Mallorca, Spain is an idyllic island adrift in the Mediterranean, and has long been a popular destination with Europeans. Cradled by the foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains along the island's northwest coast is the spectacular Belmond La Residencia. In addition top its plush rooms and suites, this exquisite hotel hosts an art gallery with a collection of more than 85 works by artists that have all lived and worked nearby. Each unique guest chamber is also a work of art, with some featuring vaulted ceilings and crisp white walls, and others boasting antique furnishings and rough-hewn beams. Spacious suites, including one tucked in a watchtower rumored to have been built by the Templar Knights, are truly magnificent and feature picturesque postcard views.

We recently stayed at La Residencia and were truly taken by the charm of Deia—a stunning, peaceful village that perfectly captures the spirit of Mallorca. The hotel itself blends seamlessly into this picturesque setting, offering a relaxed, artsy atmosphere that really sets it apart. From the moment we arrived, the warmth and professionalism of the staff stood out. Every team member we encountered was friendly, accommodating, and genuinely helpful, which made our stay feel special and personal. Clara in particular from concierge was so informative and supportive of our daily experience. Our room was comfortable, beautifully appointed, and full of character. We especially enjoyed the breakfast each morning, which was lovely and well presented. Critical feedback: It’s worth noting that our room was positioned quite close to the breakfast dining area, which occasionally disrupted the early morning peace. The positioning of the windows particularly presented a reduced feel of privacy which overlooked pathways. While we didn’t dine at the hotel’s restaurants for dinner, we did have lunch and found it to be somewhat overpriced given the portion sizes. One small disappointment was at the bar: we ordered an Old Fashioned (our pre-dinner drink of choice) and requested Maker’s Mark, which was listed as a €2 supplement on the menu as a bourbon. We were surprised to be charged €5 extra per drink, particularly when the standard version of the drink is made with a rather low-end Jim Beam, which didn’t quite match the quality we expected from a hotel of this calibre. The spa facilities also felt slightly underwhelming. While the area was pleasant, the steam room in particular could use some improvement to meet the standard set by the rest of the hotel. It wasn’t full of steam. Despite these minor criticisms, La Residencia remains a five-point experience for Trip Advisor in our view—primarily due to the outstanding staff, the beautiful setting, and the unique artistic ambiance that runs throughout the property. With a few thoughtful adjustments, this place could easily go from excellent to exceptional and be a true Five-star establishment. We look forward to returning one day, and hope this feedback is helpful to both management and future guests.

La Residencia perfectly captures Deia’s charm—peaceful, artistic, and beautifully in tune with its surroundings. The staff were outstanding, consistently warm and professional, making our stay feel personal. Our room was stylish and comfortable, and breakfast was excellent, though its proximity to the dining area meant some early noise in our room. Lunch was pleasant but overpriced for small portions. The bar felt overpriced. The spa was relaxing but could use upgrades, particularly the steam room which didn’t work properly. Sauna was small. The massage was poor and one of the worst I’ve had in such a much calibre establishment. Overall, a five-star experience thanks to the setting, staff, and atmosphere. With a few tweaks, it could be truly exceptional but in our view didn’t quite match the world class reputation of the hotel.

We enjoyed a fantastic short break at La Residencia. The hotel and its grounds are stunning, set right in the heart of beautiful Deia, but a peaceful haven away from visitors. We really enjoyed the wonderful walking route from Deia to Soller which starts at the hotel gates - incredible coastal and mountain views. All of the staff are kind, attentive and super efficient so we enjoyed excellent service throughout. Our two meals at Miro and El Olivo were delicious and the breakfast setting and choices are great too. We stayed in the Robert Graves Villa (a short walk from the hotel grounds) which has amazing mountain and sea views and a lovely pool, was fully stocked with fantastic food and drink gave the four of us lots of space in which to. Highly recommended.

We came again to La Residencia (our absolute favourite place on the island) this time especially for "Art of Flavours". We had an amazing experience ! The setting was magical, the food the best of the best from different chefs of the Belmond group but also from the island and Spain. It was a true pleasure and we hope to be back next year!

Not a True Five-Star Hotel – Beautiful Setting, Poor Experience I’ve traveled all over Europe and Asia, staying in many true five-star hotels, and this is not one of them. It’s also not suitable for elderly or mobility-impaired guests. We were in Room 46, directly over the breakfast area—very loud and smoky. Staff said the smell came from burning something to deter bees. They offered to move us, but my friend uses a cane. I’m 55, extremely fit, and stairs don’t bother me, yet the setup still felt inconsiderate and outdated. The windows didn’t seal, the air purifier was filthy, and the water pressure too weak to rinse my hair. “Eco-friendly” shouldn’t mean nonfunctional—these rooms feel 20 years behind in tech and comfort. The spa is coed, which is fine in theory, but when I tried to use the sauna, a man was sitting there completely naked with everything on display. No staff, no signage, and no one to report it to, so I left. I’m not a prude, but that’s not how a coed spa should work—nudity should be limited to single-sex saunas. It left me wondering if staff training or guest guidance simply isn’t a priority here. A beautiful location can’t hide poor design, bad wiring, and weak service. The whole experience felt like “The Emperor’s New Clothes.”
