Hotel Makanda by the Sea

There was nothing about staying at Makanda that wasn't just pretty perfect. The rooms are spacious and relaxing. The pools are incredible; not at all crowded, superb friendly service, gorgeous views, the occasional visit by a monkey or two stealing a few pieces of fruit from the odd unattended drink cup. You don't need to bring anything but yourself. Amenities are available at every turn. The food is fantastic, particularly the just outstanding breakfast and coffee. Beyond relaxing. The spa is wonderful as well. 5 stars, will definitely go again.

Moved to this hotel after a disappointing stay at another locally. The location rooms and staff made this stay unforgettable. A quiet luxury retreat in beautiful surroundings. All staff were attentive friendly and professional, with a special mention to Roger, Jose, Elias and Alexander. Would highly recommend staying at this hotel if you are visiting Manurl Antonio

We just stayed there four nights this month Feb 2026 in room V10 which was fantastic. Service was great, best place we have ever been. Rooms were uniquely decorated unlike any other resort you will ever go to. Food was great. Pools were great along with the service. Beach was fantastic. Make sure to get a golf cart ride down there. Located nicely. Probably should get a rental car as it's a walk to the main street. Monkeys were the entertainment now matter where you are on the resort. One of a kind place. Coming back next year.

Myself and my Husband Jackson just arrived home after an incredible honeymoon at Makanda. We had the BEST time. I could list a million reasons why, such as the food, the scenic views, the animals and overall vibe. But the stand out reason are the people that work there. Shout out to: Jessica (I hope spelling is correct) at Breakfast for being so friendly. Joshua, Alex and Luis always put a smile on our face and made us laugh. Jonathan was the best driving us around and was super sweet. The best best cocktails were made by Eli hes a legend. Shout out to Yoel and Jorge who looked after us so well. And the people on WhatsApp responding to all our questions and needs youre the best. We will miss you all. Pura Vida! X

Makanda was the best hotel we have ever been to! From the atmosphere, service, food, views, location, and amenities - everything was top tier and beautifully done. I would recommend any couple looking to visit Costa Rica stop here. The entire hotel is built into the jungle, which melds luxury with nature in a seamless way. Even the gym offers stunning views of the ocean and rainforest. The staff were attentive, warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. Cannot recommend more highly!
