Hotel Hospes Puerta de Alcala

Wonderful boutique hotel located across from the El Retiro park and puerto alcala monument. Room was wonderfully appointed, comfortable beds, soaker tub, dual vanity, etc. Staff was friendly and efficient. Location was within 15-20 minute walk of major landmarks (Prado and Reina Sofia museums, central shopping district, Royal Palace was probably an extra 5-10 minutes beyond that, etc). There was some construction going on with an adjoining building and also across the street with roadwork yet didn’t hear a thing so rooms are well insulated. Would stay again.

I was here for three nights at the beginning of March. The hotel is in a very good location, close to Retiro Park and close to the historic center (walkable). The hotel is located in a kind of former palace and the atmosphere is romantic - luxurious. Rooms are very large for Madrid, with very comfortable beds. Extremely clean and with excellent service. There is a very good restaurant with an outside terrace and with very reasonable prices. The hotel rates were also very good. My room faced some sort of courtyard and was very quiet. I recommend it, but I want to note that the access from the airport by taxi is very easy and fast.

We booked a Dreamer room for 3 nights but there were no taps for the bathroom sink, just a sensor under the spout which only provided a short burst of cold water (see pic) so you had to continually hold your hand under the spout to get a flow of water. The sink had no plug. The toilet and bathroom area had no doors to separate them from the bedroom (ok if you like to hear and smell your partner defecating). After the first night we asked for a change of room which was better (the toilet had a frosted glass door). The room info shows you pictures which suggest a Dreamer room bathroom has two sinks. Neither room we used had two sinks and neither room had a plug for the sink. Otherwise the rooms were well designed and spacious with very comfortable beds. There seemed to be no separate service lift so you were waiting a long time for the lift while room cleaning staff moved their trolleys and equipment from floor to floor. The staff were very pleasant (apart from a surly Receptionist) and the location is excellent. If you book this hotel you might want to call ahead to check on the sink and toilet door arrangement if those things are important to you.

The staff here absolutely make the Hotel, you feel like a member of a family, nothing is to much trouble ! Ilia and Manual are there for you and so informative on what to do and how to get there! I could not have been in. Better hands They have a lovely open air restaurant literally in front of the hotel! With large overlapping umbrellas you are well protected from the rain or sun, they also have outdoor heaters incase you are a bit cool! The menu is small, however everyone is catered for, The wine list is good. The lovely waitress Alina makes you feel like a long lost friend and makes sure every whim is catered for . A truly beautiful and lovely hotel right in the middle of Madrid and walking distance to all the sights!
