Belmond Reid's Palace

For many years now,each time my wife and I have visited Madeira, we have enjoyed cocktails on the terrace (I should make it clear that we have never stayed at Reid's and this is not of a review of an hotel stay). The last time we were here was September 2021 and it was as good as ever. This time however, (September 2026), things had changed. It was not possible to have drinks on the terrace as it is now used for afternoon tea and in any event has apparently to be pre-booked. We were able though to find a small isolated outdoor area with one table. The next disappointment was the choice of cocktails. No longer are the regulars on the menu - there were 6 or 7 concoctions which presumably are the hotel's own, none of which we had ever heard of. We both chose a cocktail which sounded interesting; it was not large but did have a very large piece of ice in it, which presumably was an attempt to make it look more than it was. We frankly felt ripped off and sadly, will not be returning.

First class experience all the way both for the island and for the venue and staff at Reid's. Can't recommend more highly.

Beautiful would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an exceptional experience. The staff and was wonderful and the food was delicious.

This is a fantastic hotel and one we have visited last year, the service is everything you expect and more from this hotel group. We look forward to exploring more of the Belmond hotels.

**A Beautiful Hotel** What a beautiful hotel. It was expensive, but we felt it was worth it. The hotel has a wonderful atmosphere and a fantastic setting, and you can really see why it has such a great reputation. I’m sure there are better hotels in the world, but I have never stayed in one! The staff were all fantastic, very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The breakfasts were superb, with a great choice, and lunch at the poolside restaurant was also very good. We also visited Villa Cipriani, which has a wonderful position overlooking the hotel. The service was great, but we thought the food was just OK. The meal we had at Brisa do Mar, however, was outstanding. Overall, we had a fantastic stay at Reid’s Palace and would love to return.
