Reviews for Royal Palm South Beach Miami
This hotel is a great option with great value for South Beach. We only stayed one night before moving to another hotel with a bigger group. The rooms are sizable, with a sitting area in addition to the bedroom and bathroom. The rooms were clean but a little cold- tile floors, white walls, and a modern European aesthetic. We didn’t use any amenities but you get bike rental free with your room. The location is fantastic- central to great restaurants in SOBE. I highly recommend getting a table at Byblos for dinner one night. The restaurant entrance in outside on the street just south of the hotel driveway. We had a lot of great meals during our trip and Byblos was one of my favorite. They also have an excellent cocktail program. You have to go since it’s right there!

I recently wrote a letter to the manager about what a disappointing experience we had. Here are the main issues we had: 1) 2 hours after ordering food at the beach; it was not received; 2) after deciding to order at the pool instead, we were told the kitchen was backed up and it would be over an hour [which is now 3 hours] before we would get food; 3) I asked for wine glasses and dog bowls sent to the room - it took two more requests before they arrived; 4) the elevators were constantly broken and we were on the 8th floor; 5) my daughters were never able to get a tv remote for their room and neither room had room service menus; 6) the bartender knew nothing about the mixology class and couldn’t remember the drink recipe and ingredients when it was our turn to make the drink [pretty certain he was high - pupils completely dilated]; and the worst of all: 7) when our room was cleaned, they took all the dirty towels and didn’t leave clean ones. I called down to the front desk TWICE and spoke to an attendant on our floor, yet still no towels. Instead, I went to the pool and got us beach towels so we could shower. Motel 6 can even get that right. These events combined to make for a pretty rotten hotel stay. You may save some $ by staying here (as compared to the lovely Loew's next door), but don't do it!

With spg and Marriot merged needless to say we have a lot of good options. What confirmed our upcoming stay with Royal Palm was a phone call in to the property. I spoke Nicole on the phone who was the epitome professionalism with accommodating hospitality being second to none. She listened to my families stay needs uninterrupted and she then found a way to accommodate us all. All I can say is wow, this is what customer service is all about! If the property is run with such exemplary personal then the stay will surely be an amazing 5 star experience. I'll update this review with more details after the stay and I am hoping and am confident it will remain this positive :-)

We've stayed at a few Tribute properties and were delighted when they could fit us in last minute over Art Basel. The property has a wonderful beach area and two different pools. Additionally, the staff was exceptionally kind and the room was very clean. We had a wonderful time at the hotel and enjoyed every moment we stayed there.

Let me start with the good. The Royal Palms is right on South Beach Miami. The staff is very good from the valets to the front desk to the housekeeping staff. The rooms are clean and I am a huge fan of hard surface flooring in guest rooms, which the Royal Palms has. Room service food was good overall, on-time, and delivered by friendly servers. Now the not so good. The physical building is old and smells of mold and/or mildew throughout. From the minute I walked into the lobby, I smelled it. It also was in both rooms I occupied in separate towers (see below), so I have to assume it permeates the entire hotel. It wasn't a smell that you got used to over time. I woke up smelling it every morning. It was not horrendous but it was not acceptable to me. I understand that a beachside location can be challenging, but other hotels manage it just fine. Royal Palms -- you need to rectify this. Next, we arrived late after a flight delay. My office booked this hotel and booked a classic room. It was minuscule. The bathroom was normal size, but the room was tiny. There was a bed with nightstands, a dresser, and a freestanding minibar unit. That's it. No chair, no desk or table of any kind. I could sit on the bed or on the floor -- those were my two choices. The lighting was also limited. I called down to the front desk and was assisted by a great guest services rep, but no other rooms were available. Understandable. I asked about switching the next day and she kindly upgraded me to an apartment suite, arranged to have my luggage transferred all at no additional fee. Much appreciated. The Apartment suite was much larger but the layout was odd and the "modern" decor felt old and dated. The mildew/mold smell was present again but at least this room had a slider and step out patio (which was nice!) so I could get some air in. Details were also missing from small stains on bedding and towels, to very old looking tile and grout in the shower. Lighting was also less than stellar and furnishings uncomfortable. Entry doors in both rooms were warped so they did not fit into the door frame completely. While the doors locked fine, it was just something I've never seen before. Overall, this hotel tries through its staff but it isn't up to what I consider Starwood quality. I gave it three stars for its staff and because I felt ok finishing the stay. I won't be back for the reasons above. Which brings me to my last point -- I wish the major brands that are known for their standards, like SPG, would stop with the "Tribute Portfolio" or Hilton's Curio Collection". The seem like a money grab to get marketing fees, while not enforcing brand standards. Stop. It is diminishing the brand.
