The 2nd Best Hotel in Aguas After the Belmond at the Entrance of Machu Picchu

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 22 hours ago

Visited for my birthday in late April 2024 and it was a magical experience. The hotel is situated across the river in Agua Calientes set amongst the trees. You really feel like you are in the jungle but at a five star resort. You have to cross one of two bridges to enter or exit the hotel and it really feels like it’s its own little oasis. The rooms are bungalow style and are quite large with fireplaces. Breakfast and dinner is covered in your stay and everyone eats in the same dining hall down near the river. They have two heated pools and one non-heated and also have a spa. The only part that we didn’t like is they ask that you throw away your toilet paper instead of flushing it, which is new for Westerners. The idea of throwing away used toilet paper in a trashcan was not my favorite part, but I can deal with almost anything when I am traveling. I would say this is by far the best hotel in Aguas Calientes, after the Belmond right at the entrance of Machu Picchu, however, it is twice as expensive as Inkaterra. The third best option would be Sumaq. We were lucky enough to get a light rainstorm shortly after getting into our room for the night on day one and it was the best sleep soundtrack I have heard in a long time. All the orchids, flora, and fauna surrounding our room really made it a magical experience. I would suggest to anyone traveling to Machu Picchu, especially anyone who appreciates a unique five star hotel.

Some of the best hospitality service in the industy!

I want to "THANK" José Koechlin von Stein for having the vision to start "eco" Inkaterra and big shout out to "ALL" the staff at Inkaterra Machu Picchu. We have travel the world and Inkaterra M.Picchu team are some of the best! To the front staff, Nohely & Laura no question was ever a problem. To Fernando, our concierge who is one of the most detail planners/organizers I have ever met. He ensured that we received the most out of our three night stay. Will was our guide to Machu Picchu and private guide of the gardens. Will is a encyclopedia of local flora and fauna. We enjoyed our time with him. The food and wait staff provided some of the best restaurant /hospitality service!!!! Their chef has got it going on. Every dish was delicious and presentation beautiful. The bar staff were happy to make the Pico Sours. Diego and the rest of the wait staff were always taking care of the us and the rest of the guests. Well done DIEGO, you went above and beyond!!!! Spa team was good. We were impressed that the support staff including the gardening team were all so polite, professional and always welcoming when one passed by. The manager should be proud of their team which went out of their way to ensure my husband and I had a great and relaxing visit. Well done and we wish you all the best! Keep up the good work. We highly recommend and will return someday.

3rd Stop, Machu Pichu

Lovely hotel set in deep undergrowth adjacent to the river. You have to walk to the hotel from the station as there are no roads to it. The rooms are set in bungalows that are spaced out around the grounds, your bags will be taken to your rooms. There are many walks around the grounds for you to enjoy. The room was spacious and the bathroom small, albeit both were well maintained and spotless. The bed was large and very comfortable with nice linen. The bathroom was all marble, small but adequate with a nice shower. Breakfast was vast and had a lot of choice, set in lovely surroundings above the gushing river. The staff here were friendly and helpful, I feel this will be the best hotel if staying in the village and you are visiting Machu Pichu. It provides a lovely stay.

Amazing scenery, amazing amenities, amazing services and amazing staff. One of my top hotel stays. Jorge at the restaurant was absolutely fantastic. We got massages as well and they rank among the best we’ve ever had. Truly amazing. Highly recommend.

Unique and well situated

Had two rooms for two nights. Great location (away from the crowds but close to the action) with lots of character. Solid food and service. Not a fan of outside tour groups occupying the restaurants (noise and congestion), but I get it. Privacy is a bit of an issue given the proximity of the walkways to the guestroom windows. Given it's situated in a rainforest, with lots of moisture/humidity, some spaces smell a little musty (like lobby area) and could do with additional cleaning/maintenance. Overall, a compelling place.
