Reviews for Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel

Peaceful oasis in Aguas Calientes.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel is the perfect Andean escape—an oasis of calm just five minutes from the lively town of Aguas Calientes. The town itself doesn’t offer much beyond shops and restaurants (the real star is, of course, Machu Picchu), but the hotel feels like its own magical world tucked into lush cloud forest and backed by dramatic mountain views. We stayed three nights so we could experience two different tours of Machu Picchu, both absolutely fantastic. In hindsight, we would have transferred back to the Sacred Valley on the third night—but staying at Inkaterra certainly made the decision a close call! Accommodation is in individual casitas scattered through the forest. Ours was spacious, rustic in the best possible way, and came with a great bathroom. Thoughtful touches like hot water bottles and evening treats made it feel wonderfully cozy after long days of exploring. Breakfast and dinner are included, and both were excellent. Dinner is à la carte with plenty of delicious options, and the complimentary afternoon tea was a fantastic pick-me-up after hiking around Machu Picchu all morning. The setting—surrounded by greenery and birdsong—made every meal feel special. One of the highlights of the property is its nature trails. We joined the tea and orchid tour with one of the hotel’s interesting & informed guides, which was superb. With over 370 native orchid species and three tranquil ponds surrounded by loungers and seating, the grounds truly feel like a botanical sanctuary. It’s the perfect place to unwind far from the bustle of Aguas Calientes. The Inkaterra experience begins the moment you step off the train: friendly staff greet you, handle your luggage, and walk you to the hotel. And it ends with the same level of care as they escort you back, help with check-in, and send you off with warm smiles. Every staff member we met was helpful, thoughtful, and genuinely welcoming. A wonderful experience from start to finish. Well done—and thank you—Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel!

Very poor management and customer experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Great property and location, but very poor management experience The hotel looks beautiful and is in a great location, but unfortunately my experience was far from pleasant. First, the room linens were not clean, which was disappointing for a property of this level. Second, the management created a very stressful situation for my family. A day before check-in, the hotel contacted me on WhatsApp and proactively offered to add an extra bed for my kids at no additional charge. Because of train delays, we could only check in around 9:45 PM. The staff member who checked us in confirmed again that the extra bed was added free of cost. However, within five minutes another staff member came and insisted they had to charge for the extra bed and added another $170 to my bill. This was completely opposite to what was communicated earlier and felt very unprofessional. The hotel also advertises free dinner, but because the kitchen was about to close when we arrived, they told us they would compensate by including lunch for the next day. But the next day during lunchtime, they suddenly refused and said it was not possible. Because of limited time before my train and having young kids with me, I had no time to find another restaurant, and we had to leave back to Cusco with my kids hungry. Overall, despite the nice property, the lack of clear communication, sudden extra charges, and broken promises made the stay very stressful. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and improves their guest experience.

Unusual but good quality hotel.

An unusual hotel. Rooms are in small chalets located within the jungle grounds. Charming, yes, but lighting and signage could be better and it is a real pain when it rains. Bar staff were a bit brusque and an unexpected charge for environmental protection was added onto the bill at the end. Most guests would be delighted that the hotel donates money to this excellent cause but it should be included explicitly in the charges quoted. Other than that, it was a lovely hotel and offered a very high quality standard of dining.

Good hotel near Machu Pichu

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We stayed for one night and had a lovely stay. The room was large and clean, the bed comfortable, and the shower had great water pressure. The rooms are separate from the lobby and require walking through the gardens with your suitcases. The gardens are nice, with many flowers and birds even in fall, but the walk may be difficult if you have mobility issues, especially when it rains. The restaurant was good overall, though the menu translation in English wasn't accurate for the dinner dish my dad ordered, and service was very slow at dinner. The hotel offers guided tours of the gardens included in the rate. We took the general tour and the guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. It is an easy walk to the bus stop to go to/from Machu Pichu, as well as the train station.

A wonderful peaceful oasis in this busy town at the bottom of buses to Machu Picchu. If you want peace this is it; excellent food and incredible grounds.
