Mandarin Oriental, Miami in Miami, Florida

There's an unmistakable air of Magic City in the five-star design of Mandarin Oriental Miami. Palm-shaded cabanas are just as glamorous as they are in South Beach, but with the added allure of seclusion granted by a private beach club on tony Brickell Key. Three floors of the resort are dedicated to Mandarin Oriental’s signature spa treatments, and it’s also home to the only North American location of Chinese luxury brand Shanghai Tang.

Pity the souls arriving to work in the skyscrapers across the water – your office is a hammock, and an infinity-edge swimming pool is just a few strides away. Order a pre-lunch mojito. In the afternoon, strut down boutique-lined Lincoln Road like it's your runway. Listen to Cuban jazz in the balmy night air as neon lights glint off Biscayne Bay.

Is it a great hotel? No. Is it a decent hotel? Yes. Is it nicer than the (awful and badly maintained) JW Marriott Marquis and so-so Beaux Art hotel? Yes. Are there better choices in the neighborhood? Sadly, no. The location on a little island makes it quieter and nicer than the other hotels. Shops and offices are in walking distance. The rooms are spacious with balconies and decently maintained. The food in the restaurants is very nice. The pool is a bit disappointing. The meeting rooms and restaurants are freezing (!) - even by Miami standards. The AC is on a standard setting for outside temperatures of 30 C. When it is “cold” outside (say 15-18 C), the AC will cool down the hotel to fridge temperature. There was condensation on the windows on the inside (meaning it was warmer outside). A sweater is definitely not enough. If you are from Europe, bring a puffer coat.

Excellent location! Amazing staff! Delicious restaurant! Relaxing spa! Professional and attentive people assisting you for all your guest needs. The lobby bar has a fun happy hour. Short drive from the airport and close to the beaches and nightlife.

Great hotel; beautifully appointed room; great amenities; fantastic location; wonderful restaurant (La Mar) on premises. Staff is very friendly and courteous. My balcony looked over the strait to Brickell basking in afternoon glow. Later that night the lights of Brickell made the scenery even more spectacular.

Stayed in a three bedroom suite, incredible. Each room was essentially a separate room all connected to a central living room. Located on a small man made island, you can go for a walk on a path which circles the entire island, incredible views. Staff were exceptional, service was excellent. Many restaurants located a short walk away. Highly recommended.

We stayed at Mandarin Oriental Miami for four days. The pool area is like a kindergarten and at our first day small kids pooped in the pool two times, so that the pool had to be closed. The next day we saw another kid peeing in the pool. After that we didn´t want to be in the pool area anymore. This hotel is perfect for families with small kids, but couples and business people should choose another hotel. The hotel management should at least require that small kids should have waterproof diapers when using the pool. The next time we visit Miami we will not stay at Mandarin Oriental.
