The Rubens at the Palace in London, England

The Rubens at the Palace is the closest you'll get to a sleepover with the Queen without a state visit invitation. The hotel is directly across from the royal residence on property that enjoys a colorful past – the Duke of Buckingham lived here in the 1600s, followed by an apothecary and a Court dressmaker. The Rubens, which was built in 1912, housed the Polish army during WWII and gave respite to exiled Charles de Gaulle. The hotel's decadent – and often equally colorful – rooms and suites are a comfortable home base in the epicenter of London.

Greet the day with a morning stroll across the gardens. Stop by the Queen's Gallery, which displays many of the best works from the Royal Family's personal collection. Roam Westminster, but be back in time for high tea – from the lounge you’ll see the Queen's stables and maybe even catch a glimpse of passing pageantry. As evening progresses, settle into an armchair by a crackling fire and savor a plate of grilled Dover sole with chive and butter sauce.

What a fantastic hotel to stay at a beautiful traditional hotel in a convenient location right alongside the Queen at Buckingham palace. I could see her sitting on the throne from our room lol. From the moment we arrived to the time we left the staff and Manager were we're fantastic and went above and beyond expectations . Nothing was too much trouble for them . My daughter mentioned she loved curry ( we ate in The Curry room the first night in the premises ) next day when we got back to our room a comprehensive list had been left by Veronika the receptionist . Such a nice thought. The manager was what all hotel manager should be like attentive and personable talking to the guests. Over evening drinks he spoke to us and I mentioned the only thing wrong was the portrait of Prince Charles in our room ! He asked if we would prefer Harry or William ! the time we returned to our too there on the beds were pics of Harry and William with a little note each and a flower , such a thoughtful and numerous gesture . Loved every minute thank you Bastien and staff for making our holiday special. A must to stay at if your going to London . I'll be back.

Have just returned from the most wonderful 2 night stay at Rubens on 15-17th Nov. From the moment we arrived we knew our stay would be made very comfortable. We were staying with our parents who were celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary and it was also their first visit back to London since their honeymoon! The personalised messages and delicacies we found awaiting our arrival in our rooms was a lovely welcome. Every member of staff was wonderful and we especially appreciated the interest staff took in our various outings to the palace and the theatre. It was lovely to be welcomed back by Stuart and Evelin especially. We dined on our first night in the English Grill which was wonderful although a number of dishes were no longer available for us to choose. Evelin kindly arranged a glass of champagne for us on our arrival and having had such a long journey this was very much appreciated by us all. Food was delicious. Special mention to Vincent for entertaining and looking after us at dinner. Such a comfortable hotel and we would all love to return one day again. Everything was done perfectly and we very much appreciated Stuart haling taxi's and opening doors for us when required. We felt like royalty. The hotel was warm and cosy which was exactly what we needed to come back to at the end of the day. Breakfasts were also perfectly pitched. Every small detail was attended to and made a huge difference to our comfort and enjoyment during our stay. Can't wait to come back to this hotel again and will be recommending a special stay here to all my friends. Thank you Sent from my iPhone

The hotel was newly redecorated, being an interior designer myself was extremely appreciative of the work that had been done. Every single person on the staff could not have been more pleasant or helpful. Definitely not the place to be missed on your tour of London.

We went to the Rubens for a Gin tasting experience and had an amazing time. The staff were exceptional and the hotel's gin expert Fabio was very knowledgeable and friendly. We were made very welcome and would recommend this experience to anyone. The bar had a great atmosphere with nice live music and decor, it's definitely worth a visit just for a few drinks. We will definitely be back.

We enjoyed four nights at this lovely hotel. It was a wonderful stay. The hotel is clean, charming and well decorated. The staff was perfectly trained, very welcoming and helpful. From the doormen, to concierge, reception and maid service the attention to detail was appreciated. The room was very nice, comfortable and we enjoyed our time. The cost is a little pricey. We felt secure since our room was located within the Royal Suites and required an extra card swipe to enter. The hotels location is absolutely perfect since it is directly across the street from Buckingham Palace and the Royal Mews. Many good shops within steps from the front door. Also, the hotel is a short walk across the street to the Sir Simon Milton Square which houses many upscale restaurants and stores. It is a very short walk to a Waitrose market with deli and a Prep A Manger restaurant. We only dined once in the hotel's English Grill, finding the service was very good and the food was just okay. We did not try out the other on site restaurants. A short walk to St. James Park, Buckingham Palace and Westminster Abby. Excellent stay! I would definitely recommend this hotel.
