Reviews for Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel

Machu Picchu retreat

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Beautiful hotel near Machu Picchu but away from the busy areas. Peaceful. The warm spa “ponds” (think hot tub without chlorine and massaging jets) are fantastic after climbing up to Machu Picchu. Not many vegan options - if you’re lucky to get George in the dining room he will help with modifications though.

Experience depends on the room

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Your stay here is entirely based on the room they give you. On the website, one would conclude all the rooms are these hugely spacious, bright and glassy suites with sitting areas to relax - they are not. Attached in the picture of the bunker they passed for our room. There was barely enough room to move around the bed, very little view and a window above the bed into which an outside light flooded though all night. The website is very misleading, so check the room before unpacking. That said, the hotel is located in the perfect spot with expansive grounds and a villa layout (unless they give you the back room attached to a villa). It is nestled into the natural hills and jungle and is well maintained. The spa is the shining star of the property. A wonderful oasis with incredibly competent masseurs who are well versed in what is needed after a long trek across the Andean Mountains. On the down side, the food is mediocre at best with the dinner and breakfast being just Ok. Its not bad, but not the best the area has to offer. On top of that, be prepared to wait if you order. Eggs at breakfast were running 15-20 minutes. Lastly, it is located directly on the train tracks and trains run from 5:30ish to 11:00pm. The noise and vibrations are not terribly intrusive, but you definitely feel and hear them, so if you are a light sleeper, they will wake you. Service is very good. When I pointed out that they have given me a closet for a room, they did show me another that had three beds, but no more "area" per se, so it was not worth packing up all our stuff and moving. They were very gracious and tried to help, but the hotel was full and there was just simply nothing to give. In the end, they comp'd our spa visit.

Expensive, dirty and neglected. Food not recommended

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

We stay for one night at Incaterra, coming back from Machu Picchu. They told me, they give us an upgrade. The room smells smoky, bathroom was dirty, I guess nobody clean the shower since the last 10 years. The bed was humid so we ask for towels to put above. We ask for trout for diner and it takes around 2 minutes. The trout was dry, overcooked and the salad sauce was just Balsamico whitout oil and the salad was not enough. Under the breakfast tables were the rest of food from the diner. The pool was dirt and the empty beer bottles from the day before were at the pool. I wouldn’t say nothing if the price were US 200 for the night but I pay US 600. It’s like a joke. I definitely could not recommend this hotel

There's Better Places than This!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

We have absolutely no idea why this place gets good ratings. While the exterior garden are amazing, perhaps they should try just running it as a garden--since that what they seem to really take care of. Poor rooms, furnishing and hardly anything worked including the shower. Apparently they were redoing some rooms while we were there (so maybe in another time or space it could be better). But they placed in a room just over another room being redone. We were very unhappy. Two stars because the breakfast was pretty good.

Should have been excellent, but wasn't.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

These were my people. Focused on being a top eco retreat, shampoo is provided in refillable glass bottles, plastic keycards are replaced with real keys, and a 6:30 birdwatching session was excellent. However, I got hardly any sleep on what turned out to be the worst night of our trip. They are so eco-minded that they do not light the pathways to the bungalows where the rooms are. In the evenings and in the early morning it is pitch black, slippery and a true hazard. The bathroom is equally poorly lit, although our cell phones provided extra light. Despite the dark walkways, (or perhaps because of them) the neighboring bungalows kept their outside lights on until late. Since the only drapes on the windows are the thinnest white cotton drape, they glowed brightly all night. Then upon climbing into bed, I realized that one of the nearby rooms was using the wood fireplace, causing smoke to hang in the humid air aggravating my asthma. After it cleared sometime after midnight, I became aware that the humidity and lack of A/C caused the pillows and sheets to have a distinctly musty smell. There was no way to sleep in this hotel, even though I was exhausted after the day. I would not return if they gave me a free stay. Breakfast wasn't that great, either.
