Elegant room, wonderfully crisp sheets, luxurious bathroom, knowledgeable and helpful concierge, refined terrace/garden drinks and dining... what more do you want from a classic hotel. We also loved the location, which is steps away from the Prado Museum, the Thyssen, and the Retiro park. Wish we could have stayed longer.

We had a recent weekend stay here that started badly, we had to change rooms at 3am, but it was dealt with,at the time, and since our return, very politely and efficiently with compensation. (See room tips) This alone deserves 5 stars. Location is perfect and breakfast on the terrace each morning was amazing. We also ate at the Goya restaurant , again on the terrace, which was excellent. To return after a very hot days sightseeing to a drink in the garden area was delightful. Service from everyone was friendly and professional. We stayed in a superior room which was fine for us as we weren't in it for long. Yes, the bathrooms in particular need updating but this is being addressed. Housekeeping was excellent , the rooms spotless. Overall, a wonderful stay and we felt very well looked after.

Worst hotel. Not even exaggerating. Don't get me wrong, the hotel is nice on the outside, but the rooms are very outdated. Besides the low class service they offer at their restaurants, they treated us horribly. Our room has the air vents faced toward our bed. We have air blowing into our faces all night, their AC are not like American, they keep blowing air no matter what degrees and needs you to manually turn it on or off. The restaurant has overpriced food and the rudest service. One of us hit our foot on their concrete step, his toe bled for about half an hour. We asked ONLY for cream to put on the cut because we had bandaids and the rest. Upon checkout, they charged us 30 euros for one cream and a bunch of other unnecessary items that we didn't ask for. I told the front desk manager ALVARO MARZAL that we did not use these NOR did we ask for them so why should I pay for 30 euros?! He responds so unprofessionally and says he will call the police if we don't pay. What kind of a hotel manager or even a "high" class hotel would say that to a guest. I would NOT recommend this hotel at all. They have NO POOL, no service, and not worth the price at all. I RECOMMEND THE WESTIN PALACE hotel across the street, with much better options. I did not expect any of this especially at a RITZ. This is NOT a RITZ at all. We had a horrible time and the way we were treated the entire 4 days was outrageous. I don't know if all the people in Madrid are like this but this hotel was unacceptable. Very poor management. I tried contacting the general manager and Alvaro Marzal refused saying he is at home and would not give me the number.

Madrid has quite a few super deluxe hotels now but the Ritz is still very special. The location is outstanding and the entire staff is extremely polished, professional and very accomodating. There is a very warm spirit throughout. The hotel is still very beautiful and elegant. Lunch in the garden was lovely.

This hotel welcomes guests regally and makes sure that everything is close to perfect. I had a deluxe room that was huge, elegant and in perfect condition. The room location overlooking their garden and restaurant is second choice; the same room overlooking the Prado is more interesting though both have great natural light. Breakfast is sumptuous, room service is excellent. They have a great chef whose dishes, like cherry gazpacho and skewered crispy shrimp, can be memorable. The hotel is closing in January for a renovation which I hope will not change its classic character.
