I was traveling with an upscale tour group in Europe and London is our last stop. The hotel the tour company arranged in London is actually quite charming with lots of touches of Victorian grandeur. However, wherever I travel, I want to stay in a high end hotel centrally located with a view of landmark icons. I extended my vacation for two days in London on my own. Savoy was chosen for my extended stay because it is one of the few top tier 5 star hotels in the center of London, by the Thames River. I booked a River View King Room through the Fairmont website with a note that I prefer higher floors. Upon checking in, the receptionist told me all luxury river view rooms are on the 3rd floor and with £100 extra, he could upgrade me to an upper floor junior suite above the tree top with unobstructed views. I gladly accepted. The junior suite is exuberantly decorated and furnished, with the sweeping view of the Thames River. The view gets better when the night falls, with the London Eye light up in red and the Parliament and Big Ben in gold. The bath room has a separate dressing area, his and her walk-in closets, and is as big as a bedroom. The bath products are exquisite, especially the perfumed body lotion. The best part of the hotel is its service. Every staff I have met, from the door man to the butler, from the bar and restaurant staff to the SPA staff, from the bell desk to the concierge, are all very friendly and attentive. On my first night I ordered a seafood platter. There is nothing wrong with the British style cocktail sauce, but I asked if they have any American style cocktail sauce. The server apologized that they don’t carry the American cocktail sauce, but offered to make fresh cocktail sauce with ingredients Americans would prefer. I said that was not necessary. Nevertheless, they made the fresh sauce for me which did taste very delicious. Talking about food, Savoy’s Afternoon Tea is superbly good. The concierge team is great and fulfilled every pre-arrival request with great satisfaction. However, with multi people responding, I was asked to provide the same information for a couple of times. I was offered the Fairmont President’s Club membership, but it was not set up during my stay. Upon checking out, I received the invitation, but I was unable to activate apparently something went wrong with the profile set up. Nonetheless, I enjoyed very much for my stay at the Savoy, my first experience with the Fairmont. I have stayed at many of the world’s best rated hotels, the Savoy is one of my most favorite. With $1,300 per night price tag, it is actually a deal as compared with the same category room, say in New York City.

One of the best hotels in the world! Amazing staff. Amazing surroundings and location. Food was fantastic. Kids loved the pool. I really can't find anything negative other than the price but the quality explains and more than compensates for this.

We stayed in this beautiful historic hotel for only one night, but it was delightful. The staff, room, service and food, even though it was only breakfast was outstanding. The service and staff are second to none, extremely helpful and pleasant. It all comes with a very hefty price tag but worth it just for the experience if you are like me and usually out of our price range. This was a birthday treat from my family, however if I could afford it this is the hotel I would stay in in London, we have been in other prestigious hotels round the city but this one is by far our best so far.

Yesterday was pure indulgence as the Wife and I had afternoon tea at The Savoy in The Strand London What an amazing experience as if we thought it would be anything else Pampered and waited on by the most tentative waiter who had an amazing eye for attention to detail that there was not one thing we could fault Soothing gentle piano playing in the background amazingly for the size of the place the music was neither to load or to quiet - just right seems to mild an expression but it was The food was amazing and made to perfection There was no rushing or hassling or over powering to keep checking all was ok as the staff were to observant to miss if anything was not as expected If you want to spoil yourself for an afternoon this is the place to go
