Beautiful hotel

The experience at this hotel was unique. We spent two days to celebrate a birthday and anniversary. While doing the check in Karen gave us an upgrade for the celebrations . We met Leo, the manager and when we went to our room found a sparkling wine bottle and dessert to welcome us. The manager, the recepcionist and all personnel we met were all kind and made us feel welcome. The hotel is beautiful, very nice rooms, bedding, amenities, etc. etc. Recommended 100%

A hedonistic experience.

This is an oasis in the middle of the Rain Forest. The setting is truly spectacular with monkey, toucans and sloths in abundance. The food was spectacular - freshly caught or grown. The drinks were inventive and plentiful. Our bartender/server Elias at the scenic saltwater pool took exquisite care of all of our needs. He excitedly pointed out all of the local wildlife to us.

Makanda dazzles.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This is my second time at Makanda with my husband. We love to go to new places and it’s rare we return. Costa Rica is the exception. Makanda is full of life… we saw more monkeys, birds, and sloths than the nearby national park. But the people who work there make the trip. Exceptionally kind staff who go out of their way to make guests happy… golf cart rides to see sloths, dinner reservations made in town, taxis procured, etc. We were delighted to see many of the same staff on our second visit, which leads me to believe Makanda takes care of its workers. Elias had been a standout on both our stays and we spent hours at his poolside bar chatting about life. Jorge delivered breakfast with Spanish language help. Alex made a NYE dinner reservation possible, Heiner found wildlife. Irinia and Maureen gave perfect massages. 10 stars

Worth the stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Amazing stay with parents and 2 over 18 kids.. the place is stunning. The service overall is incredible. Food very tasty. For the beach- its small but fine. Water amazing. They do have a small bar selection there. For the main pool, its incredible. This is a very mellow and relaxing hotel. Go into town or local beaches if u need more fun. The beach 15 min away just outside Manuel Antonio park is incredible for a real beach. Only suggestion for hotel- needs more shelving in the rooms for clothes For all- expect some good walking up and down to and from rooms Def worth the stay at this hotel to see the local area. Thanks to the team there for planning my transports and activites

My husband and I stayed here and it was absolutely amazing. Often the pictures on the website are an exaggeration of what you get, but that was definitely not the case here. In fact, the pictures really do not do it justice. Breakfast was served in the room a la carte each day and we could sit out on the balcony and just enjoy the privacy and clean air. It was wonderful! The staff was very helpful, and the resort felt very private, with few people staying there. We felt like royalty the entire time.

My wife and I stayed at Makanda and frankly, we fell in love with the place. Its very laid back and beautiful. The suites are huge and lovely. At the end of every day, we'd float around in the swimming pool with a drink in one hand, watching the sun set, with a troop of Howler monkeys in the trees over our heads. Talk about romantic! The area had enough to keep us busy (we did a guided tour of Manuel Antonio Park, a zip line tour and a mangrove boat tour) and there are several top restaurants nearby, including the one at the hotel, which is outside, near the pool. I recommend Makanda by the Sea very highly.
