Reviews for Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel

Felt so Spoiled.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Group trip w co-workers. Felt absolutely SPOILED by this property. Everyone was wonderful from start to finish. The only downfall was the train ran right behind my room, but it didn't deter me too much. From the welcome in, to every meal and service it was impeccable and everyone was wonderful. The dining on site was impeccable and unbeatable! Our train was delayed upon arrival and the restaurant stayed open late for us and gave us a full service! No one seemed put out by it. They were very kind and we were very grateful. Location is very nice, right across from the river. The city is alot of fun and very safe. I don't think I could stay anywhere else if I ever return. Much thanks to them.

Ask for Sadith for amazing massage :)

Okay so we all agree this place is magical. You either get a beautiful flowers and train view or the roaring river. I loved the area and the staff was so friendly. Got a amazing massage from Sadith !! Give that girl a raise. She was the best. And I felt amazing after.

The jacuzzi bath was a great addition - revitalising after a day exploring the Inca Ruins

A well appointed hotel with spacious rooms which are very comfortable. Especially liked the jacuzzi - great for revitalising sore legs and feet after long days visiting Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley etc. Great location. Restaurant food good. Staff very attentive & helpful.

A luxury highland experience!

SUMAQ was amazing! We stayed for 3 nights, and it is truly the best hotel in Aguas Calientes. The staff met us at the train station to carry our things on the 10-minute walk to the hotel. The front desk staff had a refreshing fruit drink waiting for us as we entered, and led us sit and briefly meeting with our Machu Picchu guide who was taking us up the mountain the next morning. The rooms are spacious with a beautiful view of the river and the mountains. The rooms had plug-in bug repellents because they are in the highlands of Peru and there are flying insects. The plug-ins worked because we only saw one flying “gnat” during our stay. All staff members were professional and quickly addressed our needs (like extra towels, and a rotating fan for our room). We chose the option to have breakfast and dinner included with our stay. The breakfast buffet had great food and fresh fruit, they also made eggs and omelettes to order. Dinner included a 3 course meal with different choices each night. We were exhausted after our Machu Picchu hike and opted to have our dinner brought to our room that night—the concierge brought us the dinner menu, we called in our 3 courses, and dinner was to our room in 20 minutes. The spa was equally as great! The facilities were very clean and the staff were professional and polite. My massage therapist Sadith was wonderful! She gave a perfect deep tissue massage with cinnamon tea afterwards. It was a great experience and I will definitely return! Alexia and the other front desk staff made check-in and check-out easy. I highly recommend this hotel: I give it 10 stars! The SUMAQ (which means “good” in Quechuan) Hotel is worth the money for a luxury stay in the mountains!

Best hotel in Aguas Calientes with the best people

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

My wife and I returned to CA yesterday, having checked out from SUMAQ the day before, and I wanted to write this review while our stay is fresh in my mind. Aguas Calientes is an amazing little town at the base of Machu Picchu and SUMAQ has got to be the best hotel in town. Before our stay began we were already treated with friendliness, graciousness, and hospitality. Jean Pierre there was super friendly and attentive and arranged for a personal tour with a guide and shaman to Machu Picchu for my wife and I (which was amazing!). He also arranged for our travel from and to Ollantaytambo. I wish I knew the names of all employees there because they are all so wonderful, but the only other name I got was Faustino in the restaurant who was also wonderful. The lobby and bar are immediately impressive as soon as you walk in from the street. Check in was quick and we were shortly in our room. Our room was large and beautiful and, despite being right on the road, was quiet from road noise; vehicles don't really travel there at night, but you will hear them during the daytime. The sound of the Urubamba River was exceptional, right across the road, and very soothing. There is a hotel at the top of the mountain and right next to Machu Picchu but we were so glad to have stayed at SUMAQ. It offers you so much more flexibility, the absence of tourists up there, and so close to the markets, restaurants, square, and train station. It has a beautiful view of the river and mountains, and a short walk down the road from the hotel will give you views of Machu Picchu up on the mountain. The food and service were all top-notch and we would not hesitate to stay at this wonderful hotel again and again.
