Belmond La Residencia in Mallorca, Spain

Mallorca, Spain is an idyllic island adrift in the Mediterranean, and has long been a popular destination with Europeans. Cradled by the foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains along the island's northwest coast is the spectacular Belmond La Residencia. In addition top its plush rooms and suites, this exquisite hotel hosts an art gallery with a collection of more than 85 works by artists that have all lived and worked nearby. Each unique guest chamber is also a work of art, with some featuring vaulted ceilings and crisp white walls, and others boasting antique furnishings and rough-hewn beams. Spacious suites, including one tucked in a watchtower rumored to have been built by the Templar Knights, are truly magnificent and feature picturesque postcard views.

El Olivo, the hotel's ambient restaurant and former 16th century olive press, features regional fare and international specialties enjoyed by candlelight. Belmond La Residencia has a terrace bar, and also serves a proper afternoon tea complete with traditional scones, clotted cream and dainty finger sandwiches. Recline poolside in a lounge chair and enjoy some refreshing sangria, or head to the tennis courts for an afternoon game. La Residencia Spa features its own indoor pool and menu of carefully chosen treatments that help to relax and soothe. Mallorca is a multi-faceted island, punctuated with rugged hills, shear seaside cliffs, hidden coves, and groves full of plump olives and aromatic citrus. Explore it all while basking in the finest of luxuries at Belmond La Residencia.

I really don't know if it gets any better than this. The property is absolutely gorgeous with varied terraces and pools and gardens. There are wonderful views everywhere. The restaurants are first rate and the buffet breakfast was, well, we still talk about it because the selection of Spanish hams and produce was unbelievably good. The layout of the hotel has a lot of wandering hallways so you never feel like you are in a big resort and there is a lot of very interesting quality art hung throughout. Two tennis courts on site and, after playing for 20 years and hundreds of lessons, I spent one hour with their resident Aussie pro and I found the backhand that had always eluded me.

Gorgeous property with mountain and sea views tucked away in the town of Deia - the setting is spectacular. The Majorcan style rooms are large and feel as if you are in an elegant home. The property has a well equipped gym, multiple pools, an amazing spa, gardens, tennis and dining options. We really enjoyed having relaxing afternoon drinks in the garden.

Beautiful location set in terraces in the Tramunta mountains, super comfortable room, tastefully decorated with every comfort and convenience in both room and bathroom thought about and catered for. Service excellent and discreet, staff could not do enough for you. Just one comment - surprised to find in a room of such a high standard that the in-room tea/coffee facility did not include a Nespresso or similar machine. Instant coffee in this situation just does not cut it! Apart from that, no less than perfect and we shall certainly be back.

This was one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in, the location views food and staff made it a guaranteed staple moving forward. Thank you to all the staff who were fantastic! I cannot wait to see you again.

Shown into a beautiful room at this most unusual hostelry - so light and airy, 4 windows, comfortable seating for 4 in a sitting room off our bedroom. So very comfortable. I call it Room with a View - right ahead the church sitting as on the top of a pinnacle with a cascade of quaint stone built cottages right down to the same level as our hotel. Large wardrobe, slippers and bathrobes provided and plenty of coathangers. Nespresso machine, fridge (mini bar), 13 amp square pin socket. The bathroom a marble room - remember that the letters C and F on the taps do not stand for Cold and Hot! The C, if you speak French, is the Hot and the F Cold. The breakfast is simply superb - everything is there. However, other meals are expensive if only on a B&B basis. There are plenty of eateries in the village and La Residencia has a list of recommended restaurants which they hand out quite happily - and even phone to book a table for you. Taxis can easily be called if the eatery is outside walking distance. The grounds of the hotel are really lovely and very well cared for on a daily basis. The bedrooms in this hotel are in separate buildings up the hill. Lifts are provided abut there are also some stairs to contend with. A newspaper was provided for us daily - the international edition of The Times and Telegraph. Reception desk staff couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful - of course mutual respect and pleasant treatment always work wonders. Deia itself is on a hill so whichever way you walk you will be affected by it. Slow walking pays dividends, allowing one to take in the charming houses and multitudes of pots of interesting plants, many of which we grow as house plants. We had 2 dinners in the hotel and both were enjoyed enormously. Good chefs here. The artist's studio is well worth a visit - Alan Hydes has produced some most attractive and colourful works. A very down to earth Yorkshireman and easy to talk with. He is available for instruction but at a certain price. My advice is to know what you want when booking a lesson. Enjoy this lovely place.
