Anantara Veli Maldives Resort in Malé, Maldives

Most of the bungalows at Anantara Veli Maldives Resort hover over the water, the quintessential Maldivian postcard. Like its sister resort, Anantara Dhigu, located a short boat ride away, the laidback atmosphere and top-notch dining options make relaxation a breeze. Veli guests enjoy access to Dhigu’s restaurants and facilities, but this resort is much more intimate. Sip endless daiquiris on a blindingly white beach, or leave the island more complete than you came – yoga classes and holistic spa treatments are designed to nurture body and soul.

Slide off your bungalow’s hardwood deck into the bathwater-warm Indian Ocean. Swim among tropical reef fish, catching glimpses of bright indigo and orange reflected by the sand. Join your beloved for a picnic for two on a deserted island in the lagoon. Don something breezy and beautiful for dinner at 73 degrees, where red snapper sizzles in the open air.

I HIGHLY recommend this experience to everyone with a passion for Life! From the minute you step through customs to the farewell wave from the staff at the departure pontoon you feel like part of a small special family of Anantara professionals. As you exit customs at Male airport you are greeted by a warm smile from Anantara meet & greet staff, your luggage is taken care of and you check in quickly in a lovely lounge. Within 10 minutes, you are escorted to the boat pontoon where you board the comfortable speedboat for the 35 minute transfer. You receive a bottle of water and a lovely lemongrass scented cold towel (the small things in life count). On arrival at the resort, the Manager & staff greet you with drumming and singing, you are greeted by your own personal staff member who looks after you and gets you checked in very quickly. Another cold towel arrives!! Then they personally escort you to your villa explaining the layout of the resort as you go, where the restaurants are and what activities are available. At the villa they show you around, check everything is ok, ask you what pillows you would like and even leave you a personal mobile phone with only their number on it. Your luggage arrives 10 minutes later! The villa we booked was an over water deluxe pool villa and it was amazing. They are spacious, clean, modern and well equipped. As the name suggests, they are over water, and there is direct access from your sundeck into the clear, warm waters of the lagoon. The bathroom is lovely and spacious with plenty of towels. Have a bath whilst watching the sunset set over the island!! The rooms have very effective air-conditioning which is just lovely. And the views from the bed in the morning as the sun rises at 6am is magical. You must get up before 6 one day just for that. Breakfast is a lovely walk away served at the 73 degrees restaurant. The breakfast buffet caters for all nationalities (English, American, Asian, Arabic) and it is an impressive buffet spread with many live cooking stations providing eggs any way you want them, Crepes, waffles etc. You name it and they provide it. There are a total of 8 restaurants available, all serving diverse cuisines to a very high standard. We dined at Baan Hurra, the Thai restaurant and it was amazing, authentic and delicious. We also has in Villa dining, which was served quickly and they set up the table on the balcony so you can dine in private at your own villa looking at Sunset. The most amazing dining experience for us though was the Dining by Design. A must. Your own personal table on the beach in a white linen draped tent with butler and chef. There are many menu options including Seafood, Surf & Turf, Meat BBQ & Vegetarian. You can discuss your preferences with your personal chef and you end up with a fabulously romantic meal for 2 in an idyllic location. It was an amazing end to a magical holiday. I never knew there were so many variant colours of blue! The sky, the sea, the pool; the sun changes the tint almost regularly and it makes for a heavenly location. Now, to the special thing that makes Anantara Veli so exceptional…..The Manager (Julianne) and her wonderful team of world class professionals. They somehow make you feel part of a family. We live in Dubai….full of world class locations with exceptional service……however, you never feel like part of the family in Dubai. The 'Veli smile' seems genuine and the staff seem to have a passion for their work; who wouldn't love working in this wonderful location. Every single member of the team were consistently amazing. Do they read Trip Advisor? Thank you: 1. Mughni - Our personal Butler who was informative and always available. 2. Ishmail - Our room boy who created amazing bed designs. 3. Bokey - The breakfast smile waiter, made the tea seem nicer. 4. Nopia & Amy - Amazing massage at the spa. 5. Chau & Chef Ankit - Our Dining by Design team, made it a night to remember forever. 6. Julianne - The Manager with the best family of professionals.

My husband surprised me for our honeymoon and got 3 glorious days here. The water bungalow was perfect and the staff were amazing. We got free snorkels and also 2 hours kayaking both so much fun and so beautiful. The Maldives is exactly like the brochure absolutely perfect. We had breakfast and Erica looked after us she was lovely. First night went to uragami and mahiid (I think thats spelt right) was so attentive and super friendly and the food was out of this world. The second we went the Thai which was lovely too and last night went to Italian in other island which was also fabulous and great setting. Thank you so much Anantara and Ram for helping us check in and check out we will certainly be back. Becky and Paul

After months of research considering things such as: cost of ferry to and from the main island, activities on the resort, distance from the airport, ratings etc. I was so happy we chose the Anantara resort chain. We selected The Velli resort after (contemplating the more expensive Dhigu) and discovered Dhigu is only a 2 minute ferry ride away. Dhigu rooms appear nicer but our room at Veli was an overwater bungalow which was absolutely fantastic! Veli guests were welcomed to use all the hotel amenities on Dhigu and it was all simply wonderful! All of the restaurants were wonderful (especially the Thai restaurant) and the beaches were absolutely amazing! I'm STILL showing my friends our amazing beach pics despite receiving rain almost every day we were there! The Maldives undoubtedly has some the most pristine beaches we've ever seen and many times despite both resorts being completely full we felt like we had the beaches all to ourselves minus a couple or two strolling holding hands :-) The service was good and everything was clean but just be prepared to spend a LOT on food! Each meal averaged $50 per person (Buffet Breakfast was free and very extensive) and the dinner buffets average $200 per person! Although our stay was prepaid, the hotel will take a deposit based on how much they estimate you'll eat during your stay which can add up pretty quickly if you're there a week or longer...Since there are so many resort to choose, we would probably want to experience another but for almost $600 per night it was definitely a stay we would recommend for first time visitors to the Maldives!!!

DONT LET THE "STATE OF EMERGENCY" CANCEL YOUR TRIP. IT HAS NO EFFECT ON TOURISM IF YOU ARE STAYING AT RESORTS AWAY FROM MALE. We stayed at this resort for 4 days. Feb 12 to feb 15. Very short stay but unfortunately that was our budget. Everything is first class here. Customer service is exceptional. Staff cares for you a lot! We looked at MANY resorts before choosing this one. Other resorts have reviews like, customer service is lacking, resort/hotel is not well maintained or food is not that great. BUT we are so happy we came to Anantara Veli. We enjoyed everything! Loved our villa! Beautiful Resort! We stayed in room 147. it had gorgeous views. Food here is also excellent! They had different themed buffets every night and they were all delicious Gentleman named Bokeh had served us mostly and he treated us like his long lost friends- very generous person and exceptional service. Could not have asked for a better experience! Thank you, Bokeh! We constantly explored 2 other islands. Moyo Island, from where we watched the sun set. Dhigu resort island, which also has restaurants and activities and also provided exceptional services. Shoutout to Marina. She was our guide thru oit snorkeling trip. I was so scared of drowning but she was very patient with me and stayed with me the whole snorkeling trip! Overall, if you are looking for something just for adults and offers exceptional services across the board, then this is your resort! Plus its only half hour speedboat ride away from the airport!

A beautiful resort which they refer to as a paradise island which is a fit description. The accomodation with a lovely bungalow over water, attention to personal details and service by all staff, swimming to die for,and lots of choices with regard to restaurants and sports activities. Only criticism is that the half board option excludes a number of main meal options which limits choice of dishes.
