This hotel has it all - a beautiful and architecturally significant building, large and well-appointed rooms with a view, great breakfast with hot and cold options, a fantastic location that’s walkable to many of Madrids’s premier sites and restaurants, a very clean and well-maintained property in all aspects, and finally a top-notch staff who gave us impeccable service at every level including reception, door service, breakfast service, and housekeeping - they are a warm and friendly staff who are highly trained professionals and truly care about guest experience. This was one of our best hotel stays in Europe, and we’ve stayed at many outstanding European hotels.

Lovely facility, room had a lot of character, friendly service. Double barrel ceiling in the room. Only a shower (no bathtub -- but wonderful rain spout).

This is lovely hotel in a good location (8minute walk to Gran Via). We had a king size deluxe room which was smaller than what i would have expected for the additional cost (not sure if worth the extra). We had a street view with a balcony grill. The bed was very comfortable. The Breakfast was continental and a good variety. A special shout out to Yossette, who was the friendliest and attentive waitress at breakfast. The hotel is built on an old palace site, although you may not realise this unless you stumble behind the reception desk to an area with a glass floor, below it remains of the old palace! There is nothing in the hotel that really signposts you to this, which is a shame. I had read that the staff are super friendly and welcoming, I didn't really feel that, but this could be due to the language barrier. The concierge on the first night not as helpful as the one we met later in the week. The rooms were generally clean but for a five star hotel the housekeeping could be better (bathroom could be cleaner) and it seemed to be erratic on days, they did not remove used plates and a welcome platter of fresh cakes and had been left for 4 days! Water was replaced but then no glasses, the towels were not soft - these little things make a difference and you expect better for a 5 star hotel. Overall it was a pleasant stay and served our purpose but there are some things that could be improved when you think you are getting a 5 star hotel.
