When a local rancher named Jack Wilson built six simple cabins along a creek bank almost 60 years ago, he established a lodging reputed for its hospitality, sporting and naturalist pursuits in an idyllic woodland setting. Today, within the spectacular beauty of upper Methow Valley in Washington State, the Freestone Inn at Wilson Ranch keeps its original spirit alive by providing adventurous guests with contemporary comforts in rooms, cabins and lakefront lodges built in the tradition of back-county inns of the past.

First time staying at the Freestone Inn, but it won't be our last. Located a little west of Mazama and right on one of the CC trails...great location. We had a Deluxe King room #12, Upstairs on the end. Great room, spacious with a comfortable bed, fireplace, and deck. There is a small refrig in the room, Microwave downstairs. My wife said the hairdryer was excellent....don't always get a nice hairdryer at hotels/inns/etc....so this was a bonus!!! Nice to have a couch, chairs and ottoman. Check-in was easy and all on-line communication ahead of time was great. And the quiet....a real plus....so quiet everywhere. The lobby is amazing with comfortable chairs, an impressively huge stone fireplace and a lovely view to the lake outside. Front desk was very friendly and helpful. We will be back!!!

This would have been our 7th stay with Freestone. It’s a place we’ve loved coming for years, though for the last few it has been noticeable that they are struggling with staffing just as their website now notes. Yesterday I called about an upcoming stay (14 days from now) and our ability to cancel because my nephew has been in the hospital and yesterday was life flighted to a hospital that specializes in his care. I had called with the same concern a week ago, and was told I still had time to cancel although looking back, I didn’t share that our booking was over NYE, and they didn’t ask. During this part of the conversation, the person I spoke to told me it was a lie that I called because it wasn’t in their notes, and it was a lie that I was told I had more time to consider the reservation. This was bad enough, but it got worse. I told the person I was speaking to that the details around cancellation left me feeling misguided, both as a result of the phone call I’d had previously, and the email I received. While freestone notes that they celebrate specific holidays, and for those 30-day notice is required, Freestone has no facilities open on NYE including restaurants and so it’s surprising that they consider this a holiday they acknowledge. The person I spoke to said she did not care about my confusion and said I’d signed their agreement, which is what she did care about. I was still speaking when she ended the call, and what I was saying is that we’d obviously keep the reservation if our only options were no refund or come. We also considered sending friends. I called back twice and she did not answer, however when my husband called from a different number she answered immediately. He clarified our intentions with her but said he also still wished to speak with a manager. She told him the manager would be in today, Monday 12/18. Last night I received a note that Freestone had cancelled our reservation and was charging us the full stay. My husband called again today and we were told the manager will now not be in until tomorrow. We likely won’t be back in time for our reservation as my nephew will still be in the hospital, and if that comes to be we’d planned to send friends as a gift. I’ve never been treated this way as a paying customer anywhere, and as we’ve recommended so many friends to freestone over the years it’s painful to write this: don’t stay here. They can’t afford staff or to make up for their own mistakes, and you will be out money or the good vibes you came for if you interact with the person I did. Mazama Inn, Basecamp, and Sun Mountain Lodge are other places we’ve stayed and are filled with caring and accurate staff.

Very disappointed as we didn't even get to go because of the fires however we still were charged for a night bc we cancelled within the 14 days. I understand this policy so you don't have ppl randomly cancel but if all the popular hikes are closed per the National Park service AND the air quality map states "heavy smoke covering the area" there should be an exception. Not to mention ALL the restaurants on site are CLOSED until further notice...seems like ppl are clearing out due to the fires. We're already crushed to miss out on seeing this part of WA on our 10 day trip visiting the state, this just adds to the frustration.

I cannot say enough good things about this venue and staff. Jaime is an amazing event facility manager - she went far above and beyond our expectations! The location is beautiful, the facility is lovely and well kept - we loved the cabin/lodge vibe and hardly had to put any effort into wedding decor since it was so naturally beautiful! The Freestone Inn was the PERFECT place for our wedding reception. Our guests loved the accommodations options - cabins, the inn rooms, and several camped next door at Early Winters Campground. We stayed for the weekend and rented out Jacks Hut for a karaoke pool party, which was fantastic and so fun. Jaime and her team were SUPER helpful coordinating all of our events throughout the weekend.

Beautiful building and location just north of Mazama. Our "suite" was really a huge one bedroom apartment with plenty of space to stretch out. It was clean and well maintained. The folks that made our pizzas at the Jack's Hut were super nice and the staff that we encountered were great too. Definitely the nicest place to stay in the area!
