About the Hotel

The Rubens at the Palace is the closest you'll get to a sleepover with the Queen without a state visit invitation. The hotel is directly across from the royal residence on property that enjoys a colorful past – the Duke of Buckingham lived here in the 1600s, followed by an apothecary and a Court dressmaker. The Rubens, which was built in 1912, housed the Polish army during WWII and gave respite to exiled Charles de Gaulle. The hotel's decadent – and often equally colorful – rooms and suites are a comfortable home base in the epicenter of London.

A Exceptional Experience at The Rubens at the Palace Our stay at The Rubens at the Palace was absolutely exceptional, and what made it so memorable was not only the beautiful hotel and incredible location, but the genuine warmth and thoughtfulness of every member of the staff. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with such kindness and personal attention. Every person we encountered was welcoming, professional, and genuinely interested in making sure our stay was special. The level of service was extraordinary, but it was the little things that truly set The Rubens apart. One particular moment captured everything we loved about this hotel. While speaking with the manager, I mentioned in passing that I wanted to find a sweatshirt for my granddaughter, whose name is London, as a special souvenir from our trip. I certainly didn’t expect anything more than a pleasant conversation. That evening, when we returned from dinner, I opened the door to our room and discovered a sweatshirt waiting for me, along with a heartfelt handwritten note. I was completely touched. It was such a thoughtful and unexpected gesture, and it demonstrated something that is difficult to teach or train: genuine care for your guests. That moment will stay with me long after our trip is over. It wasn’t about the sweatshirt itself—it was about the thought behind it and the fact that someone listened, remembered, and went out of their way to create a special memory for my family. And the location is simply wonderful. Being directly across from Buckingham Palace is hard to beat. We loved being able to walk out of the hotel and immediately find ourselves in the heart of London, with so many of the city’s most wonderful sights easily accessible. The Rubens has all the elegance, charm, and character you would hope for in a London hotel, but it is the people who truly make this hotel exceptional. From the manager to the front desk, housekeeping, dining staff, and everyone we encountered, the service was consistently warm and attentive. We have stayed at many wonderful hotels, but The Rubens stands out because it made us feel personally cared for rather than simply accommodated. The attention to every detail was remarkable, and the staff created an experience that went far beyond our expectations. We will always remember our stay at The Rubens—and especially the unexpected sweatshirt and heartfelt note waiting for us when we returned from dinner. Thank you to the entire Rubens team for making our London visit so special. We would return in a heartbeat and recommend The Rubens without hesitation. Truly exceptional hospitality, an unbeatable location, and service that comes from the heart.

My first trip to London did not disappoint!! Small boutique hotel with wonderful restaurants & bar. Exceptional customer service & kindness. Some of facility seems old & could use an update. Struggled with shower & high bathtub. Bed was luxuriously comfortable w lovely linens. Liked ability to get small single room. Jan was the doorman extraordinaire!! Surely the happiest person I have ever met.

Excellent Hotel except for road noise

We stayed for three nights in an executive king room. The room was excellent with great air conditioning, bed and lighting, but the bathroom was small but serviceable. The staff service was excellent but they add a 15 pounds/night service charge. Location also is excellent, near victoria station. The room was on the corner of the property so its windows took in the road noise from the adjoining street which was very noticeable at night, which is why I rate the stay as four stars.

I just returned from an amazing 6 nights at The Rubens. My trip was for business and at the last minute, I had to bring my baby along. This worried me greatly, but thanks to the wonderful staff of the hotel, my week went off without a hitch. The staff couldn't have been any kinder, more helpful, or professional. From the moment we arrived, special attention was paid to the baby and any assistance I needed. There is no doubt that I will be returning to this hotel. It has won a special place in my heart.

Our package at the Rubens at the Palace let my mother and me live like a queen. From the flowers in the room, the beautiful suite, the daily high tea, the staff - everything was a deluxe vacation opportunity. My previous vacations to London pale in comparison to this experience.

I can't say enough about the amazing service at the hotel. Everyone was so friendly and helpful whenever we had questions or needed help. The concierge was wonderful and went out of his way to come check on us and see how our day our was turning out. It made us feel very welcome and almost like family! The room was very comfortable, the food in the bar was great, service was amazing. We'll stay here again!
