The Rubens at the Palace in London, England

The Rubens at the Palace is the closest you'll get to a sleepover with the Queen without a state visit invitation. The hotel is directly across from the royal residence on property that enjoys a colorful past – the Duke of Buckingham lived here in the 1600s, followed by an apothecary and a Court dressmaker. The Rubens, which was built in 1912, housed the Polish army during WWII and gave respite to exiled Charles de Gaulle. The hotel's decadent – and often equally colorful – rooms and suites are a comfortable home base in the epicenter of London.

Greet the day with a morning stroll across the gardens. Stop by the Queen's Gallery, which displays many of the best works from the Royal Family's personal collection. Roam Westminster, but be back in time for high tea – from the lounge you’ll see the Queen's stables and maybe even catch a glimpse of passing pageantry. As evening progresses, settle into an armchair by a crackling fire and savor a plate of grilled Dover sole with chive and butter sauce.

Have stayed here before. This hotel is luxurious, comfortable and well located for most attractions. The staff could not be more helpful & friendly especially the front desk staff & doormen (sorry I can never remember names) who all went the extra mile to make our stay comfortable and memorable. As it was my birthday I very much appreciated the fruit bowl left in our room along with a hand written note of welcome as well as the room upgrade. My only criticism would be the loss of the buffet and carvery service at breakfast and dinner (personal preference) nevertheless the food and service was very good. We look forward to a return visit.

The staff at Reubens was beyond excellent. Maisie, Stuart, and Pavilich (sp) were so friendly and helpful. They made our wedding anniversary truly one to remember. The restaurants in the hotel were all excellent and the rooms were comfortable and ever so elegant .

My husband and I have stayed here before in 2011 but this time my Hamilton superfan teenage daughter and I were visiting London on our own so we chose The Rubens again as it was so close to the Theatre. We felt thoroughly looked after from the moment we arrived. Our room was lovely and we had a great surprise when we arrived back after the Theatre to find a personal note from Reception and Hamilton macarons for supper - my daughter was thrilled!. Breakfast was second to none and we left the Hotel feeling as if we had had a real treat and it was money well spent. Thanks for looking after us so well.

Recently renovated - lovely rooms, if a bit small. Staff is friendly and helpful. If you have mobility issues, ask about the showers when you book. My husband and I are healthy and in our mid-40s and we joked about getting in and out of the shower without breaking something. (I asked a question through email, and got a response in 24 hours). I would advise against pre-booking the 80 pound breakfast (about $100 PER PERSON). Just down the street are some great breakfast options that were much more budget friendly. I thought the view of the Mews was fun, but we really didn't use it much, so you could save a little there. Location of hotel is great - just a couple blocks from Victoria station. Laundry service within a day if you call in the morning for pick up - reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

Great place- great location and excellent service. Perfect to go touring. The restaurant was good but very expensive. Had guests for high tea which was excellent. The bar had very good entertainment. I would definitely return.
