We debated over where to stay in Mallorca. Finally we decided on the St Regis Mardavall and it far exceeded our expectations. The hotel is beautiful, with wonderful water views. Yet what makes the place is the service---its the best of the best.

We have visited this hotel a good number of times ever since the first summer it opened which I think was 2002. It is a beautiful hotel and so good for young families as the kid's pool is really great and there's so much space to run around. The best part is that it is not close to the adult pool so you don't have to worry about bothering adults without children. Small private beach which feels very safe is also good. The spa is sensational and such a treat. The staff can't do enough for you. Breakfast is lovely outside and the rooms are all club class rooms and really are beautifully appointed. It's a very special place.

My wife and I have just spent 4 days at this St. Regis. I am a tough critic having been a CEO in the hotel industry but this is an OUTSTANDING hotel. The location is superb with long distant sea views, the breakfasts are wonderful and my birthday dinner was historic (as Michael Winner would say). We had room 574 and I have already earmarked it for a week next year. Portals is a 10 minute walk away with some very good restaurants and a beautiful marina. Staff at the hotel could not be faulted and, although not inexpensive, it is worth every penny (or should I say euro)!

The Mardavall is located facing the sea - set back about 500 metres from the coastal edge. (there]s not much of a beach there, but excellent views and a nice tiered swimming pool set in nice lawned gardens. It's 5 minutes from Porta Portals and 15 minutes from Palma, it's also bizarrely only 10 minutes from Magaluf! (Though I don't suppose many guests of the hotel will be frequenting the bars and night life of Magaluf). We stayed in January - it was an unusually reasonable price for this luxury hotel. We've stayed in nicer hotels in other countries but in Mallorca this hotel has no real competition. Our room rate included breakfast, free wifi and a Butler!! In fact all the rooms have recently been upgraded to include Butler Service. In fact (probably due to the time of year and the fact the hotel was nearly empty) we were upgraded (apparently 4 levels) to a suite. I'm not sure what our garden view room would have been like, but the suite was fantastic. We never made use of the Butler, he was very pleasant and offered assistance, but I can run my own bath and we didn't need any more fruit or someone to polish my shoes - I've never liked the idea of Butler service, but I'm sure some knobs would love it. Apparently our room would have cost €9800 euros in the high season! Now that's crazy for any hotel let alone in Mallorca. The hotel was very quiet, as was most of Mallorca. January and February are normally very quiet with a lot of hotels bars and restaurants shut. Although a few were still open in Porta Portals, Wellies, Flanagans, Ritzi's, Cappucino, Spoons and a couple of others - so although the port was quiet - not many people around, you could still have nice meal. The breakfast at the Mardavall was excellent, service was fantastic - all as you would expect from such a quality hotel. We had a side room overlooking the children's pool, the room was large, excellent shower, good size TV in bedroom and bathroom, lots of space, but no kettle! So bring your travel kettle if you want a cuppa in the room. Wifi was very good and free. Turn down was very good with free water and chocolates. The room was very warm (the weather during our stay was very cold and very wet!!) so a warm room was a blessing. There are luxury carpets throughout the hotel and it has a very well equipped gym and superb spa with steam and sauna - although the pools could have been a bit hotter, but even so it was a great facility for the hotel during our stormy, wet week. So obviously I would recommend this hotel. We've stayed here 3 times, the first 2 when it had recently opened and was much cheaper. It was a good price this time because it was January. I personally can't justify the price at the height of the season, in the summer months, but many can and do. The Mardavall stands out as one of Mallorca's best hotels and certainly the only one of this quality down in the South West.

The St. Regis is always fabulous no matter which location you choose to visit across the world. I fell in love with the Mardavall in Mallorca, mainly because of the beautiful spa. The spa had a variety of salt pools, salt rooms, cold rooms, saunas, etc. The property, spa, and service was wonderful. I will be returning soon.
