Reviews for The Peabody Memphis

Great location

My friend and I visited Memphis for a long weekend on 3rd April and chose The Peabody for its location and the duck parade. We were surprised and disappointed that the fountain was not full of water and ducks, given this is a selling point and tourist attraction. Even more surprised that it took a further 2 days to repair! We queued for an hour to watch the duck parade which was very cute, but would have been delighted to have a special area reserved for hotel guests to save the long tedious wait and bad back/knee issues. A suggestion going forwards. The bathroom in our room was tiny and we were unable to shut the door each time we showered due to lack of space. Why in 2024 are shower curtains still a thing?? Who uses a bath in 2024? A walk-in shower unit would be much better use of the small space. Having pointed out improvements that could be made, we had a great time in the hotel. The bed was comfortable, staff at reception and concierge were fantastic. We requested a coffee machine for our room as the queue in the morning in the cafe was slow and they ran out each time. The cocktails were tasty and service was quick by the pink ladies. To summarise, the staff were brilliant and made the niggles become less important. The location is very central and I would stay again if I visited Memphis.

Exquisite

This is one of the most beautiful luxurious hotels I’ve ever stayed in. The rooms are huge, beds are so comfortable and inviting that if you didn’t have places to see and do you would lay in all day. The architecture is amazing and the march of the ducks is extremely cute….” As is the duck master” 😉 If you want class then this hotel is for you

Great place. The parking charges are shambolic

Well situated. Friendly staff. Very well presented establishment. A 3 hour long ‘ happy hour’ from 16:00-1900 is great value. Restaurant was better quality food and choice than most we have experienced in our 2 week stay in the states., if a little more pricey, but we were happy. My only problem was the parking fees. We used our car during our stay. Therefore , we had to pay each day to get out of the car park using the ticket issued as we entered the car park. Just under $30/24hrperiod. On checking out . The lady who booked our stay was given a bill of additional costs by the hotel. Drinks, taxes ( the Americans love to tax) and parking charges. The parking charges were for 2 days at $29.86 / day. Which she promptly paid. My problem is, the hotel issued us with the parking charge bill for 2 days which we paid upon checkout. But we still had to pay again to leave the car park after checkout. Now we are getting refunded, but this seems a backward/ overly complicated system / barefaced scam.

Haunted?

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Worst night of sleep I’ve had in a while, because of some very weird noises which have me rethinking if I believe in ghosts. Between 2-4am, there was sounds of someone walking on a creaking floor came from the corner of our room. Every time I’d check, nothing was there, sounds would stop, I’d start to fall asleep and it would happen again. The floor does not creak in the when we step on it, so it was such an odd sound, very loud. I turned on the a/c fan to drown it out and tried to ignore it, as I was falling asleep I had a distinct feeling of a hand grabbing my leg. As daylight came on the noises stopped happening. Looking this up online, we found a mention that the hotel is haunted, especially the eleventh floor. We were room 1128. I’m not a ghost chaser and would have much preferred a good night sleep, especially because the beds were comfortable and the room was clean. Another irksome thing was the pool hours were inconsistent, the online hotel guide stated open to 10pm. When we went down at 9pm we were turned away, and told it had just closed at 9 and he wasn’t sure why they don’t update the guide.

Needs more care

We stayed at the Peabody as part of Viking cruises trip. When you first enter, you see the vast lobby. Lobby has lots of sections with sofas, chairs, and tables. Piano music adds ambience. In the center is the famous fountain where the ducks swim. Checkin was quick. Our room on 5th floor was small, but adequate. Bathroom was big with a walk-in shower. We were told that the bed was queen. However, it was small. I have a queen bed at home which is much wider than the hotel bed. I think it was just a double. Ask for a room with king or 2 doubles. Furniture was ok. 2 comfortable chairs, desk, and tv. Carpet was worn and floor was bumpy. For 2 nights, it was ok. Elevators were a real problem. Service was very slow. Often waited a long time for an elevator. Off the lobby are various shops, bars, and restaurants. There were several places where you had to walk up stairs. Certainly not ADA accessible. Perhaps, the hotel was exempt since it was historic. I found it annoying. We got coffee at the deli. It free for hotel guests until 10:30 am. Also, got sandwiches. Sandwich choices are limited. For breakfast, Viking guests ate in a separate room with a very small buffet. It was terrible. The first morning we went a bit late. Tables had dirty dishes on it. We had to move them aside to sit down. Food was picked over. What we had wasn’t good. Coffee was cold. Servers didn’t seem to care. Second day, servers were removing dirty dishes as people left. Food offerings were still poor. Location was strange. There were lots of places to eat, but no places to buy toiletries. Usually when I travel, I buy items like hairspray in a drugstore. In most cities, you can find a convenience store close by. Nothing near this hotel. While I appreciate charm of historic venues, this hotel was past being charming. It is old. It needs more care. It could be really beautiful.
