Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel in Machu Picchu, Peru
The mythical lost city of the Incas, Machu Picchu lay hidden for centuries high in the lush forests of the Peruvian Andes. Today it has been declared one of the World's 7 Wonders, and now visitors have a decidedly civilized option for intrepid exploration to this stunning archeological wonder and UNESCO Natural, Cultural and Worldwide Heritage of Humanity. The Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel opened in 2007 with Incan grandeur and incomparable comfort, welcoming guests into a landscape that is as mysterious as it is filled with the echoes of ancient cultures. Beyond privileged access to one of the world's most famous and hard to reach ruins, the Sumaq Hotel offers exquisite comfort, warm service, delectable Peruvian cuisine and a spa that brings together relaxation treatments from around the world - all to help add your story to this ancient city of myths.
Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel sits in a natural landscape surrounded by lush forests and steep hillsides, and seems as hidden as Machu Picchu itself. With sixty luxurious rooms, decorated with Incan style and modern comfort in mind, guests are privy to stunning views and tranquil spaces. The hotel can arrange for tours of the archeological ruins, including transportation and onsite guides, making your exploration about true discovery, rather than trekking alone. Once back from the Incan trail, seek refuge at the Aqlla Spa, where a combination of modern luxury and ancient Inca techniques are dedicated to the body and the mind. Then dine overlooking the Urubamba River from the terrace at Qunuq Restaurant, where fine international dishes, Peruvian fusion cuisine and regional dishes are served.

Reviews for Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel
First time in a bougie hotel like this. If you don't like the bugs coming into the room through the balcony doors that don't seal you can fumigate your room with a Raid air freshener. No thanks. Sauna and hot tub are private and must be reserved about $35/hour over the already exorbitant rate of the room. Besides these two things the staff are annoyingly attentive but not for positive things. I am constantly asked what room number I am in and was even chased when I left to catch a bus without informing them. I felt like a convict on temporary leave from prison.
This is a very nice 5 star hotel in an area where luxury is unexpected. The staff were very attentive. The rooms were large and comfortable with all the amenities you would expect from this level of hotel. Our room looked right out over the river, so you could hear the soft rush of water when the drapes were open ... very soothing. Dinner was included in the rate, and it was extremely good with multiple options for each course. Breakfast was also excellent. We only spent one night, but it was a pleasant relaxing place after walking extensively around Machu Picchu. Highly recommended.

I stayed here for one night in early May just prior to visiting Machu Picchu. From the moment I arrived my every need was catered for and it is one of these hotels where you actually don't want to leave the premises ( despite being in a bucket list location!). Having the afternoon to myself I took advantage of the Pisco Sour and Ceviche making session in the bar and both were the best examples of each I had tried in Peru. I then moved onto afternoon tea and my gluten free request was promptly catered for. On returning to my room there was a cheese platter awaiting me. Dinner much later that night was exceptional and upon hearing that I would be departing at 4:30am the following morning , informed me that they would prepare a gluten free breakfast box and have it waiting for me at checkout. My room was divine and looked out across the river. It was a truly wonderful stay and I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Agua Calientes.

Excellent hotel at base of mountain. Beautiful common areas, excellent restaurant and lounge. Fantastic rooms with views of raging river. Definitely recommend for those who desire a higher end experience.

Perfect location. Easy to navigate from the Machu Picchu buses and to the Peruvian train station. Hotel was immaculate. Had tea, pisco sours at the bar, and dinner included with our reservation so everything was incredibility wonderful. One of the best dinners we had while in Peru and their ceviche was awesome! Hotel staff was beyond accommodating. We were able to check out but leave our bags with them while we explored Machu Picchu the next morning. I would not stay anywhere else. Will recommend to future friends and family!
