. They are first rate; some of the best staff we have encountered in any hotel and we travel a great deal. We would highly recommend this hotel.
