The Cliffs Preserve at Patagonia in Los Muermos, Chile
Eco-luxury may seem like a contradiction, but once you experience The Cliffs Preserve at Patagonia in Chile you will come to understand its true meaning. A self-contained sanctuary, you will discover that every convenience, luxury and activity is available to create the ideal retreat. This private 8,000-acre preserve features a collection of rustically elegant villas containing independent suites, as well as complete private villas, with such thoughtful appointments as porches, whirlpool tubs, open fireplaces, state-of-the-art sound systems, wood-fired hot tubs, and more. Guests convene inside the expansive lodge located on the preserve's primary beach with lofty public spaces, intimate bars and an area for outdoor barbecues. The second floor is home to the preserve's wellness spa, where a menu of treatments are administered in a soothing environment.
Dining is a sumptuous affair, also taking place at the lodge. The preserve grows much of the ingredients that find their way onto the menu, while seafood - such as Pacific King Crab, Chilean Sea Bass and Abalone - is pulled from the local waters. The wine list is equally impressive, offering the best vintages Chile has to offer. The preserve has its own marina with a protected cove that creates a safe haven for miles. The marina is the starting point for all nautical adventures including visits to penguin and sea lion colonies, and sea kayaking. The stables are home to a menagerie of gentle horses, which are available for an afternoon ride along scenic pathways and the beach. If you want to commune with nature, the preserve's lush trails wind through way through leafy forests, pristine beaches and open meadows for some 20 miles. Enjoy these activities and many others as well, all in the company of the preserve's exclusive team of guides. The Cliffs Preserve at Patagonia not only puts you in touch with Mother Nature, it lets you lose touch with the outside world.

Reviews for The Cliffs Preserve at Patagonia
Amazing landscape, people and housing. Its Patagonian mix of the pacific ocean meeting the rocky cliffs create a unique landscape you will never forget! Staff were amazing, activities were breathtaking and you see animals you've never seen before (ie. PudĂș). Imagine exploring a rocky archipelago full of sea lions in a kayak, while a sea otter follows you, to finally surf the waves back to shore amongst dolphins....unbelievable!

As noted by other reviewers, it is extremely difficult to rate this hotel, because there is really nothing to which you can compare it. My wife and I have traveled extensively worldwide for business and pleasure, and over the years, we have stayed at some exceptional five star properties (including two others on this same trip), and I can honestly say that I have NEVER experienced a stay as wonderful as the Cliffs Preserve. It's probably the most perfect hotel stay I have ever had. I will elaborate: The location and setting are second to none. You're about an hour or so from the airport, but it's a beautiful drive, and we enjoyed chatting with the manager to learn about the resort on the way there. The property is extremely isolated, and as you enter through the gate, you can tell that you're in for something special. Driving through the trees, you come up upon the lodge and are greeted by the staff. Luis had a delicious martini (carrot, I believe!) waiting for us, and Daniella the chef came to discuss our likes and dislikes. We were given some delicious snacks, and our guide Daniel discussed with us what we wanted to do during our five day stay. They are extremely thorough and work very hard to make the vacation just what you want (more on that later). We were then escorted to our villa - all I can say is WOW. Even though it was just the two of us, we had a villa that had two bedrooms and a loft space, several bathrooms, a full kitchen (stocked with drinks and some snacks!), a beautiful den, multiple patios and probably the most unbelievable beach/mountain view you can imagine. It was absolutely perfect. Probably the most pleasantly surprising feature was the wood-fired hot tub located on the hill between the villa and the beach. They keep the fire burning literally the entire time you're there, so the tub is always (very!) hot. It's a unique feature, and a very nice touch. Unless you request otherwise, the meals are all served in the lodge. Daniella (aka Negra) runs a wonderful kitchen, and the food was exquisite. Having just come from Argentina, I was a bit tired of steak, so the menus were tailored to our specification and included no red meat during the entire stay. Before dinner every night, we had a cocktail creation by Luis (a true genius - seriously) along with some delicious appetizers. There's no sense of hurry or rushing - we transitioned to the dinner table when we were ready, and Luis and Alejandro took wonderful care of us at each meal. Dining was definitely one of the highlights of the stay - it was top notch. The activities are numerous. As I noted, our guide Daniel sat down with us at check in to discuss our interests. One thing I really liked about this property is that they help get you out of your comfort zone. I'm not much of an outdoorsman, but they made lots of activities very accessible for a novice like me. Hiking was easy (and takes you to some great views!), but we also did lots of horseback riding and even some river rafting. I understand the fishing is pretty good, but that was a full day excursion, so we opted not to do that. When you're ready to relax, the spa is a great place to unwind. The massages were very good, and the facility, though small, is quite plush. As wonderful as all that I have mentioned is, the absolute best thing about this hotel is the staff. I cannot imagine that there is a better group of staff in any hotel on earth. I have been meaning to write this review for the last six months, and the fact that I can still remember their names speaks volumes about how great they are. Over the course of the stay, they truly became friends. They went above and beyond in every respect to make sure that our trip was amazing. For example, one night, we rode horses to a hiking trail that had a wonderful sunset view. As we rounded the bend, Negra and her staff along with Luis and Alejandro were waiting for us with a special meal that they had prepared on top of a mountain. And this was no light picnic. They had literally CARRIED kitchen equipment (including a gas stove) to cook the meal on the mountain. The table was set with a white table cloth and a lovely, huge floral arrangement. Luis had brought some special music (discuss his music tastes with him - you'll be surprised!). My wife and I started to eat but realized that we were missing something - our new friends! we invited the staff to sit with us, and honestly, it was one of the best experiences of the stay. They really are wonderful people. They even surprised us with a video montage of our trip when we left, and all the staff gathered to watch it on our last night. I'd be lying if I said that my wife didn't shed a tear as the video ended. I can gush on about this place forever. There are many hotels that I visit and enjoy, and then I'm ready to move on to the next one on the list. But the Cliffs Preserve is one of those places that you just want to return to again and again, and I certainly intend to do just that.

