Trump National Doral Miami in Miami, Florida

The crown jewels of Trump National Doral Miami are its golf courses, 90 holes of PGA-worthy turf that include The Blue Monster, Greg Norman’s Great White and Raymond Floyd’s gold course. Trump acquired the Doral property in 2012 and has since given it a $250 million facelift. Rooms were renovated in a warm neutral palette with mahogany and gold leaf Spanish Revival details, and luxe cabanas flank the new Royal Palm Pool. There are 800 acres and almost as many rooms at Trump National Doral, making the resort a city in itself.

Pick up a croissant and coffee at the French-style pastry shop. Take a morning stroll through acres of manicured grounds and bask in the Florida sun. Indulge in a hydrating cocoon spa treatment, which starts with olive grain exfoliation and ends with a shea butter wrap. Share a porterhouse for two and a fine bottle of Napa cabernet.

What immediately makes this hotel stand out is that it is not a high-rise hotel but a property where all the rooms are in small villas named after famous golfers. Waking up on the first morning in Florida during Christmas Break wearing shorts and a t-shirt while the rest of the Northeast is freezing and enjoying the beautiful property won me over immediately. Breakfast is an amazing plentiful buffet. Other than the breakfast buffet at the Eau Palm Beach in Manalapan, probably the nicest, tastiest and most appealing. Pool area has plenty of chairs, tables and umbrellas and the staff is more than accommodating. Cabanas for rent as well. Had lunch at the Palm Grill each day and although they were a little overwhelmed one day, the food and service was excellent. There are 2 pools as well as a waterside for the kids (or adults, too) located in-between the two pools A truly luxurious experience with a staff that is friendly and accommodating without being stuffy. Trump National Doral is a golf resort. I am not a golfer but I was still sad upon checking out after 4 nights here but will without a doubt be returning with my 9 year old later this year.

I would say overall a poor experience considering the price fell far short on expectations. As for the coordination and quality of the events (national sales meeting and a New Year's Eve celebration) they were OK. My concerns were in regards to the hotel design and responsiveness of the staff. It doesn't help that I was at TheBreakers the week before so I was making some comparisons but I'll try to keep it fair. Check-in was a bit of a disaster, both times the lines have been out the front door into the outer steps. It seems the front desk just can't work efficiently. I understand most check-in times are 3-4pm but to be honest, we all try to early check-in right?...well not here. On both occasions we literally were called to check-in at 4pm due to rooms not being ready. So don't get here early if you don't intend on spending some good money on the grounds waiting for your room. Same goes for check-out....lines lines lines. Layout of the hotel is hit or miss depending on which room you get - mine was a miss. The villas are separate from the main building and can be far apart so be prepared to walk for 20 minutes if you want to get back and forth from the amenities. If you rented a gold cart then you're set, otherwise, bring sneakers! Should you decide to self park, arm yourself with a ton of patience. The lot is very far away and you need to shuttle back and forth. Problem is the shuttles don't come around often enough so there's a lot of waiting involved. Morning checkout is the worst so your shuttle could be 30-50 minutes wait such as in our case. The hotel itself is nice but not grand. It has some areas to walk around but it's very basic in terms of overall "look". I guess you can say it's dated and bland. I didn't expect this from a Trump resort. It's a good location if you want to move around town, and Doral has many dining and entertainment options so that's a plus. As I overall poor experience, but don't set the bar too high, it's really a golf/spa membership style resort so that's what they cater too. If you want luxurious and detailed customer experience for about the same money, I would probably try the Biltmore, Mandarin, or the Ritz. Good luck!

Absolutely a top quality 5-star resort inside and out. The beautiful, shimmering resort retreat is bedecked with stunningly chandeliers throughout the gracious public spaces with large windows facing the greens, well-placed foliage, and gardens. Inviting pools are heated and restful. Impeccable rooms with ever-so-comfortable beds have private balconies with large sliding glass doors to permit natural light and fresh air to splash into the room. Four golf courses including the Big Blue Monster make for golf nirvana matched with a luxurious spa for those off hours Ali g with restaurants, and the rich decor studded bar. Every staff member encountered was upbeat, proactive, conversational and professional. There are three staff to mention who went beyond the norm, Christina, Yohania and Guillermo. Thank you for a five star experience!
