Belmond Reid's Palace

This is the 5th time of staying at Belmont Reid's Hotel, we decided to go this September to celebrate my 75th birthday, and to have Tea on the famous Terrace, which we have done before, and is always so lovely. To be honest we have always had a wonderful holiday at Reid's, the staff are absolutely wonderful, so friendly and helpful. Whatever the accommodation we have had, it has always been very good, the pool is wonderful for swimming, with wonderful views and great service at poolside for food and drink. I have to say the breakfast is amazing with so much choice, you can even have a glass of champagne if you can drink that early in the morning. For us it was just so lovely to see Lucia again, Lucia meets you as you go into breakfast, she remembered us from when we were last there in 2018, which was so lovely. The chaps at the entrance to the Hotel, are just so helpful, if you need to find out about anything they will sort it out for you. A special thank you to Alexandros and Gilberto for all their help ad advice. Hopefully we will be back at some point again soon. It's a wonderful Hotel, with loads of history to it, if you want an ultra modern Hotel, this would not be for you, but if you want old fashion glamour, a Hotel with a History that goes back to about 1891 then please give it a try.

William restaurant outstanding. Cipriani disappointing and plenty of good restaurants close by. If you want peace get a room that avoids refurbishment work going on the 5th floor. Talk to the concierge team, they are really helpful. Would definitely stay here again if we came back.

Leaving aside the incredible location, and a place that oozes in history from every room & garden. The staff from housekeeping to GM from Pool side to restaurants, enjoy making your visit an unforgettable pleasure. An experience not to be missed.

Reid’s afternoon tea- lacked the special occasion lustre . Service was intermittent in attentiveness , although good when present. Food was ok , not the best. We have had afternoon tea’s at F&M , Savoy and Ivy. Any would surpass this. We couldn’t benefit from the view as although a couple , we were seated on a table for four at the back. You get 90 minutes to eat which is not enough time , particularly as we had to have our tea order replaced when the order was mixed up and waited for a service for a refill. The staff are not subtle in expressing it is time for you to leave (although pressed upon by stuffy management) Overall disappointed. Judge by your own experience but our tip would be, save your money and use for a friendlier Madeira outing! Love the island and shall return , unfortunately not to here for tea.
