Mandarin Oriental, Miami in Miami, Florida

There's an unmistakable air of Magic City in the five-star design of Mandarin Oriental Miami. Palm-shaded cabanas are just as glamorous as they are in South Beach, but with the added allure of seclusion granted by a private beach club on tony Brickell Key. Three floors of the resort are dedicated to Mandarin Oriental’s signature spa treatments, and it’s also home to the only North American location of Chinese luxury brand Shanghai Tang.

Pity the souls arriving to work in the skyscrapers across the water – your office is a hammock, and an infinity-edge swimming pool is just a few strides away. Order a pre-lunch mojito. In the afternoon, strut down boutique-lined Lincoln Road like it's your runway. Listen to Cuban jazz in the balmy night air as neon lights glint off Biscayne Bay.

This is the second time staying in the Hotel for my wife and I. We brought our children for this trip. We stayed in one of the Dynasty Suites with a city view. My expectations for a hotel of this cost are high. I encountered the following issue with Mandarin Oriental. 1st: The floors were dirty. All of the hard wood were very nasty. Feet stick to the floor nasty. Also the rug in the sitting room was stained from wear and tear. I requested with the front desk to have the floors and carpets cleaned while my family and I were out the next day. 2nd: The following day we came back to floors in the same condition. (SEE PHOTO) I would expect more out of a Holiday Inn. 3rd: The pool wait staff service was nonexistent. Forgotten drinks, two times and this is after having to get up and pace the order myself at the bar. This is because they would not come to provide service at the chair. 4th: Dinner at AZUL $48 for Scallops that were so salty we could not eat them. One bright spot the wait staff was excellent at the restaurant. 5th: Simple questions to the concierge were met with a snooty look and one word answers. I know i'm not asking too much from a hotel that prides itself on service and for the price I damn well received it. Unfortunately I just didnt. Two thumbs down for this experience.

Attended a company meeting at the Mandarin Oriental this week for over 100 colleagues from the US and around the world. The hotel performed flawlessly with exceptional accommodations, terrific food and a level of service one would expect of a hotel the Mandarin's stature - impeccable. However, the service of the hotel and its team, led by Alex in this case, rose to heroic status in my mind when they went to unbelievable and truly unexpected lengths to help recover a diamond pendant lost on a beach. The hotel literally sifted the beach twice and leveraged personal contacts to obtain extra sensitive metal detectors to recover an heirloom with tremendous emotional value. Cannot thank the team enough nor sing the praises of the entire Mandarin Oriental Miami team.

I found that I needed to spend two nights in Maimi for business and selected the Mandarin. This is my 6th visit. The location is ideal, private, and safe. The staff are efficient, friendly, and great at their jobs. I did book a special dinner for clients at their main resturant and we were able to be seated outdoors, a true delight having escaped the snows of Boston.

We are fans. Of Mandarin Oriental in general and of this gem in particular, that's why over the years we've managed to stay a few times. Every detail is carefully taken care of: the room is always to die for with heavenly beds and linens and silky towels. The amenities have changes with time and are always spot on, and this time was no different. The breakfast is truly remarkable and so is everything else, truly. Even when they make a mistake, like they did upon our arrival, they manage to get out of it nicely. strongly recommended stay to pamper yourself in busy Miami.
