Mallorca, Spain is an idyllic island adrift in the Mediterranean, and has long been a popular destination with Europeans. Cradled by the foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains along the island's northwest coast is the spectacular Belmond La Residencia. In addition top its plush rooms and suites, this exquisite hotel hosts an art gallery with a collection of more than 85 works by artists that have all lived and worked nearby. Each unique guest chamber is also a work of art, with some featuring vaulted ceilings and crisp white walls, and others boasting antique furnishings and rough-hewn beams. Spacious suites, including one tucked in a watchtower rumored to have been built by the Templar Knights, are truly magnificent and feature picturesque postcard views.

Beautiful hotel in a picturesque mountain setting in Deià. Although it is 5 star, the atmosphere is relaxed and the staff are very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. Lovely pool. Not suitable for those with mobility issues as there are steps everywhere!

I have wanted to stay at this hotel since Richard Branson owned it nearly 20 years ago! Perhaps that meant I had too high expectations which would inevitably lead to disappointment. The arrival process is not very good - a single car entrance and then we were taken to the Miro indoor cafe and told this was reception (when clearly it wasn't). We were left waiting for our drinks when really we wanted to go to the room. We were upgraded which was lovely but frankly I would have been very upset if I had paid the going rate for our room with a terrace as it was quite gloomy. Unfortunately the outdoor terrace had a lot of broken glass on it which had to be thoroughly cleaned and was not a good start to our stay. Our room had a very high bed which sank in the middle and would have been difficult for anyone with mobility issues. The room was noisy as it was near the lift and in the morning there was a loud sound of crashing glass like a recycling area above the terrace. Breakfast was very good although it was a shame that due to poor weather we ate inside. There really isn't much to do in Deia unless you enjoy walking. We had dinner at Cafe Miro which has a lovely terrace overlooking the village - prices are high with a cappuccino at 12 euros and a hot chocolate at 10 euros.

The property was meticulously designed to extend a warm welcome from the moment you step through the entrance. The staff exudes professionalism and warmth with their genuine smiles and attentive service. The pool bar not only offers excellent service but also boasts a menu filled with delectable options. A special mention goes to Pedro, the Brazilian waiter who serves both at the pool bar and during breakfast. His exceptional service truly enhances the experience!

This was our fifth visit to La Residencia and the hotel remains one of our favourite places on Earth. It is in a stunning location in Leia, Northern Mallorca. The hotel boasts three restaurants, a spa, several swimming pools and even an in house hairdresser. The rooms are all different and are full of character and style. You are made to feel as if you have dropped into the lap of luxury as soon as you arrive and your car is whisked away by a complementary valet. There is so much to do and the concierge is very helpful at arranging trips (hold on to your wallet). Beware, nothing is cheap here and the prices for rooms have suffered a significant hike since Covid. We were booked to go in September 2020 and had paid a large deposit which the hotel honoured, to their credit. The prices had escalated significantly and you will now pay just shy of €1000 per night B&B. But it is a fabulous B and a really tasty B! Overall it is difficult to imagine staying anywhere else in Mallorca but we are saving up for our next visit.
