Reviews for Madison Hotel Memphis
The hotel is being renovated so no restaurant or bar was available. We were lucky enough to get an upgrade to a suite due to that as we were not informed before making a reservation. It is a nice, more modern hotel in an old building. Nice separate tub and shower but the bed was a bit hard. Valet parking for $29. We would stay again once renovations were completed.

Hotel is being renovated. Work being done in day time only however being done on weekends also. Redone room is very nice, quiet. Close to everything: food, entertainment, etc. Parking is expensive. Great service.

This hotel has been beautifully remodeled in an older building. An excellent roof top provides great views of the mississippi river. The gym in the basement is sufficient with a novelty vault door. I was fortunate to get an upgrade and the lounge was separate to the bedroom. It was luxurious and the bathroom was 5 star in design. The only reason the rating is not 5 out of 5 is because the rubbish bin trucks collect about 3 times a week. I was there a week and kept getting woken up in the early hours of the morning by typical metal on metal crashing and bottles smashing as the trucks loaded in the alley below my room. In the morning there were free apples in reception and a granola bar which was an unexpected surprise. There are no guest laundry machines so I had to travel about 30mins away on a bus to the nearest coin operated laundry (because I refuse to pay expensive hotel rates). It seemed to be easy to catch the buses everywhere to the bbq places (which is why I was here). Only once was I verbally abused by a homeless person and felt unsafe. If I were to come back for another BBQ tour of this city I would stay here.

I stayed here for 3 nights in March and would rate this hotel as average. First, the unimpressive aspects. Some reviews mention cleanliness and I agree, there can be improvement. The sheets were dirty and as you can see in the picture, had some green stains on them. I simply chose to sleep on the other side of the bed and not think of what green substance was there. The closet was had thick layers of dust and shower walls were not as clean either. The pros: The front desk employees were always courteous. The room does have a great shower head, with great amenities. Although there are ongoing renovations to the restaurant, the hotel did notify me ahead of time if this, so I just walked over to the Peabody Hotel for breakfast. If in Memphis again, I probably would try to stay at the Peabody.

Not sure what is up the noses of other reviewers, and I admit we were disappointed with late notice that the food outlets at the Madison were closed. That said, we had a great room and a really pleasant stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, including providing us with a requested room after we expressed some concern about the lack of access to food outlets on site. The hotel is well located in Memphis. Even thought the rooftop bar is closed, go up to the rooftop at sunset for a great view of the Mississippi River.
