About the Hotel

The Rubens at the Palace is the closest you'll get to a sleepover with the Queen without a state visit invitation. The hotel is directly across from the royal residence on property that enjoys a colorful past – the Duke of Buckingham lived here in the 1600s, followed by an apothecary and a Court dressmaker. The Rubens, which was built in 1912, housed the Polish army during WWII and gave respite to exiled Charles de Gaulle. The hotel's decadent – and often equally colorful – rooms and suites are a comfortable home base in the epicenter of London.

Reviews for The Rubens at the Palace

Hands down the best hotel on London

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 hours ago

What an AMAZING hotel! On this trip my husband and I traveled to Paris, London and Brussels and simply put - The Rubens at the Palace was BY FAR our favorite hotel (and we stayed at some pretty incredible hotels). What allowed them to stand out from the others was truly the staff and the attention, care and appreciation they show for their guests. Unfortunately it has felt lately like customer service no longer exists (particularly in the US) and the staff here erased that notion by not only going above and beyond in customer service but by truly treating each guest as if they were royalty. They proved to us that where you stay while on vacation is so much more than a place to lay your head at night but rather an experience in an of itself that can add significantly to your overall experience. The hotel is stunning, with artwork that makes you feel like you're in a museum, the rooms were spacious, beautiful (we'd suggest the king beds which are amazing!) and incredibly clean and we slept peacefully not noticing any noise. The location simply can't be beat with views from our room looking directly onto Buckingham Palace, walking distance to local subway station, shops, restaurants and more as well as walking distance to see Westminster, Big Ben, Parliament etc. It's also about 1 min from several of the jump-on, jump-off tour buses. If you are as obsessive as I am about finding just the right hotel and always having a fear of booking the wrong one (major fomo here), let me save you the trouble - book this hotel. You won't be sorry. Kudos to the owners of this property as they surely know how to treat their staff and that is reflected in the joy they all show for their positions.

I certainly felt like royalty while staying here. Excellent staff & accommodations. Delicious breakfast! Had to leave 4 am to get a train & received breakfast to go!. Close walk to Buckingham Palace to see “Changing of the Guards.” I couldn’t have been more pleased!

Fabulous Stay

Our stay at the Rubens at the Palace was one of the highlights of our travels to Great Britain. From the first entrance being greeted by the hotel staff, to our meals in the restaurants to the concierge that was able to help with assorted inquiries, all was perfect. The front desk staff, especially Shristi, was always cheerful and could not have been better, especially when some minor help was needed for our daily travels. I would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying here on our next visit to London.

Lovely hotel

Fabulous stay at the Rubens. Remarkable service from the moment we arrived until checkout. They truly care about the little personal touches that make you feel special and are a step above from the usual big chains. While the rooms are on the cozy side, the charm and amenities earned high marks from our party and the location is ideal for London sightseeing and easy access to Victoria Station.

Second stay - still very good

This was our second stay at The Rubens as a family, and I would definitely return again for a family trip to London. The rooms are very nice. Our time in London coincided with a collossal heat wave, but the air conditioning in the rooms had no trouble keeping up with the heat. We were able to sleep comfortably every night without issues. The Rubens is located in an ideal spot accessible to buses, the tube, and is walkable to many sightseeing spots. The breakfast (included in our rate) was top-notch and was a great way to start every day. Housekeeping was a source of a few minor frustrations for us, as multiple times we left the room before 8am (leaving out the "please clean" sign) returning after 3pm to find our room either uncleaned or in the process of being cleaned. After a full day of sightseeing in the heat, it's disappointing to return and be unable to get right into the shower. If you're here on a Friday, definitely take advantage of the historical pub walking tour. It was a fun way to experience London in a casual setting and talk to both a staff member and some fellow guests.

I just returned from an amazing 6 nights at The Rubens. My trip was for business and at the last minute, I had to bring my baby along. This worried me greatly, but thanks to the wonderful staff of the hotel, my week went off without a hitch. The staff couldn't have been any kinder, more helpful, or professional. From the moment we arrived, special attention was paid to the baby and any assistance I needed. There is no doubt that I will be returning to this hotel. It has won a special place in my heart.

Our package at the Rubens at the Palace let my mother and me live like a queen. From the flowers in the room, the beautiful suite, the daily high tea, the staff - everything was a deluxe vacation opportunity. My previous vacations to London pale in comparison to this experience.

I stayed at the hotel and found it to be delightful. It was a good, central location with comfortable, well-appointed rooms. The staff was outstanding, and the food was quite good. I would definitely stay there again!

I can't say enough about the amazing service at the hotel. Everyone was so friendly and helpful whenever we had questions or needed help. The concierge was wonderful and went out of his way to come check on us and see how our day our was turning out. It made us feel very welcome and almost like family! The room was very comfortable, the food in the bar was great, service was amazing. We'll stay here again!
