Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao

The location was very good, with a convenient shuttle service to and from the night market area, and the room itself was spacious with a lovely overall setting that initially made for a pleasant impression. However, the stay was impacted by several unexpected issues, as the booking was changed after being moved from Sofitel due to its sudden closure for renovation, and it was later discovered upon check-in that renovation work was also taking place at this hotel. The spa was not open during the stay, and a substitute room was in use, with access routed through a staff entrance area, which affected the overall comfort and feel of the experience. On the final day, there was also constant drilling, which made it difficult to enjoy any sense of peace or relaxation. Also the gym isn’t great as the air con wasn’t working 2 of 3 days meaning it’s very hot, no towels provided if you want to use the shower there and no sink to wash your hands after using the washroom. Further some areas of the hotel do need repair with some of the walk way planks showing signs of decay. The staff though are fantastic as was the room and breakfast. The team did try to compensate for the impact but by this juncture our stay had been impacted and at this price point wasn’t ideal. Overall, the experience was acceptable, but in hindsight, if the renovation work had been known in advance, it would have been preferable to request a refund from Sofitel rather than agreeing to the transfer here due to the renovation works impacting the stay. I would however stay here again once the renovation works is complete especially as it will move under Margot Bonvoy from 1st Nov.

This was an amazing hotel! The reason that it’s dropped to 4 stars was that we was moved here by the Sofitel as they are undergoing a refit! And it turned out this hotel also had some work being done ready for it to change to Marriot group! Whilst this isn’t major at no point was we informed of this. Until We arrived! The disruption was minimal but still we should have been forewarned However the manager and the staff are amazingly attentive. The breakfast is lactate and I recommend the local pho and khan soup . The room was of a good size great view and the shuttle service to town is so convenient !

Not sure where to start but honestly this place is SPECTACULAR. We can’t recommend it highly enough. We had a family of 8’people and we thoroughly enjoyed our time so much. The attention to detail and service is impeccable. You won’t regret booking this place ! The restaurant and restaurant staff are wonderful, food is amazing! Big shout out to Andre the chef, Min the sommelier and Lai. Also reception staff Lae and Bae. Also thank you to Mandal for our AMAZING sunset cruise. Luang Prabang is a treasure. We didn’t want to leave La Résidence

This hotel is beautiful and has a lit of charm. Its building ate from the colonial time and the rooms and public spaces are nicely appointed . It is a little outside town but this has not been a problem as they provide a shuttle which is very efficient. If the shuttle is not available it is very easy to order a tuk tuk . The ride from the hotel to the center costs 50 000 kips that is about 5 USD. The food is good but choices are limited. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, they are extremely courteous and always trying to please. The activities are well organised. We especially enjoyed the excursion on the Mekong and to the Buddahs caves

We had dinner and it was one of the best meals we’ve had in Laos! Min recommended wonderful dishes with nice wines that go along with it, and it was all in all an amazing experience! The food and service were on such a high level. The fried eggplant, the prawns, mango sticky rice and sesame balls were so so delicious and perfect portione. I would highly recommend it! Thank you Saw, Min and their team!
