Reviews for The Cliffs Preserve at Patagonia

Disappointed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed April 22, 2023

We were drawn to Mari Mari primarily by their heavy promotion of their Ocean and River activities - whale/dolphin watching, boat rides, snorkeling, kayaking on the river etc. We quickly discovered that the ocean is quite rough and the coast guard shuts down water access on most days of the year. They know this but fail to mention it - there were just 16 days allowed the previous year per their guides. We had 5 prepaid nights over New Years Eve in 2022 and never once set foot in the water. After 4 nights we asked to check out early to move on to another place. At the time there was agreement that one night would be refunded which seemed fair, This was reinforced by many emails sent on behalf of the owner to my travel agent. To date they have not refunded that one night and seem to be hoping that we will stop asking. I find this unacceptable for a premier property. The one star review is for their lack of integrity in resolving this matter and the misleading promotion of their water activities. We had no issues with the rest of the stay. The location is objectively beautiful, the service and food are very good and we enjoyed the equine program and the hikes. There is a helicopter ride (not included) which showcases the rugged coastline and was a highlight of the trip. I will update this review if they ever choose to follow thru on their commitment.

Amazing place!!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed March 15, 2022

We spent three nights/four days by the end of February in this incredible place. We were lodged in a "villa" which is a beautiful house made of wood and stone. The views from the house are fantastic. Every villa has a wooden hot tub which is heated every afternoon by a Mari Mari staff. Our guide, Christian was extremely helpful and ready to answer everything. Daniela, the chef prepares the most delicious dishes, adapted to the particular requirements of the guests. We trekked with our guide, visited the incredible orchard that feeds the guests and enjoyed the hot tub and the views. If you wish you can go horse riding, visit (weather permitting) an island with penguins and even take a ride in the helicopter. The attention to detail in Mari Mari is incredible and we felt pampered in our stay. Little problems with the heating were solved in minutes. In our last night we had a surprise waiting in our villa (it was our wedding anniversary). The fireplace was lit, candles, champagne and crepes with berries were waiting for us after dinner. This is a beautiful corner of the world in Northern Chilean Patagonia well worth a visit. Not inexpensive at all, but if you can go you'll be happy you did.

A Patagonia Paradise Trip-Part II

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed February 28, 2022

In February 2012, my father and I vacationed at the Cliffs Preserve in northern Patagonia, Chile. It was a trip of a lifetime, and I vowed then to return with the rest of my family. Fast forward to February 2022, when we visited the exact location and resort known as Mari Mari. Yet again, I have rated this private and secluded resort as excellent in every Trip Advisor category, something I very rarely do. A first-class lodge and six incredible cliffside villas overlook the gorgeous Pacific Ocean beach below. Every staff member was there to please, serve, and smile. A Master Chef prepares delectable three-course organic and varied menus at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The beauty of the Chilean landscape and nature is magnificent at the all-inclusive Mari Mari resort. An included helicopter ride along the spectacular coastline was a highlight of our trip. Imagine touring an organic garden from which your dinner will be handpicked or a boat ride to see whales, penguins, and sea lions romping in the wild. Take a short guided hike through the woods and rainforest to Devil’s Throat. Watch the sunset over the rocks while waves crash into the ocean below. Consider taking a horseback ride on the beach with gentle Chilean horses. Or maybe just read a book and then ease into the wood-fired hot tub with a magnificent glass of Chilean wine. Mari Mari offers personalization, experiences, and comfort like no other place in the world. My family recommends you book Mari Mari and experience YOUR trip of a lifetime without hesitation.

Superb

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed February 23, 2020

This is an all inclusive resort that provides outstanding service, food, accommodation and activities. Or just come here to get away from it all, relax, and be pampered. With great attention to detail and, due to its size with only 6 bungalows, staff being able to build a personal relationship during your stay, leaving here felt like departing from family. Accommodation is the most spacious we experienced in 4 weeks touring Chile. Bungalows are also well appointed, comfortable, modern and clean with stunning ocean views. Having your own, and private, hot tub to relax in each evening is also wonderful. The main building, where all meals are served, is also spacious and includes relaxation areas with large floor to ceiling windows to take in light and surrounding scenery. With a dedicated guide for our 3 night stay, planning activities was easy and always with the right take on physical abilities and what we wanted to get out of the excursion. Food ingredients are from their own garden, and local area, to a large degree, and is made with love, from a chef who respects local and ancestoral culture. The chef also makes herself known to guests, is welcoming and gives the best cuddles of all to all. Bar staff, who also do table service of meals, were outstanding. Is a bit out of the way along dirt roads, but well worth any slight inconvenience. A most memorable stay.

Beautiful location, great staff

We loved our stay in Mari Mari. We went there with our little girl and everyone looked after all of us in such a lovely, warm way I cannot be thankful enough. The location is beautiful, such raw beauty and the villas are roomy, well equipped and with everything you need to enjoy this gorgeous part of the world to the max. Our guide, Sven was superb and the chef Daniela prepares amazing dishes. We will return when the little one is old enough to enjoy more of the activities there to do!

At The Cliffs Preserve at Patagonia you'll find REAL PARADISE!

Envision eight thousand acres of private preserve as your back yard, and six miles of Pacific Ocean with uninhabited and unblemished beaches as your front yard. Think about being surrounded by a surreal temperate rainforest rich in exotic vegetation and unique and very rare wildlife. Now, imagine there were only six lodging structures total with a maximum of 20 registered guests at time.

Well, you have arrived! Now imagine, after at full day of hiking well-marked trails, paddling sea kayaks through protected coves and fly-fishing some of the most challenging waters in the Southern Hemisphere, you climb into your own wood burning hot tub beneath star filled heavens offering a clear view of the Southern Cross. Could it get any better than this? Well, add to the picture two private chefs devoted to offering freshly prepared culinary delights using ingredients from the on-property garden, serving dishes expertly coupled with fine Chilean wines and Pisco Sours that you can enjoy around an open fireplace with new friends.

We discovered Paradise at The Cliffs Preserve at Patagonia, which is less than two hours drive from the airport in Puerto Montt, Chile. It is truly the best that Northern Patagonia has to offer. If you are fortunate enough to visit The Cliffs Preserve…you will want to return! We Do!

We just returned from a fabulous week at this property and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for an ultra-comfortable, quiet, beautiful place to escape to. The staff are exceedingly helpful and caring and the food is spectacular! In spite of the grueling flights back home to Canada we returned feeling rested and recharged - it is hard not to be moved by the glorious natural beauty of this very special place. We cannot wait to return.
