Unique gem overlooking Vieux Lyon

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

This is one of the most exquisite places we have stayed. The atmosphere of the hotel is incredibly tranquil, particularly because it is converted from an old chapel. The personnel is exceptionally friendly and helpful. The restaurant is lucky to have a very talented chef. Views from the hill over the old town are fabulous. We will make sure we come and stay at the Villa regularly

Wonderful five star stay in five star hotel.

We have had the good fortune to stay here many times. We love the atmosphere and the location. It is set high above the old town. The views are spectacular. It is a short drive down to the old town. If you love to walk and are young, you can walk down there. The staff there is really special. They treat us like we really are special. Nothing is too much trouble for them The general manager Emanuel, has a professional staff whose focus is be very helpful. Anne Christensen is warm and friendly and makes it a big part of her job to take care of making your stay very special. The concierge team which includes, Quentin, Elioz and Nicolas, have been amazing. They meet all our needs quickly and precisely. Opening taxi door. Arranging taxis. Taking care of getting packages shipped. Suggesting great restaurants. Making reservations at those restaurants. The receptionists, Diana, Caroline,Kevin, Elio, Emilie, Loick, Moreno and Richard. They have all been perfect at their job of taking care of our needs. Claire is a wonderful masseuse. She asks what kind of massage you would like and then delivers. She is a big part of why we stay here. I had massages for 2 hours each of four days. She has been the best masseuses that I have ever had. Not only is she great, she is very warm and friendly. The room that we stayed is large and very comfortable. The pillows are soft as I had asked for. There is a small refrigerator which is kept stocked with still and sparkling water. I have written a separate review of the restaurant, Les Terrasse de Lyon which is on premises. I believe it gets one Michlin Star. Well deserved. Please read my review which is likely to make you want to eat there. I feel like I have forgotten to mention other wonderful people and things that make Villa Florentine very special. This is our home away from home when we come to Lyon.

Best Hotel in the City - By a LONG WAY

The hotel is truly exceptional - the location, service and staff we're absolutely amazing! There was not a single thing that could have been handled more professionally - from reserving a cab, making a dinner reservation, accommodating any changes, or anything else!

Unmatched Service

We spent 3 nights in two rooms at Villa Florentine just before Easter. What a marvelous hotel. The attention to detail and the personal level of service was beyond expectation. The hotel is beautiful. The lobby area is a great place to get drinks, and if you visit later in the year, you would be able to take advantage of having a drink outside looking down towards the old town and the skyline of Lyon. This is the kind of hotel where they will make a note when you leave the hotel on the morning and for dinner, and your room will be cleaned without any inconvenience to you. At night the housekeeping will leave little surprises on your bed. Our rooms were on the top floor looking out over the whole of Lyon towards to old town and made the 240 steps up from the town worth it every single time. The weather was not the best, but we still made use of the pool, the sauna, and especially the heated marble chairs was a hit. Even in very cold weather a robe was enough to keep you warm. The pool was heated for swimming and not lounging, so just be aware of that if that is your thing, but if you kept active the pool war really nice to do a few laps in. Being an older hotel, one of very few issues we had was with the hot water. It really took forever to get it warm, but we took that as being part of the charm of being right at the top of the hotel. We only had breakfast once. The breakfast was served at the mezzanine, and was quite nice with quality items, but unfortunately the crepes and the poached eggs (almost hardboiled) came out very cold. We thought it was probably due to the restaurant being under renovation and they had to do with what they got, but we decided that we would eat at some of the great brunch places in Lyon the next couple of mornings and we did not complain, so it would be unfair to take away from the rating, as we did not give them a chance to rectify it.
