SLS Hotel South Beach in Miami Beach, Florida
Collins Avenue newcomer SLS Hotel South Beach tops Miami’s “It List” for its celeb-studded restaurants and nightlife, the two elements that define the SLS brand. José Andres makes his Miami debut with The Bazaar, and acclaimed sushi chef Katsua Uechi brings a second high-profile restaurant to the mix. Cabanas at the beachfront club Hyde Beach are almost as sultry as the rooms – designer Philippe Starck modeled them like a modern-day boudoir of Louis XV’s mistress, with French furniture and mirrored ceilings.
The Atlantic Ocean glitters right out your window, but you might have a tough time deciding whether to leave your sumptuous room. Order room service with champagne for breakfast. Don a Valentino swimsuit and saunter through the halls of this former Art Deco palace. Claim a poolside lounge chair and order a Burning Mango cocktail made with Grey Goose L’Orange vodka, Serrano pepper and mango juice.

Reviews for SLS Hotel South Beach
I know Sobe well, and although didn't make the reservation, and I usually stay at my beloved Delano, I recently had opportunity for a quick whirlwind visit to one of my favorite destinations in mainland U.S. I did not choose this reservation, and with a friend...... and as I had been informed the initial impression was flashy and upscale, it quickly became apparent that it is pretty much a party hotel. I'm no prude, but I do need proper sleep, and despite assurances to the contrary, there was no escaping the deep bas beat and crowd noise. I realize that all the young folks I spoke with were very very happy with everything there, so we may well have been in the minority with our opinions that particular weekend. Good meals, and a lovely location on South beach.

Epic pool party on a Sunday in Miami, book in advance! I am still speechless when it comes to our experience at SLS. Please know that this weekly pool party books up months in advance so if you are going to Miami and want to go to this book it ASAP here. SLS took a few tips from the Las Vegas pool party model and blew it out of the water literally, we spent eight hours there in total and each one was different and unexpected. The crowd was diverse but not stuffy, the staff were friendly and attentive and the venue was just breathtaking and intimate. They have mastered the flow of this event and have good control over the crowd which we really appreciated.

My girlfriend and I came to the beach on a rare correlating day off for a day of leisure and relaxation. Besides the water being a tad cold, everything about the beach was perfect; from the cleanliness to the staff. Jeremiah took great care of us and constantly checked on us to make sure we were alright!

SLS is a trendy spot...I did like that they upgraded my friend and I to an ocean view room but there were a lot of misses. If staying with friends, make sure to book a room with two beds. I had a two bedroom room but other friends who stayed had decided to book a one bedroom room. Laughable !! The bathroom was the size of a public bathroom stall and the room itself was a small closet. Don’t stay here if you’re super claustrophobic! The positive is that it’s walking distance to ocean drive. The hotel is on the beach. You get two beach chairs but if you want an umbrella its an extra $20. The first day at the beach they only had a few people working. They provided us with ice buckets to keep our drinks cold that we brought with us. We also ordered the wagyu cheese burger with the truffle fries. It was pretty good but cold. The next day they had more people working but wouldn’t provide ice buckets and stated they were short on ice. What? How does a hotel in Miami have a shortage of ice? The issue here is that their beach staff has to go back to the hotel to pick food orders, drinks, etc. Its just an unorganized mess. We finally were able to get our hands on an ice bucket by going to the main hotel ourselves. The ice was dirty, gross. The pool was warm but they were having an issue with some type of flies. They were spraying all over, at the beach too. Overall, the stay was ok but not for the price.

Bottom Line: there are so many great hotels at this same price within 400 meters that I dont understand why people would come here. As every SLS in the world, the hotel is beautifully decorated...BUT this does not compensate the continuous bad experience that one can have in just 48hs at the SLS. Checkin was bad. Slow and the receptionist treated us very bad (really bad). It was like if we were bothering her from having the chance to flirt with other more “fashion” people. Long story to share here...and the manager is already aware of it. I hope they will do something to improve the experience. Rooms remind me of those hotels in NY that initially were just house appartment and got rebuilt to become a hotel....and the size of the rooms end up super small. Kinda like traveling in coach where maximization of revenues are the target. The bathroom? OMG....really really small,...not at all like the look at the website pictures (we had the oceanview one). No descent space for cloths, etc. If you are planning to go just for a day, might be ok...not for more. Service was kinda super bad or super good depending on the person. And...processes seem not to be bulletproof: ie: one night courtesy waters were brought, other day did not. Ie2: we asked for a wake up call to get our flight...and we got it 10 min after the requested time. Another detail that shows how the DNA of the hotel is: there is a daily mandatory charge of 40usd (i already knew it) that is for those things like “beach stuff”, courtesy waters, etc. Apart from the idea that this should be included in the hotel rate (charge more!!!) ...what got me sad (Makes me sad when a business just tries to get every dollar out of you and are not transparent! Just charge more the room and avoid this things!!) ...i went with my wife to the beach with the idea of staying there just 20-30 min as we are not beach lovers. We arrived there and were polite offered 2 beach chairs. Until here perfect...but then were told that the umbrella had an additional 20usd charge. Come on... charging for umbrellas in miami beach as if it were optional with how the sun kills you there and even when chatging already a fee for this type of things.... Definitely showing how the DNA of the property is. So...bottom line...even staying less than 48hs, this hotel can really get you on a not vacation mood... With so many options around it, pick another!!!! Btw: i loved the sls in LA.
