I've only given Malibu Beach Inn a Very Good rating because it's been refurbished and I liked it better the way it was before. The view is picture perfect, the food served on the patio balcony is expensive but so worth it, and the beach is all yours...meaning you won't have to fight any crowds to take a stroll along the shore. The beach, in fact, is probably the reason we keep going back. Not to mention, Malibu is just a fun place to be. However, as much as I enjoyed my recent visit, I liked the quaintness of before, when you got up in the morning and had a free buffet breakfast that you could enjoy by the fire pit out on the balcony. And in the evenings, a glass of wine by the fire pit was divine. Sadly, the fire pit is no more, but I'll always have the memory. And even though some of the good is in the past, the staff at Malibu Beach Inn treats guests like they really appreciate them. Lovely rooms, great view, relaxed atmosphere. If you're looking to get away from the grind of life, this is where you want to be. But--and this is just me, though I suspect others might feel the same--if a customer is paying for a premium room, don't charge them for parking and give them luxury hair products and lotions. People who fly first class are given first class treatment; isn't it about time hotels do the same?

We stayed at this hotel for two nights on a recent west coast road trip.....big mistake.....we should have booked for longer, but we had pre-booked all of the hotels on this trip and had to move on. What can I say, everything was perfect about this hotel: the location is just heavenly, the service and the room itself, fantastic. We stayed in a ocean front queen (we couldn't get a king), and our balcony overhung the beach. The view and sound of the waves crashing on the beach was simply stunning. The room, the bathroom and toiletries were lovely, the bed so comfortable and luxurious, great coffee machine. The service, from check-in to the beach and valet guys was absolutely faultless. The location on Carbon beach is fantastic. We hadn't pre-booked at neighbouring Nobu, and couldn't get a table, so we ate at the hotel restaurant which overhangs the beach one night, and at the Malibu Farm restaurant at the start of the adjacent Malibu pier on the other night, and both were superb. We hiked in the hills behind the hotel, ran on the beach, sat and watched the surfers on the beach beyond the pier, shopped in the nearby mall which has a fantastic collection of boutiques. Awwwww, I want to go back so much! Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

We stayed at the Malibu Beach Inn during the first weekend of October, and had a great time. The room was spacious and clean, the drinks and food was good, and location was perfect. We spent a day relaxing on the beach, and a day exploring Malibu, and I was very pleased to be staying at the MBI for both. Would have given 5 stars, but I've had two separate, incorrect charges added to my card with no notification, which I've had to follow up on. One was valet (we didn't have a car?), and the second was almost $50 in wine mini bar (I didn't even notice that the room had a mini bar). This was a bit of unexpected trouble, so I would give feedback to the hotel to have a tighter hold on room charges. Otherwise, was a great time!

Can't even explain the beauty of this place. It is a spectacular hotel. The room itself is perfection. Fireplace, great bedding, the porch is right on the Pacific. It is truly a FEAST for your SENSES!!! Such pampering and really great service. The sounds coming from the ocean is just so peaceful to sleep to .. What a fantastic get-a-way!! Truly magical. When we pulled up to valet.. Ben Stein was waiting for his car.. truly classic and was fun to have a celebrity siting.. Buehler. Enjoyed breakfast the next morning.. Great mimosas.. just can't say enough about the beauty of this place. Get ready to sit back and enjoy!!! A splurge for sure. BUT REALLY WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! Will be back!!

This was our first stop on my post retirement California trip on our way to San Francisco and we decided to spare no expense to start on a high Having been persuaded at LA airport to upgrade to a giant white Mercedes GLS , we arrived in style at the valet parking deluding ourselves that we looked rich and cool. I'm sure the 3 uniformed friendly and helpful young men knew the truth but they treated us like Hollywood celebrities. This level of service continued throughout our stay and was remarkably consistent whether desk staff, restaurant team, beach guys or cleaners. Each person was clearly recruited because of their personalities and then trained to deliver. Rarely have we encountered such enthusiasm to ensure all our needs were met while skilfully making us feel special. The room facilities were as one would expect at this price and could not be faulted. The lavatory is worth a mention although rather creepy initially. As one entered the bathroom the seat lifted automatically and the bowl illuminated. An eery experience when half asleep at 3am and 5am as men of a certain age like me require these annoying visits! We never quite mastered the various bidet functions and naturally it's artificial intelligence decided when to flush. All in all it matched the advanced technology in the Mercedes and equally challenging for "seniors" The hotel is built on the beach straddling giant boulders that run out from the shore and create a glorious crashing as each wave hits the beach. Each room overlooks this magnificent spectacle and , if one chooses to leave the balcony doors open, the waves feel as if they are about to engulf one snuggled in one's duvet. The loungers are not by a pool but right by the Pacific Ocean so another unforgettable experience We ate in the restaurant which is quite casual albeit frequented by what appeared very affluent clientele judging by the work of their plastic surgeons. Certainly anyone who enjoys people watching will not be disappointed. We only stayed one night and felt it was an expense that was justified as it allowed us to briefly experience the Malibu lifestyle casual and understated luxury.....but would we spend this much for any longer? Probably not , as such extravagance is not for us, but it delivers a high end yet relaxed beach experience.
