My wife and just stayed at Primland on 9-8-17 thru 9-10-17. First I will say that most of the property is truly beautiful and the golf course looked to be a world class track. As others have stated, there is much to do at Primland. However, our activities were less than world class or five star. We came to Primland to relax and play some tennis and do some mountain biking. We also arranged to have a guided fly fishing expedition, which I have done many times in the past at other Orvis facilities. First, the tennis courts are a huge disappointment. They are much worse than most Middle School Tennis courts (pictures attached) and that's bad enough, but they advertise them as "Soft Surface", which is not true. They were covered with deep cracks, leaves and mold. We called the front desk twice - nothing. We then told them the courts needed to be blown off - nothing. We then found the manager and told him - again no response after multiple complaints. I just grabbed the website description of their tennis facility and it has not been updated despite me telling them it is inaccurate. Second, the fishing excursion plainly states that lunch is included with guide service (website attached), however they refused to remove my lunch charge upon departure. After dropping $2500 in two days, they lost me totally over $42. Either stupid, or poorly trained or both. Third, I am an avid Mountain Biker, understanding that most that visit Primland will not be avid Mountain Bikers, they also go out of their way to describe mountain bike trails for every level from beginner to advanced. This is completely inaccurate and misleading (website still up). This property has so much potential, but is far from 5 star. 5 star resorts do not lie about amenities on their website and go out of their way to honor guests requests. I am writing this in hopes that they will update their website so future guests won't feel as if they have been purposely mislead and that the staff really doesn't care or is not empowered to make a simple change to the website to accurately reflect their amenities.

We spent a weekend here and loved it. We actually live in the Shenandoah Valley and have the mountains all around us but this was like a stepped-up version of home. Staff are incredible. They remembered our names all weekend. We were here to celebrate my birthday and so I received many birthday wishes. We stayed in the Squirrel cabin and it was secluded and cozy (well, it was actually quite large with three bedrooms). Loved the deck and gas fireplace. It was a very peaceful place to stay. We hiked and brought our bikes. We didn't do much cycling because it is, of course, quite hilly and thus a bit more than our level of skill. But the hikes were pleasant and easy. We saw loads of wildlife. Deer, turkeys, songbirds. We ate one dinner at the restaurant and it was wonderful. Incredible wine selection and amazing food. They easily accommodated me as a vegetarian. Then the fire pit outside was a nice place to relax after dinner. I had a massage in the spa which was wonderful. We were hoping for the telescope experience but it was too cloudy both nights we were there. But that just means we will have to return!

We stayed a few days the first week of August. We enjoyed our stay, the lodge and grounds are lovely. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his golf round. I have rated Primland with 4 "stars", I was disappointed that I was unable to book two spa appointments for my two daughters. There weren't any available times during our stay. Also, we weren't able to secure a spot for the telescope viewing.

When we found this gem in 2014 it was exceptional. Sadly, Primland is reaching mainstream status and it's not able to keep up. We stayed at the lodge in a suite and we were not impressed. The sofa sinks in. The television in the living area was lacking audio. Half of the lights in the half bath were out. In the master bathroom the mirror behind the door was dirty and even though we were in the same suite for three nights the mirror was never cleaned. On a positive note, the room was spacious. Multi touch lights and shades and quiet for sleeping. Valet top notch. Justin from concierge exceptional. Really enjoyed the fire pit at night and complimentary s'mores. Get out and enjoy the trails plenty of wild life to see. There's a small gym, an indoor pool and jacuzzi. Not to be missed, the chefs table. That is an amazing experience. Accolades Chef Robert along with his team Stetson and Karl the sommelier. The lamb ravioli and duck superb!!! Everyone is very friendly and aim to please. I really hope the maintenance department get their act together. At present this area needs attention. It would be a shame if they dropped the ball given the fact that this property is quite special. I hope they are listening.
