Roger and Yoel provided us with an outstanding poolside experience from the moment we arrived. The food and drinks were delicious, and the relaxing atmosphere at the pool can’t be beat.

A truly unique and modern hotel. We had a beautiful patio to watch gorgeous sunsets. And in the early mornings we saw monkeys having breakfast. Every detail is covered - even down to the crocs for the pool. The service was exceptional. The staff learned our names immediately and went above and beyond. Braydon was always there to offer a golf cart ride to the beach or another part of the property. If we needed a meal before the kitchen was officially open - Allen made it happen. The rooms are funky and fun. We really enjoyed our time here and wish we could have stayed longer.

Wow! We truly enjoyed our stay at this wonderful hotel. The room was beautiful, with a great view of the ocean. The staff was professional, and very attentive. Our favorite time of the day was the late afternoon happy hour on the pool terrace watching the monkeys, enjoying great drinks and appetizers, and then watching the sunset. There is plenty of wildlife to see on the property - we saw white face, spider, and howler monkeys, a sloth, kinkajou, agouti, frogs (see our "doorman", below), crabs, and different types of birds. For meals, we had breakfast every morning, one lunch at the pool terrace, and two dinners at Arbol (had to go back!). All the food and service for our meals were excellent. The private beach: It's beautiful. And there is a hotel staff person there to help with towels & chairs, and make drinks at a small tiki bar. Note, that is is not a very big beach (particularly at high tide), and it is rocky in many places. But we enjoyed our time there. Overall, the hotel was a perfect blend of luxury and nature!

My husband and I stayed here and it was absolutely amazing. Often the pictures on the website are an exaggeration of what you get, but that was definitely not the case here. In fact, the pictures really do not do it justice. Breakfast was served in the room a la carte each day and we could sit out on the balcony and just enjoy the privacy and clean air. It was wonderful!
The staff was very helpful, and the resort felt very private,
with few people staying there. We felt like royalty the entire time.

My wife and I stayed at Makanda and frankly, we fell in love with the place. Its very laid back and beautiful. The suites are huge and lovely. At the end of every day, we'd float around in the swimming pool with a drink in one hand, watching the sun set, with a troop of Howler monkeys in the trees over our heads. Talk about romantic! The area had enough to keep us busy (we did a guided tour of Manuel Antonio Park, a zip line tour and a mangrove boat tour) and there are several top restaurants nearby, including the one at the hotel, which is outside, near the pool. I recommend Makanda by the Sea very highly.
