Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao in Luang Prabang, Laos

In the ancient capital of Laos is a resort of extraordinary brilliance—Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao is shrouded in leafy wonderment high atop the Hill of Kites in Luang Prabang. With views of colliding rivers, soaring mountains, and ancient temples, this luxury resort embraces its Asian history and French influences. The collection of rooms and suites are exquisitely appointed eschewing ornate embellishments and opting for cleaner and more calming motifs. Terrazo baths, rich organic cottons, spacious surroundings and plush textiles are just a few of the unexpected pleasures concealed behind closed doors. Large picture windows frame seemingly airbrushed views of the breathtaking landscape.

Dining at La Résidence is an explosion of exotic flavors that marry Laotian cuisine with traditional European tastes. Illuminated by a fleet of lanterns, Phou Savanh Restaurant's setting is as appetizing as the menu. French and Laotian cuisine complements one another for lunch and dinner. The Five Hundred Candle Dinner is an amazing culinary experience and one to surely ignite romance. A table for two is positioned on the resort's hilltop where 500 flickering candles set the stage for an elegant dinner and live music accompaniment. End the evening on a high note at the Doc Champa Bar, an open-air lounge that also serves a delightful afternoon tea. Home to the nation's first luxury spa, Mekong Spa is superb sanctuary featuring an array of treatments, steam room and a refreshing infinity-edge pool. Take a two-wheel trek and enjoy a scenic bike ride stopping only to enjoy a gourmet, chef-prepared picnic of regional specialties.

We arrived in Belmond La Residence directly from Belmond in Siem Reap. We spent 3 nights and were lucky to discover amazing Laos. Luang Prabang is a calm city where you can relax and live like in a village, very safe, people are super nice and we found peace here. The hotel is Colonial Style, it has a wonderful view on Mont Pusi, it is a 5 mins by car or tuc tuc from the center. We arrived in the night so after a couple of hours we asked the managment to change room (i think a previous customer smoked inside not following the rules) and they were very kind to give us another one for the night and the following morning they were so kind to also propose a nicer one. Every one has been so gentle and nice, each one of the people working here knew our name, we tried almost all excursion: city tour (you see all temples), sunset in the river with amazing Belmond boat, tour by boat to the Buddha Cave, waterfall tour and the monk rice giving. I would advice to take the rooms above the reception or mountain view. Also a must is to try a restaurant outside in the center called Manda de Laos. Thanks Belmond and all the stuff, please let us say a special thanks for their kindness to Por at the reception (intern guy that I m sure ll have big future in hotel industry), to Siphone in the restaurant, to our tour guide Phonevilai and to the nicest driver ever Sonbath. Thanks again!

Amazing hotel!. The staff is amazing, extremely friendly and helpful. Airport transportation is a definite plus under such a warm weather. The food is very good, the pool is very pleasant with a gorgeous view. The rooms are just amazing as well. Home far away from home.

We were celebrating a special anniversary and could not have chosen a better place. Everything was amazing from the moment we arrived - the staff, service, setting, our room - it was all perfect. The piece de resistance was the 500 candle dinner which was spectacular in every way and was an unforgettable experience. Thanks to all the staff who made our celebration so special.

Was blown away by this property. Beautiful setting on a hillside with sweeping reviews of the Laos country side Rooms are roomy and beautifully appointed. Staff can't do enough for you Breakfast in front of the pool looking at the view is memorable Staff coordinated a welcome Buddhist blessing for our group which helped us understand how the Buddhist religion is such an integral part of Laos

This hotel was a haven of luxury and comfort...and service. I rode a hotel bike around LP each day; and then returned and relaxed in the stunning pool. The room was so comfortable and elegant. The food at the hotel was some of the best I have tasted. I commented to the F&B Director, Mr. Hafner, about how delicious the food was, and that I particularly liked the tamarind sauce. Upon my departure, I received the recipe for the tamarind sauce and a bottle to take home with me. Classy!!
