Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao in Luang Prabang, Laos
In the ancient capital of Laos is a resort of extraordinary brilliance—Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao is shrouded in leafy wonderment high atop the Hill of Kites in Luang Prabang. With views of colliding rivers, soaring mountains, and ancient temples, this luxury resort embraces its Asian history and French influences. The collection of rooms and suites are exquisitely appointed eschewing ornate embellishments and opting for cleaner and more calming motifs. Terrazo baths, rich organic cottons, spacious surroundings and plush textiles are just a few of the unexpected pleasures concealed behind closed doors. Large picture windows frame seemingly airbrushed views of the breathtaking landscape.
Dining at La Résidence is an explosion of exotic flavors that marry Laotian cuisine with traditional European tastes. Illuminated by a fleet of lanterns, Phou Savanh Restaurant's setting is as appetizing as the menu. French and Laotian cuisine complements one another for lunch and dinner. The Five Hundred Candle Dinner is an amazing culinary experience and one to surely ignite romance. A table for two is positioned on the resort's hilltop where 500 flickering candles set the stage for an elegant dinner and live music accompaniment. End the evening on a high note at the Doc Champa Bar, an open-air lounge that also serves a delightful afternoon tea. Home to the nation's first luxury spa, Mekong Spa is superb sanctuary featuring an array of treatments, steam room and a refreshing infinity-edge pool. Take a two-wheel trek and enjoy a scenic bike ride stopping only to enjoy a gourmet, chef-prepared picnic of regional specialties.

Reviews for Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao
We would highly recommend this resort, from the time of our pick-up at the airport until we left a few days later, we marvelled at the luxurious room, the delicious breakfast, the attentive staff and the convenient transfers into town (free hotel shuttles back and forth to restaurants for dinner). The breakfast each morning was also a major highlight - though we were fortunate that the resort was quiet whilst we stayed, the quality of the cooked items and the variety of fruits and pastries were excellent; we would particularly recommend trying the local dishes! The swimming pool was also lovely and clean, and amazingly even warmer than the ambient temperatures around it which I really enjoyed. We also experienced a couple of tours, one to the waterfalls and one to the Pak Ou caves on the hotel’s boat. The latter tour in particular was wonderful - the boat is perfect for couples and has two beds for relaxing in whilst floating down the Mekong, and being served drinks and snacks. We had never imagined the journey would be as fun as the destination!

It was an incredible experience ! The garden view accommodation was sublime. The swimming pool, bar and restaurant created a unique relaxing atmosphere. The hotel is in the city yet we felt as if we were in the jungle with a wonderful view on the Phou Si temple. We only stayed a couple of days but it left a lasting memory !
We stayed as part of a group and I was so happy with how beautiful and tranquil the place is. When I think of it I just take a deep breath and think "Ahhh". Our room gave us the feeling of being in a tree house - all the beautiful wood work and that balcony the overlooked the area by the spa with the mountains in the distance was just so relaxing. The staff was beyond accommodating, for example, we were there for Super Bowl Sunday and the property manager (I do apologize but my memory is not what it once was) did all he could to try to get it to broadcast from my iPad to a big screen in the meeting room so all in our group could watch if they wanted. Mind you this was at 6am local time. The food and cocktails reflects the beauty, details and everything that is perfect about this establishment.

The hotel service is of the highest quality, couldn't do enough for us. They made us feel more like family rather than guests. The rooms are very clean, the food was out of this world - complements to the chef!! Our 'Elms Giving to Monks' & the Sunset Cruise on the Mekong River which was part of our Luxury Escapes package was a real highlight. A must to visit is the Kuang Si Waterfalls, most outstanding. Don't waste your time visiting the Pak Ou Caves as the caves were full of beggars and pieces of small Buddha statues with a couple of small shrines and nothing more. To get there on the long boat up the Mekong river was the highlight of the day. Note - Hotel prices are all US$ But get some Kip dollars on arrival.

Stayed for 3 nights with my wife and 3 kids at the Belmond in Luang Prabang. The location is slightly out of town (a plus for me) atop a small hill giving lovely views from the breakfast porch and the pool. The hotel is tastefully done up with lots of local details. Breakfast was excellent with a great view to go a long with the very good food. Our son had high fever on the last night and the hotel was very helpful with finding us a good doctor and organising the shuttle service. Food and Beverage overseen by Michael who was ever present and accommodating with food (particularly for the kids). I highly recommend this hotel - this service is excellent and would love to visit again.
