Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao in Luang Prabang, Laos
In the ancient capital of Laos is a resort of extraordinary brilliance—Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao is shrouded in leafy wonderment high atop the Hill of Kites in Luang Prabang. With views of colliding rivers, soaring mountains, and ancient temples, this luxury resort embraces its Asian history and French influences. The collection of rooms and suites are exquisitely appointed eschewing ornate embellishments and opting for cleaner and more calming motifs. Terrazo baths, rich organic cottons, spacious surroundings and plush textiles are just a few of the unexpected pleasures concealed behind closed doors. Large picture windows frame seemingly airbrushed views of the breathtaking landscape.
Dining at La Résidence is an explosion of exotic flavors that marry Laotian cuisine with traditional European tastes. Illuminated by a fleet of lanterns, Phou Savanh Restaurant's setting is as appetizing as the menu. French and Laotian cuisine complements one another for lunch and dinner. The Five Hundred Candle Dinner is an amazing culinary experience and one to surely ignite romance. A table for two is positioned on the resort's hilltop where 500 flickering candles set the stage for an elegant dinner and live music accompaniment. End the evening on a high note at the Doc Champa Bar, an open-air lounge that also serves a delightful afternoon tea. Home to the nation's first luxury spa, Mekong Spa is superb sanctuary featuring an array of treatments, steam room and a refreshing infinity-edge pool. Take a two-wheel trek and enjoy a scenic bike ride stopping only to enjoy a gourmet, chef-prepared picnic of regional specialties.

Reviews for Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao
We stayed here 2 nights. It is a beautiful hotel it is peaceful and calm a great place to chill. We had a suit so lots of room, the was a balcony over looking the garden were you could watch the world go by including some kid goats. Towel were replaced twice a day if needed, as was the shower gel shampoo etc. In the evening you bed was turned down and the mosquito net put in place. There was a good choice at breakfast with the usual omelette point to order. The staff were exceptional and could not do enough for you. There is a shuttle bus which will take and bring you back from town, they will also take you to your restaurant and pick you up. I would highly recommend this hotel.

This wonderful well-managed hotel that consists of 32 bedrooms is located in a lovely garden with an infinity pool and a spa in the middle of the grounds. We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed both the relaxation and ambiance-not forgetting the superb cuisine both at breakfast and dinner on the outside terrace. In conclusion the best hotel on our tour of Indochina.

I have been fortunate to stay at many fine hotels around the world. I now count La Residence as amongst one of the best. Why? It is true that it is beautiful ,with super comfortable rooms, appointed in understated elegance of old Indochine. But what makes a hotel great is the human element when the staff constantly go above and beyond the service expected of them. That perhaps is the magic of this hotel. The people. Not only is the service impeccable, but their interaction is charming. They are learning English so they will ask questions about you and tell you about themselves. They seem to take mental note of your likes and preferences. I recall calling for breakfast and the young lad said, "same as yesterday?" I was traveling with an injury from skiing and needed to do exercises several times a day. I mentioned it and a yoga mat was delivered to my room. Ah, and the spa's masseur rivaled my physical therapist in London. I actually find the "creaking" of the exquisite teak floors a charming part of the colonial ambience of the hotel. I had asked for and received an extremely quiet room. I don't believe anyone was under or next to me to be bothered by the creaking. In brief, then, I found the hotel faultless, everyday, in every way.
We stayed at the Belmond in Luang Prabang as part of a five country vacation. The service is outstanding. The pool is beautiful and the attendant greeted us with fruit and a cool drink. We absolutely loved a couples massage in their tranquil setting. They offer a free shuttle hourly to the night market.