We stayed there with the whole family (7 adults and 2 very young children) for our Christmas vacation, in a four room villa. This is such a remote and exceptional place that it is difficult to comment. There is nothing you can really compare with. The location is marvellous, there is a lot to see, wonderful walks, horse riding, etc.The staff, the guides would do anything you ask for. I would never have thought that I would comment about a bar one day but I have to say they have an exceptional barman who prepares excellent and very original cocktails (with or without alcool) different every day, with plants they grow at the farm. I do not believe there are 10 persons in the world at such a level. Yet one has to know the general standards of the place are not yet the same as in Europe, (but it seems it is often the case in South America). For example the service at the restaurant was slow, not very efficient and even after 8 days there was no way we could have them understand that they should serve the young children first and faster so they keep quiet. Anyway you do not want to get angry because they are no nice and always trying to do better! And the food is good! For all those who can afford the Cliff Preserves: go there, you will love it and you will feel blessed to have been there.

Stayed for three nights in early March. The secluded ocean side location is scenic and dramatic. The villas are beautifully constructed and designed for pure comfort. A soak in the wood fired hot tub is particularly welcome after a hike around the property. The horses are gentle and well behaved. The food is wonderful. And the best of all is the staff. The guides assigned to each guest group are warm, fun, personable and knowledgeable. Everyone in the lodge from Luis the bartender to Daniela the Chef, to the wait staff and front desk are devoted to making your visit memorable. The overall level of service and personal attention is outstanding.

I will start by saying this is such a beautiful place-the main lodge is delightful, and the views are to die for. They were kind enough to upgrade us to a 4 bedroom villa, so the 3 of us had more than enough room. The crocs provided are such a nice touch, and everyday was tailored to our specific needs. We rode horses on the beach, my husband went fishing all day one day and had a lovely steak lunch waiting for him when they were done. Yes, it is a ride from the airport, and the last 20 minutes or so are on a dirt road. However, once you arrive you will not believe your eyes! A most beautiful beach with not a soul to share it with. However, what sets this place apart is the people. Although it has been said before, they care so much about they guests. Our guide Daniel was a true delight, and quite a guy for only being 24 years old. Daniella in the kitchen gave my daughter a cooking lesson, which produced pizza in the shape of a heart for me and a guitar for my husband. She is absolutely one of the nicest people I have ever met! I don't even know where to start on my sweet new friend Luis, the bartender. He will capture your heart:)! We felt blessed to meet his wife and daughter who were visiting for the week. We loved the animals at the farm, and enjoyed the sweet, clean scents of the forest. Plan on visiting the organic garden and eating produce pulled out of the ground and rinsed. All I can say... is GO!
