An overpriced rustic finca? Yes! - A luxury retreat? NOT AT ALL!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 8 months ago

I think it is important to make a few things clear. The hotel is an old rustic finca in Mallorca - NOT a "Luxury Retreat". I mean NOT AT ALL! Two good things upfront: The garden is very nice and the views into the valley to the sea are beautiful. That's the upside. When we arrived it was difficult to get up to the hotel at all since the "street" or better "way" is in very bad condition. It is important you don't have a big car because it is almost impossible to get to the hotel in a big limousine or something similar. Ideally it is a Jeep or at least a small car. Parking is very difficult as well because all the ways are very tight. The entrance hall was so full of luggage and people - it was difficult to even get in. Obviously the farewell breakfast of a marriage was still going on what I understand. The rooms are so tiny that it was hard to put the luggage somewhere. The "bathroom" was so small that I let the door open to not feel like in a cave. I have no clue where the 4-star-rating comes from. Because the house is badly soundproofed you can hear in detail what is happening in the neighbouring rooms which may or may not be interesting. There is an a-la-carte restaurant in the cellar of the hotel which looks romantic due to the old oil-mill which is integrated in the interior. As it was raining we had some water coming through openings in the wall. Apart from this the food was good - however NOT worth the prices. Obviously the owners take advantage of the isolated position of the finca - it takes you at least 10 minutes by car to get to Soller. Since the restaurant is closed on Mondays you are offered a platter of ham and cheese in the evening - interesting for a "luxury retreat". The breakfast itself was good - however, the room was very dark with a huge table - the feeling was a little special since none of the people on this huge table knew each other and also did not try to change it. We wanted to leave the hotel immediately since it was obviously not fulfilling any of the created expectations. We were told that the owners have a very strict non-refund-policy. I tried to convince them - however I failed to do so. The concept is clear that earning money is more important than customer satisfaction which is also a clear position even if I don't like it. So we spent the whole day in Palma just returning to sleep and leave for the airport in the early morning. We will defininitely not come back!

Best stay ever!

Best hotel visit in my life! This hotel really lives up to all standards + so much more. Location and rooms are beautiful. Only recommendation I’ve got is to add breakfast into your stay as there’s no stores nearby. I would definitely go here again!!

Food and location close to heaven

Stunning food in an equally stunning location. Superb service . Not sure what else to add . A long and winding road to this slice of Mallorcan heaven is well worth the effort. The Duck Cannoli was stunning and the chicken croquettes simply the best ever.

Don't do it

If you are in between choosing this hotel because the picture-perfect backdrop in the photos are beautiful, but you’re not convinced the hotel is as luxurious as you would expect on a relaxing holiday at this price, don’t book. Book the more expensive hotel with the comfortable bed and breakfast buffet. I promise it will be worth it in comparison to this place. No doubt the hotel is situated beautifully. The garden and terrace is reminiscent of a classical Spanish villa set high with far reaching and colourful views. The problem is the hotel calls itself a ‘Luxury Retreat,’ which it cannot claim. The amenities are scarce, the rooms extremely old fashioned, pokey with no investment made into comfortable bedding or the bed itself. The breakfast is limited and not edible. There is a skeleton staff manning the concierge but other than that, not much else to provide. The hotel provides the bare minimum and relies solely on the views for good reviews and drawing guests. The service was poor and unwelcoming from most (not all). We later realised that the restaurant, which was popular each night, is run separately to the hotel itself. Therefore I cannot comment on the restaurant as we did not eat there but the setting is lovely. It was a bitty, uncomfortable, and underwhelming hotel operation and it falls at a price-range in which its just a bit too much for little when you could pay more for a lot better value.

spectacular

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed October 3, 2022

The garden and setting are honestly spectacular, better than the jardin d'alfabia. We enjoyed the hotel's beauty to the full - except for the pool which was freezing cold. The road up is difficult but we managed it, even in our oversize car (damn Europcar with its upgrade!) The main road is more dangerous, really, with buses coming round the hairpin bends aggressively. We had to come to a sudden stop with the driver's side inches from the bus and got rear ended, but that was better than bus vs. car. You can walk on the well signed path to Soller (two miles) and the other one to Port de Soller. They should market the place as an indulgent night to hikers on the Ruta de Pedra Sec. But they would need something simpler and cheaper on the menu. Drinks on the terrace were superb but the restaurant simply didn't work for us because I don't eat beef and my husband doesn't care for it and is allergic to fish. I'm sure it's good because the breakfast was tasty, but it all looked over complicated to us. We could have asked for a vegetarian option but if you have to ask, it indicates that you're an exception and the chef isn't really into vegetarian food. Service was good. It's an old and wonderful building and they keep it all in good shape. Carina was the best. She really made us feel welcome. And the young male waiters were cheerful. We stayed three nights. I described it as average value for money because it's not cheap and excellent because it's exceptionally beautiful.
