First let me preface this by saying I am a designer and super discriminating.... If you're going to splurge, you can feel confident about doing it here. As it's been said in other reviews, hard to fault anything. Staff were incredible, attentive, friendly, professional. The building and grounds retains all the old classic elegance while the re-furb is of the highest modern standards with a seamless integration of technology, from the iPad control center and concierge to the high end bang and olfuson TV and motion sensor night lights.

We stayed at the Bel-Air for four nights. On arrival, we were upgraded to a Canyon suite which was wonderful, with a large patio, fireplace and hot tub outside. We also benefitted from sun throughout the day in our patio. The room was huge, elegant and seemed newly refurbished. Their use of Ipad is great: you can pretty much order anything or set any preferences using the Ipad in the room. We needed a small fix for the hot tub, ordered maintenance via the Ipad and they were there within minutes. The property is gorgeous; the gardens are absolutely breathtaking. They have done a great job preserving the history of the hotel and yet kept it up to date. We had our daily breakfast at the hotel which was lovely, both the food and the setting in the covered garden. We also had drinks in the bar and once had dinner there, which was also great. We also used the gym daily; it is small but has everything you need. The pool is also beautiful and was very quiet during our stay. Service throughout, but especially at the pool was fantastic. I could not imagine a classier or more enjoyable stay in LA; if only I could stay there all day!!

My boyfriend and I stayed here in the summer of last year and I can honestly say I couldn't fault a single thing at the Hotel Bel-Air. We loved it here so much that we decided to cancel our trip to Arizona in favour of extending our stay here. The service was faultless and every member of staff we came across was polite and attentive. We particularly enjoyed the dinner we had one evening at the hotel's restaurant; the food was excellent and the waitress who served us did a fantastic job of making the evening special. The rooms aren't as large or perhaps as extravagant as you tend to find in a 5-star hotel in the middle of a city, but our room was still clean, well-furnished and plenty big enough for the two of us. The patio area outside was also a nice touch and we enjoyed breakfast out on the table there on a few occasions. The Bel-Air were always happy to help us with dinner reservations or tickets for anything we wanted to do or see and the complimentary hotel driver was perfect for short trips out.

I spent a night at the Bel-Air recently. This was a return visit after a long interval and my first since the big re-furb. I have to say it was everything you could hope for. Beautifully decorated rooms and the staff solicitous without being overbearing. At the end of a long day I ate at the Wolfgang Puck restaurant and found it perfectly satisfactory. The restaurant's indoor / outdoor set-up seemed to me to work particularly well. To my eye the grounds and buildings are lovely, retaining all the old charm, but then I'm not looking for this year's gimmick. One final comment: the setting is LA canyon land, quiet and lush, yet right in the great sprawl of the city. Resonantly fabulous but canyon nonetheless, so no great sunsets here. Perhaps the next refit might include reflecting mirrors on the far ridge-line - now that would be very LA...
